  1. With you keeping a close eye on all works in Dulwich Village maybe you can tell us why Southwark re-paved the stretch between East Dulwich Grove and Gilkes Place last year when it did not need done? GG
  2. Competitive tendering would suggest that several different contractors would be involved in doing work for Southwark. Why is it always only Conways that we see doing work for Southwark? They have spent weeks working at the end of Glengarry Road where it meets East Dulwich Grove and apart from blocking off Glengarry and making the EDG narrower, there appears to be little benefit. Maybe someone can explain cos it beats me why money is being spent this way! GG
  3. The camper van wasn't there early this morning. Maybe the OP came across a crime in progress ie the person driving was stealing it! GG

If it's any consolation, when my kids are really acting up, I sometimes think I'd prefer to be single and childless. But "sad and single" were your choice of words. 'Nuf said!
  5. I know the VW camper in question - I see it every time I walk to JAGS gym. It is plastered with pacifist, liberal, cr@p stickers like "drop acid not bombs" and these are mostly of US origin. I'm surprised that camper is still there after all these years and that that P!k?$ havn't nicked it yet! But then you never know who the owners might be!!

  10. Typical Fox, always slinking away without any thought of contrition. Plonker! GG
  11. You have just told us what happened. Are you a ghoul? GG
  12. I guess I know how you feel as I about one hour ago I tripped over a something on my patio and you know what.... it was a very sick junior rat. It's still there and very thin and lethargic. I think it must have been poisoned. Please tell me how you get on with your fox cub as I think someone should help me out with this lovely little animal. Should I call 111 or is it worth giving 999 a go?

The silent majority would put up with searches every day of the week so long as it helps reduce stabbings and othe crimes committed with weapons. I would guess that your ilk would also side with the judges that keep Abu Qatada in our country rather than send him back to where he came from. GG

Dangerous to make assumptions old chap. You will be disappointed to know that I spread 7.5 Kg of my own rock salt in front of our house plus our neighbours and then cleared the bad icy bits remaining. I have one 20 kg bag of salt spare for ?14. Come round and collect it if you like and when you are here, kindly check out the pavement. You can PM me to get the address. GG
  15. > Your money is better spent! > > So is the taxpayer cash - that's why we don't > build a transport system for Arctic conditions. Spot on. There is a hint of the "Dependency Culture" with the OP ie get the authorities to come up with a solution -irrespective of the cost. And all this while we have fit and able people claiming benefits and sitting at home watching Sky Sports. An ordinary shovel costs about ?9 and a snow shovel costs $4.99 in Sainsbo's and will last years. I wonder if the OP has invested in either. Either way he/she wants to score cheap political points.
  16. Snow clearing is a classic task for those crims doing so-called Community Service. In advance of a predicted snowfall, allocate each a shovel and a stretch of pavement (about 200 yards) and tell them to keep the pavement clear - starting at 6am before it get tramped into ice. Conduct a daily performance appraisal with the incentive of reduced sentence if performance is satisfactory. Ooh, and they must hand the shovel back too, when the job is done. It is a system that works well in Austria, Bavaria and some states in the USA. GG

Yes, most definitely it is flyposting. It is an offensive practice. There are other ways of advising a message. A card in the news agents window costs only very little and helps local business. And by the way, I have a lovely ginger tom called BigPus. He snuggles up on my lap at every opportunity and when I am out the back he ambushes me playfully by leaping out from hiding. I work on the basis that dogs have masters but cats have servants. I know my place!
  19. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You Plonker gooseGreen! Question Why do some people resort to petty insults when they start losing in a reasoned argument? Best Answer - Chosen by Asker Because they are being led by their pride/ego in arguing with you, not by reason. They may genuinely disagree with you in the beginning, but it's not about having a genuine discussion that brings a real resolution or about speaking the truth for them... they want to be right in the end and to look and feel strong in whatever the position is that they've chosen. They don't have the humility to face the reality that they are not always right. So when it becomes apparent that they are wrong, their pride/ego feels attacked and vulnerable and is afraid to face that fact. So then they try to protect their ego by distracting from the initial argument and attempt make you look bad so that they will feel like they look good again, in comparison... Their underlying reason for digressing to petty insults was all about protecting appearances (no longer about the original subject) - they equate being wrong with being a negative appearance that is unacceptable for them (even if it's reality!). Thank you Asker!

Ridgley Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I agree with Cora I don?t have a problem with > posters as long as it taken down after the event. > There more pressing things in life then worrying > about a poster. How about it when it costs you money? What sparked my interest in "managing" flyposting was the thesis a friend did on the subject some years ago. Fascinating - particularly in terms of the differing responses that it generates amongst people and institutions. Singapore has massive fines and custodial sentences. Leeds and Liverpool are tolerant (possibly because of cash constraints) with the result you see in photos 1 & 2. B.T. use special textured coating on their junction cabinets whch now stops this kind of thing Photo 4 Southampton had a problem which prompted a campaign - photo 5. Tower Hamlets tried a different approach by pasting a "CANCELLED" sticker over each poster for events. Photo 6 Etc, etc The other observation she made was that there was a direct correlation between flyposting, graffiti and crime levels Removing flypostings (and chewing gum) costs the council money and that money comes out of our own pockets - irrespective of whether you are tolerant, intolerant or laissez-faire
  21. the-e-dealer Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Would you ban chewing gum too? Singapore did and you wont see any flyposting there either. It's a much cleaner and more attractive living environment E.D. GG

At weekends however I make a special effort, as I have my mate with me. Here's us last week in Photo2 GG
  23. macrobana Wrote: > Which part of the legislation gives you this > "right"? Every responsible citizen has an obligation to prevent crime and to curtail an on-going crime. Casting a blind eye to abuse or criminality just leads to more wrong doing and more serious criminality. That's the price of tolerance and Liberalism. A zero tolerance policy is highly effective in reducing crime - as borne out by results in New York. GG
  24. Well done! I agree with all you say but I am somewhat less tolerant. I believe in direct action in all cases. I check every Council notice for validity and take them down immediately they have expired. It's not a big issue. All other posters attached to street furniture are illegal fly-postings and are in contravention of Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (TCPA 1990) and the Highways Act 1980 (HA 1980). You are within your rights to take direct action. If the fly postings are of a commercial nature, I tear them down immediately and report them for possible prosecution after I have thoroughly researched who is responsible and how they can be contacted. I pass this on to the authorities as they may not always make the effort to do thorough research. If I cannot remove them immediately, I deface them with a permanent marker with the words "Scam" or "Rip-off". I find a cheap side- cutter is very effective at cutting through plastic ties. If it's about missing cats or dogs I ignore them for 3 days - after which the animal has either returned home or has gone to meet its maker. After that they come down. I have found that a zero tolerance policy has a significant deterrence value. It's like graffiti, if you deface the artist's handy work immediately, they very soon give up. GG

Whats the > problem dont you like animals? I have to dig out my garage foundations next week but I know there is a rat's nest under the floor, Does that mean I have to call the council to relocate our little friends and give Liberal Democrat Cllr Robin Crookshank Hilton an opportunity to be seen to be doing good deeds for the community? Pidgeons! I've shot more bloody pidgeons than she got votes at the last election! GG
