  1. And your point is? Companies always do whatever they can to break strikes - get agency staff in, get management to cover staff roles, actively encourage striking breaking (AKA scabbing) etc. Why is LU any different? In your previous post, you seem to suggest you have to be a union member to get a job as a trainee driver - this is just completely facutally incorrect.
  2. Once again, this dispute is nothing to do with tube drivers!!!!!! Not really Loz - why don't LU just get some temps in? Some people that have contributed to this thread will tell you that you that it only takes five days training to be a tube driver. ;-)
  3. I think the RMT are all over it, hence the reason for the rejection of the ?100 offer and the whole dispute in the first place.
  4. Because there will be an extra 3 million journeys on the tube, people will be required to work addtional shifts, therefore they want more money. Pretty straightforward really, although there are some people that will obviously be opposed to this simply for the sake of being contrary.
  5. Quite the opposite - Bob Crow actually works for the government as an MI5 agent destroying the commies from within.
  6. Side-splittingly funny, but....THIS DISPUTE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TUBE DRIVERS!!!
  7. It may well be the public don't agree with the tube workers' bonus, but then that's why the public aren't running the tube ;-)
  8. Looks like France is actually going to do this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16783520 Sarkozy must be worried about the polls showing the socialists are going to get back in!
  9. Exactly! If John Terry calls Anton Ferdinand a blind c u next Tuesday - part and parcel. If he calls him a black c u next Tuesday - it's vile, disgusting, he needs to be banned and stripped of the England/Chelsea captaincy etc.
  10. Every time there's an election, or even a big political story, doesn't the Beeb publish stats showing the number of complaints its coverage receives regarding its supposedly pro Labour/Tory/Lib Dem reporting, which usually shows a fairly even split thus demonstrating its neutrality?
  11. Thomas - compassionate consumers are not gonna happen on a wide scale in the foreseeable. If Sainsbos free range/fair trade/organic stuff was the same price as the rest of their range, no question we'd all be buying it, right? Why wouldn't we? But it's not, and its not likely to be anytime soon.
  12. We're going round in circles here. I think the payment isn't just for working harder because it's also an allowance for additional shifts i.e. more work. End of story. I'm not sure what your point is re unions and Hestor. If you're trying to say they don't care about the size of his bonus you're very wrong.
  13. I don't deny it's coming from the taxpayer, but it's not an additional net cost to the taxpayer as a result of the Olympics and as I stated right from the start, I have no problem with the principle of both the public and private sectors paying bonuses. So after stating "if they were working more hours then I'd expect them to get paid for it, and to get a bonus if they were pressured into it" your problem isn't actually the fact that they're asking for a bonus, it's the fact that it's LU staff asking for it. If you're worked up this much by a ?500 bonus for tube staff, your head must be close to exploding when it comes to Hestor.
  14. Exactly what "additional expenditure" is having to be covered by the taxpayer? I suspect that the extra revenue LU will get from the three million extra tube journeys that will happen everyday during the Olympics will just about cover a ?500 payment to staff.
  15. BTW...I think they'd settle for ?500 - do you think this constitutes a "big wad of cash?"
  16. Not my words, I was quoting the RMT. I guess it comes down to whether "increased workloads" will mean they have to work increased hours. I'd say it does because if you go right back to the RMT's original rejection of LU's offer - it was a rejection of an offer for not only the ?100 flat rate extra payment but also allowances for additional shifts.
  17. Errr....see page 1 of this read - they want more money for increased workload and pressures....deliberately missing the point again? Still, you've convinced me. The DLR will obviously need more man hours and the tube won't. I hope no deal is reached. Quite right DLR staff and tube drivers should get something, but tube staff will not be affected so stuff 'em. Although, I hope if the extremely remote chance of stories appearing in the press (and possibly a thread on here???) regarding 'transport chaos' actually come true, you'll be able to point out it's completely unnecessary to have more people working on the tube.
  18. To clarify, this now means the catchment area effectively contracts further, right?
  19. Best thing about the Actress is the large HD screen that can be pulled down when required. The rest of it is pretty good as well.
  20. Why do you keep talking about tube drivers? They have nothing to do with this - their deal was agreed months ago. The OP linked to the the story about the RMT wanting a deal for tube staff. Are you actually saying you can see why the DLR will need additional man hours, but even with three million extra journeys a day on the tube extra hours won't be needed there?
  21. I wouldn't say the Lane has loads of places that show sport at all. I may be wrong, but as far as I recall only the EDT and the Mag do - Black Cherry, Bishop, Palmerston, Adventure, Franklins and the Plough don't. Best thing about the CPT at the moment is the 3pm Premiership kick-offs they show occasionally. I hope they keep that.
  22. Nothing remains to be seen re tube drivers - they've already agreed a deal which means they'll get at least ?500. Funny how you recognise the DLR will need an additional 45,000 hours, but can't seem to comprehend the extra three million journeys on the tube everyday will require more hours worked. Even funnier you say the DLR demands are "honest" when the deal has been agreed with the "greedy, feckless extortionists" that are the RMT.
  23. A fair deal has now been agreed for DLR staff - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-16736446 Won't be long before one is agreed with the tube workers I'd guess. The deal is also further evidence that the introduction of driverless tube trains will prevent industrial disputes and strikes.
  24. I'm not sure 'Arry's going to be in a position to bring in anyone for much longer.
  25. We did long haul to America many times when our daughter was young. I'd say let her sleep when it suits her (within reason!). It will probably mean you're up at 4am for a while the first night, but we found it's better to have that rather than worrying about routines that are going to be messed up anyway because you aren't at home. When it comes to flight times, flights out will get you there late afternoon/evening which is perfect after travelling for that distance as you can get to where you're going and just sleep. Coming back, we've always done the overnight - we found kids that small generally seem to be able to sleep on planes much better than adults. Whatever you do, don't stress. New York at that time of year is brilliant.
