  1. Hi, thanks for the info - visa agencies are my last resort as they want about ?150 for a 50 euro visa. My plans have changed now so I no longer need the Malian visa but still need a Nigerien one.. as there's only one to get now I think I'll have a trip to the continent to get it, much easier and would work out cheaper than the amount I paid in courier fees last time!
  2. Not quite ED but there's a grocer on Camberwell Church Street near the green (I think it's called Cruson) with lots of plants outside - I got a beautiful chilli plant which is now flowering, and three tomato plants all for ?4!
  3. I don't think you are supposed to send passports.. I just didn't tell the couriers that was what I was sending last time. I am considering some options, one of which is going out there myself! I was just wondering if anyone had a miracle solution...
  4. I need to send my passport to the Malian embassy in Paris, so that they can put a visa in it and then send it back to me. Last time I had to do this I almost lost my passport as the courier company refused to send it back without the person paying for it being there in person. Luckily the embassy took pity on me and paid for it to come back! Does anyone know how I can arrange from the UK for a parcel to be sent to me from France (or Belgium)? It has to be some sort of secure delivery as it's my passport! Thank you!
  5. Well this one can run and run. I'll probably have to defend Peckham to the masses for as long as I live here - Bellenden Belle, we should set up a cheerleading squad together. Rye lane is great - fun and colourful sums it up well. Hectic sometimes, occassionally a bit stressful when you're in a rush - but you can get a lot of useful stuff on that road and people are pretty friendly. I was struggling down Rye Lane with a massive parcel the other day and every shop I went into, people held doors open, helped me carry it.. I love where I live. If you do move to the area Chantelle, let us know and we'll have a nice night out in SE15 celebrating the fact we're all in on a little secret that it's a great place to live!
  6. The negative comments above are the usual ones I hear from people who don't live in Peckham. I'll admit, when I was living elsewhere I had the same impression. Then I ended up living here (by Peckham Rye station, Bellenden Road area). All I can go on is my experience - and I'm really happy here. I have good local shops, great local pubs, nice restaurants, two lovely parks, an easy train ride to work and generally I find people pretty friendly round here. I sometimes come home on late trains and feel safe doing so (I'm young and female). I would reckon we do have more anti social/undesirable/call it what you will behaviour round here than in East Dulwich, but like most parts of London, if you don't go looking for it, it doesn't come and find you. There are bits of Peckham I'm not happy walking round, so I don't walk round them. Don't be put off by people who don't know the area. I like it. Bellenden's not quite a village, but my neighbours talk to me and I know some of the shop keepers, which is good enough for me. Try getting a train into Peckham Rye early evening, have a little wander up to Warwick gardens, then go to Ganapati or Il Giardino for dinner, then have a drink at the Gowlett and the Montpellier and see what you think. The only thing I don't like is the 12 bus, and that goes to East Dulwich too!
  7. They do have a pub quiz on Mondays, I think it starts at 8.30pm.. and there's also one at the Gowlett on Mondays too.
  8. That's really interesting to see. Is there a key anywhere to which number refers to which party on the spreadsheet?
  9. I used to live half way between PR and ED stations. When I first moved to the area I would always wait for an ED train back from London Bridge, even though there were some that only stopped at PR leaving before the ED train, because I didn't feel safe. However, I started using PR station more as it had the benefit of coming in from Victoria as well, and soon decided I felt much safer coming back from there than ED - as Bellenden Belle says, there are shops open, more people around and for where I was living, meant I didn't have to walk along Grove Vale which is fairly empty and dark at night. Another big bonus for PR station is that there are usually staff there until abot 10 - 10.30pm. Now I live up by Peckham Rye station and I love it - there's always people about, and I feel totally safe living there. I'm young and female and as my housemates will testify, a complete wimp, so I don't think there's anything more to worry about at Peckham Rye station than there is anywhere else in London.
  10. Two groups to talk to about getting cycle lockers installed: London Cycling Campaign and Southwark Cyclists who should be able to point you in the right direction. We had cycle lockers at my last work place and they're great - but be sure to also lock your bike to the inside of the locker, as one locker was broken into and the bike just taken out.
  11. I do like a night out dancing every now and again - and I'd like some ideas for something new! I have no idea what genre of music I like, but I do like the music they play in Inside 72 (Inside 72 with a dance floor would be perfect really!), I'm a big fan of Radio 6 and I quite like soul/disco/motown sort of music. Also not adverse to a little bit of cheese now and again. I want a fun night out dancing and drinking and I'm quite happy to go to central London. Anyone got any suggestions? Thank you!
  12. A couple of years back I stayed with a group of friends in the big apartment listed on this site but they have a couple of smaller ones. It was a good location (near an underground station) and a beautiful apartment and very helpful landlady. I know it's not a hotel, but with kids might be nicer to have your own place? Anyway, comes highly recommended! And Vienna is lovely, good choice.
  13. I too love the music of Inside 72 - do you think we could get them to write down a playlist before they close?! How would you describe their music anyway (genre wise I mean, not that I know anything about musical genres) - on the off chance I could find somewhere else with such good music! edited for clarity
  14. I too live on Adys Road and think my location is perfect - half way between East Dulwich for all the great things it has to offer, and Rye Lane, for useful things like pound shops, banks and Peckham Rye Station, which is not only better in the morning but also coming home again as twice as many trains stop there as East Dulwich. There's also the shops on East Dulwich Road and Bellenden Road, you're walking distance from Sainsbury's and the Gowlett is a massive plus point, I couldn't ask for a nicer local. As for traffic - I work 9-5 and don't drive so I don't have much perspective on what it's like, but the traffic has never bothered me, I notice the noisy foxes in the church yard more!
  15. Hello I'm Helen! Count me in, sounds great fun. I can't make tonight unfortunately, but keep me posted!
