How many 2.6% cans does it take to get p!ssed?, am thinking that drowning must have been a very real risk.

and my first loan went on natty threads which lasted me most of my degree. Happy days indeed.

Wish I'd worked harder and appreciated the luxury of having so much time on my hands but I did enjoy college, the study and the drinking and the study of drinking. Very glad I did an applied degree (in design and media) though, many friends who took traditional courses left college feeling like they'd wasted time. I graduated in 1994. A year later I had to forgo a place on a good MA course because of fees. Were that now I might have not even done the first degree. Boo! Nasty Government! etc

Does anyone else ojbect to cold calling on the phone
AnotherPaul replied to TillieTrotter's topic in The Lounge
Tillie, Are Ojbects neighbours of the Uzbeks? And good rant Sean! Details different but my sentiments precisely. -
As the one who started the thread my t'uppence worth is that if Mr Admin wants to lounge it then he should do so. It was a very open ended title, not surprising it went off course. Me and my naive ways. I would be happy to review the best ideas from this thread and start off some more focussed threads. There have been some very good ideas suggested, would be shame that they get sumberged in a sea of chatter. And woe betide us if DM was to enforce discipline. Argos and Index testify that it's rather more tedious than one might expect. AP

Are there any scientologists in our midst?
AnotherPaul replied to TillieTrotter's topic in The Lounge
It's going to have to be cushions and the comfy chair. Remember, said Scient0logy git's head is to be jammed in a window whilst all this larking about is going on, no need to rush. As and ex-alter boy I want the biggest cruxifix! But happy for Senor Mockers to lead - and get followed about for weeks after. -

Good, I'll open the window, close it firmly on his head and remind him of how religious people are meant to be polite and friendly. Then get spanish inquisition on his ass - cushions, not thumbscrews. AP -

AnotherPaul replied to TillieTrotter's topic in The Lounge
er, Mark, does that mean they now know where you live? I'll help form a protective wall around your house if needs be. That scientology man will discover karma too late m'thinks. AP -
Mrs Paul wanted one of those bags, realised they cost ?15 and was rather upset (polite version). The bags and aprons are a great looking product, congrats to the creator on the design but the price is seriously off putting. AP

Louisiana, I know, i was just bigging up the experience omitting to mention the lack of human interaction, frustration at having to work on sunny days even though at home, etc. Still, my kids get to peer review my work. AP

I was in The Winonas at college. We didn't play any gigs at all, practiced three times before apathy halted play. Should have stuck to shoplifting.

oh that is so funny, i see what mike did there.

actually it must be rosemary. i hate lavender so wouldn't have done it.
-
Ant, I know, I have the kids issue too, so much disturbed sleep and general tiredness. A tip for good quick vivid dreams is to put some rosemary or lavender in a cloth bag (clean sock) under your pillow. can't remember which it was, it's a long time since i did this. i'll have a go over the weekend and report back. A few years ago myself and my partner OneJulia started writing down our dreams. We did it as soon as was practical each day so as to ensure our accounts of the previous nights' night-time mental bedlam were as true to the real thing as possible. We found that by paying attention to our dreams we became better at remembering them and they became more detailed. So, I thought it would be fun to kick off a last night's dream thread. Please keep it cleanish or mr admin will wake us up and ruin the best bit. Last night I dreamt that from here to Woolwich was a kind of megaplex shopping centre. It was surprisingly easy to move swiftly across the massive site, I was either not paying attention or flying about (can't be sure). There were many floors and gladly no recognisable brands, retail outlets or people for that matter. On the far side of this complex there was an old street of derelict red brick terraced houses. At the back of these houses the yards had low walls and broken down fences. I went into one of the gardens, found a really good racer bike and got excited thinking, 'wow, this is such a great thing to find'. Then realised it was broken, don't know why it was, it just was, so I left it and woke up. AP x

I've started broadcasting randomly selected youtube clips via my bionic leg, now that is what really LL needs! AP

East Dulwich - a new phase?
AnotherPaul replied to SeanMacGabhann's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is a change happening, I can see it and have only been here three years. Myself and lady Paul have just had to choose between buying a flat here or a house elsewhere and plumped for the former, we like ED too much to leave (tears of joy etc). In part we decided to stay as it feels like the area is likely to retain it's character. Of course the influx of the seriously well off will have an impact but that need not be a negative. LL is well protected from a corporate invasion by the retail properties being mainly quite small and therefore not much use to chains who require large floorspace to shift lots of products. It's a shame about whitestuff, personally I dislike what they stock, but that's just one store amongst a majority of independents. -
Cycling charter from the evening standard
AnotherPaul replied to beatnic's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I agree that it should include safety equipment and charter's a great idea but hugely optimistic. There are thousands of drivers still cruising about using their hand-held mobiles with impunity how will it ever be possible to "Enforce (?) special advanced stop lines for cyclists"? Nero, It's a shame you think that that "cyclists are getting everything and not being asked to do anything themselves". We are doing something, not fouling up the environment is pretty important. As for that couple taking 1.5 hours to get from Islington to LL, they must have been wanting to get lost, or be really dim, or both. -
Honor Oak - the new old On ED?
AnotherPaul replied to bawdy-nan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
when I said '?and really useful gift shops replicated anywhere else in London. I meant to say 'and really the most useful gift shops anywhere in the world, even accounting for Upper Street". I just spent time house hunting all over the south. Honor Oak appealed as an idea, near ED, some shops and cafes, but ultimately it's a big crossroads near Brockley. And yes Joe, very like Streatham in it's bleakness but without terrorists, an ice rink or Elvis impersonators to liven things up. Queue someone popping up with 'I know the ice skating terrorist Elvis of Honor Oak' etc. -
Honor Oak - the new old On ED?
AnotherPaul replied to bawdy-nan's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There are some good houses and a few nice looking streets (inc. the brilliantly named 'Gladiator Street') but Honor Oak's a lot smaller than ED and lacks a real centre. The tapas bar's great and the second hand furniture store is (to my mind) better than anything on LL. But, and it's a big but, the shabby streets are really shabby and full of the between wars house I can't ever see being all that popular. I've lived in 5 boroughs during the last 13 years but have never witnessed ED's combination of great open spaces, good housing and really useful gift shops replicated anywhere else in London. -
Multi purpose shops are what we need. As the premises tend to be small around ED I think the future is in combining businesses so how about a maternity shop and sushi bar with in-house midwife for those wasabi induced births.

I've just beamed in from Mars. Please, I need to know, what are this Sainsburys and Starbucks? ::o

"It is dreadful mews, nut would somebody please open a Starbucks?" Visiting Star*ucks may cause spelling mayhem.
