  1. Another vote for Gary and his team. We asked him to work on two smaller jobs, the more tricky of which was to cut out a corner of a fitted kitchen that contained an integrated fridge that is about to wheeze its last, and "make good" in preparation for a freestanding fridge. So, as was: Naturally once the units had been removed it became clear that the kitchen fitters back in 1998 had buried all sorts of horrors. Woodchip, Artex, tiles, gas, electrics, you name it. Gary worked around all the issues and has basically left us with a clean white space for a new fridge, even fitting some spare floor tiles that were left by the previous residents back in 2005. It's a small area, but the process was pretty laborious because of the number of layers of plasterboard, filler, more filler, fine filler, paint etc. that all had to dry. The other job was a broken wall in a bathroom. A panel had to be cut out. There's no point in me posting an "after" photo because it's simply a flat white wall and you wouldn't know that anything had happened. Once we've caught our breath we'll be asking Gary to come back for a lot of other things that need to be sorted around the house. He is on 07572 588222 - pro tip: I think it's fair to say that he conducts most of his business via WhatsApp.
  2. Yet another recommendation for Dave and Josh. I originally got McHow's details from this thread and asked about the feasability of a fairly extensive job that I wasn't sure was even do-able - basically re-doing the whole tank / immersion / pump system in my house. Dave came round quickly and assured me that it could be done. Dave's communications are great. He and Josh actually turned up when they said they would. They did a highly professional and tidy job and we're very pleased with the result. Also as others have said, there were no "extras" - I assumed I'd end up paying his quote plus 10%-20%, but the final bill was exactly what he said it would be. Finally I've recently asked him to stop by again for something that I suspected was down to the main water supply rather than his work. He was there within a couple of hours and confirmed that it was caused by a leak in the road. He wouldn't accept payment even though I asked to pay a normal call out charge. Two thumbs up.
  3. Hi We got Kent Heating to replace our warm air heating boiler http://www.kentheating.co.uk/ and they also come and service it every year. No complaints, other than the fact that there's no competition for warm air boiler manufacturers so they're pretty spendy!
  4. ... and another +1 for Elliot. Although firstly thanks to the EDF for the recommendation here in the first place. Elliot recently replaced all 11 doors in my house, and built some new under-stair cupboards. He said he'd be there at 8am on the Monday, and was on the doorstep at 7.59. After that he worked his way through the house and despite the fact that there isn't a straight line or right angle in the whole place finished on schedule and to a very high level of quality. Doors that close! Ooooooh! Skilled, thoughtful and tidy it was a pleasure to just give him a set of keys and let him get on with it. Also a big +1 for Andriy, the decorator who Elliot recommended and who I understand usually does the painting once Elliot has finished with the joinery. He decorated the whole house top to bottom, including all the new doors, on his own, and did a fantastic job. That's also the first time I've been presented with receipts from builder's merchants only to see re-useables like gloves carefully struck out and deducted from the total - Andriy is super-scrupulous :-) Cheers, Guy
