  1. Hi all, Cherry Tree have revised their proposal: Change of use of the upper floors of The Cherry Tree Public House from ancillary staff accommodation (Class A4 Use) to create a 26 bed bunk house hostel (Sui Generis - Visitor Accommodation) across four rooms plus ancillary accommodation for the general manager (Class A4) So less beds and onsite staff - which is better. My only concern is that late night access is round the back of the pub via an outside stairwell which backs onto a very residential area which may be an issue for noise disturbance. Here is the link to the new plans: https://planning.southwark.gov.uk/online-applications/simpleSearchResults.do?action=firstPage
  2. So, I have an amazing recommendation but they are not in East Dulwich. I went to a tailor in Richmond called fast stitch. http://www.fast-stitch.co.uk This was to get my wedding dress altered - obviously a big deal! The woman seamstress was amazing, and suggested changes I didn't even think of. And it only cost me ?60 for lots of alterations - I couldn't recommend them more and will only ever go back there (I got the recommendation from a friend who live in Richmond). Worth the journey.
  3. Sorry accidentally posted this twice and don't know how to delete!
  4. Hi there, I need some odd jobs doing, including fixing some water damaged plaster (small patch, don't want to have to remove plasterboard just cover up damage), re-sealing the bath, removing and replacing a glass shower screen and painting of the bathroom. Anyone who can help?? Thanks in advance

  6. Does anyone know what the outcome of this was... I can't find anything online and wasn't notified of anything? Thanks!
  7. I have corresponded with the Planning Committee and they will take objections by email - please get them in by 3pm. Email: [email protected] [email protected]
  8. Goldilocks, I have asked the planning committee to defer the decision as insufficient notice has been given for objectors to write in. I encourage you to write a letter as I am doing which will be considered during the application.
  9. Is anyone who made an objection to this proposal planning on attending the committee meeting? The more people objecting this proposal who attend the meeting the more likely we are to get the right outcome.
  10. Hi James, I made an objection to this and only received the letter about the planning committee meeting yesterday. I cannot intend in person and had hoped to write my objection in a letter, however apparently they require at least 2 working days notice... which is impossible as I only received the letter yesterday and the committee is tomorrow! Can we do anything about this? Thanks!
  11. So an update on this... The planning officer is going to recommend that the Hostel application be approved...! The next step is for council officers to sign this off, so we will see what happens next. Apparently once signed off there is nothing local residents can do. Sigh...
  12. Hi Renata, Besant Place SE228DA trees need collecting. Thanks
  13. Hi James, Is this an issue, particularly around crime, that you can highlight to the local planning council? Thanks James Barber Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It sounds like a crime disaster area waiting to > happen. > Our minimal local Police effort will be sucked > into this one proposed new establishment if > built. > > The current pub is already disturbing local > residents - compounding it with 47 people living > in dormitories isn't going to make that any better > and quite likely significantly worse.
  14. I actually find this really shocking, as a research employee of king's I aways held it in the highest regards (particularly for my field, mental health), but to be put on special measures is a serious issue. It makes me afraid for the future.
  15. ok so I've done a pre-order with mons... 3 cheeses and some crackers, min 250g, ?40, amazing cheese but my gosh nearly fell to the floor with the price...
  16. popcorn is the most over priced food item ever .... as a foodie I refuse to pay for something I can make for 50p at home!
  17. oooh good question, having been with my husband for 6 years we have never actually seen each other on xmas and were discussing what to do locally on xmas eve...

Rendelharris, Let us, in the spirit of Christmas and trying to be neighbourly in a small community respectfully agree to disagree. Merry Christmas and I would encourage you to attend the Cherry Tree more so your naturally authoritative schoolmasterly demeanour makes everyone behave!

You detail that you have been in the pub maybe 30 times at closing time over the course of the year? So the other 93% of days (335 days of the year) when you are not there, how do you know what the situation is with noise and not closing the garden. I don't feel this is a representative example?

I think the comments - publicly available online via the planning application, clearly detail the issues that the local residents have. I'm not sure what more information you need?

No not at all, (believe it or not I feel they are an important part of the community). My issues are only around the noise that is caused which would be considered as 'statutory nuisance'. I don't want to get into a detailed, critical debate as this is a heated topic that always comes up on the forum. All I want is for the pub and its neighbours to all get along!
  23. Penguin68 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > No one is asking for the pub to be closed - just > for it to be respectful towards its neighbours. > > One possible outcome of a licence review is that > it is withdrawn. So then perhaps if the pub made an effort to be respectful towards its neighbours then this wouldn't be an outcome.

Then we can finally get some > peace and quiet around here. No one is asking for the pub to be closed - just for it to be respectful towards its neighbours. Neither the pub nor its neighbours have priority to the area - why can't we just have a considerate attitude towards one another? If you live by the pub your experience will be very different than if you are a semi-regular visitor. Rendelharris - unless you live by the pub, how would you know that the pub always closes its garden on time or that they don't cause a nuisance?

Also I was wondering if we could potentially ask for a licence review for the pub - looking at the seriously negative comments on the planning application: Comment submitted date: Tue 12 Dec 2017 As a local resident I object to this proposal on grounds of the increase in drunken anti social behaviour and noise nuisance that would result from allowing up to 47 men to bunk up in 9 person and 12 person rooms over a pub, across the road from a football club. I further object on grounds that such accommodation density is exploitative . Comment submitted date: Tue 12 Dec 2017 I do not agree with this application as it may cause undue disturbances to neighbours. The applicant can also not guarantee that its development will be ?up market? or attract less desireable occupants. Comment submitted date: Tue 12 Dec 2017 I am a neighbour of the Cherry Tree. It does often result in late night noise outside of my home. We suffer from people using the Cherry Tree/nearby William Hill and gathering at Vale End at closing time , sometimes even urinating on our doorstep. A development of this size would be likely to increase these disturbances and make life for local residents more difficult. Comment submitted date: Tue 12 Dec 2017 1 Hostel accommodation not appropriate for locating in a residential area. Whilst the pub is on the main road - it is surrounded on all sides by residential areas. The change from a pub that closes mostly around 11pm, to a hostel with people arriving at all hours is a hugely significant change. The pubs poor sound insulation already means noise is heard a significant distance away, therefore increasing noise in an area could be detrimental to neighbours. 2. This type of accommodation is likely to attract large single sex groups (such as stag and hen nights) with associated higher noise levels, disturbing local residents at antisocial hours. The pub would not be able to control the noise of people travelling to the accommodation after nights out and therefore just by attracting large groups it is reducing neighbours right to quiet enjoyment of their properties. In addition, even without noisy / drunken behaviour, large numbers of people going outside to smoke at night would also likely lead to additional noise. 3. Overcrowding - adding in 47 beds into 2 floors seems dangerously overcrowded in terms of overdevelopment, fire safety and associated waste (both sewage and rubbish). Comment submitted date: Tue 12 Dec 2017 As a fellow neighbour I agree with the previous comments. We all know pubs can be noisy but they ought to be managed with consideration for those living nearby and a 47 bed hostel would have a huge impact on local residents. Comment submitted date: Fri 08 Dec 2017 The Cherry Tree pub already causes a significant amount of disturbance to its neighbours especially during the summer months. With the introduction of a hostel element this will certainly get worse and cause more harm to the surrounding area both noise generated by the pub but also due to the increase in personnel flow to and from the pub after hours. Please consider the local residents. Comment submitted date: Fri 08 Dec 2017 As a neighbour of the Cherry Tree Pub, we already have ongoing noise and disturbance related issues with this pub on a constant basis. This is both in terms of loud music and the pub not adhering to their agreement to close the garden at 10pm, keeping their neighbours awake with drunken shouting and swearing from patrons. The addition of 47 beds in a hostel environment will only compound this issue and make it more unbearable for the pub's neighbours. People coming and going at all hours, people smoking, talking, gathering outside etc. Such a use of the space is completely antisocial for those who already suffer at the expense of the pub. I implore you to not approve this application as it is completely against the spirit of community and neighbourhood caring in East Dulwich. Surely it's time for a licence review????
