  1. Multi purpose shops are what we need. As the premises tend to be small around ED I think the future is in combining businesses so how about a maternity shop and sushi bar with in-house midwife for those wasabi induced births.
  2. I've just beamed in from Mars. Please, I need to know, what are this Sainsburys and Starbucks? ::o
  3. "It is dreadful mews, nut would somebody please open a Starbucks?" Visiting Star*ucks may cause spelling mayhem.
  4. Ed too wealthy?! Maybe true but we shouldn't assume that goes against the area. There's a cutural network here (partly evidenced by this site) which would thrive if given a good modern venue - that would be hard to make work in Peckham (chavs/bling/crime etc). Tessa Jowell being our MP could prove an interesting dynamic in setting a centre up. Also, that the Olympics (?9bn worth of people wearing skimpy clothes) is coming up might be an opportunity to lever the govt. (local and national) into proving it's not just investing in sport.
  5. a cultural centres doesn't have to involve loud banging music. Well? there is such a thing as sound proofing. There's no contemporary cultural venue in ED which, considering the newish populous, is daft. And if locals wanted it, such a space could be used to celebrate the life of Sir Cliff (resulting in swift deflation of local house prices).
  6. What if it wasn't flats though. Prime land like that could and should be used for cultural projects, far more important than flats, as if there aren't enough of us living here already.
  7. An arts club, venue, bar, creative shop, rooms for hire and veggie restaurant all in one. Sounds great but who's going to start by asking the police to vacate? 'Too many mummies and not enough trendies?', maybe true, I think the trendies/arts people are here already, just obscured by all the 4x4s and consumer boredom. A space/venue big enough would probably come from the council and require a massive chunk of arts funding. This sounds scarily big but why not, if Deptford can have the Laban and Creekside studios.
  8. Ok, tiny tears do make an ocean. I'm quite recently passed which kind of accounts for the two errors I've made. I think more like a cyclist than a car driver so must remember to stop driving straight through red lights, mounting kerbs and swearing at cabs.
  9. I think we're well served in the main, by favs are the folks in Blue Mountain, Petit chou, Pretty Traditional, SMBS and Cheese block. Not controversial but liked by me. More risque but true, Kristina at Bushells, yes an estate agent!
  10. No Pierre, it's not just you their service is terrible and the whole 'shop' and 'customer' logic is so out of place as to be insulting. I can hear the discussion in the council now 'fines office is too realistic, we need a softer more likeable name. Let's call it a 'shop' and our mugs 'customers' will be happier', er except you're fining ?50-?100 a time for doing tiny little things wrong. Blood boils etc.
  11. Today, Booka shade, Hot chip, Mark Ronson, LCD, Depth charge, Amy Winehouse, Radioclit and Dolly Parton. I'm having eclectic issues today.
  12. sounds like we need hacienda 2 with kareoke. that would be fun!
  13. Shambles, sorry, was in a persecuted mood this morning having just read a load of anti-child and parent bile elsewhere on EDF. My opinion of the old Herne stands though, I live on St Aidans and the previous landlords of the pub were very bad neighbours - twice letting catering oil spill onto the pavement, then leaving it to stink up that end of the street. But Again, sorry, wasn't meaning to be personal.
  14. Hi, this thread could also be entitled business ideas for ED. First off, I'd like there to be a bar/members club to go after the pubs shut which also doubles as a good party venue. And then, a nice new stationery/art supplies shop which caters for creative professionals and children (the same thing?)
  15. I know convention means it's to be somewhere similar but for the sake of difference and to make the inevitable junkets good fun I'd go for Ibiza (tasteful parts mind), Palermo and Brooklyn.
  16. Thanks for the munkey puzzle tip off Huguenot, that's challenged my search somewhat having a thought previously of oaks and the like - interesting. And James, Honor Oak is a bit off piste for my purposes - you see I'm developing design ideas for the pagehead of this site (in conjunction with the Administrator) so trees used as reference need to mean something to users of this site. Ta anyway. Any more out there?
  17. Right? gloves off, knuckles cracked etc. Yeah, buggies weilding parents can be rude/annoying but then so can most people. As a parent with a 4 wheeled buggie I try to make space for anyone who needs it as I imagine do most of my mates with kids. Louisa, please try not to see a few as representative of all. Builders treating the roads of ED like their personal property. One chav/git tried to fight me for asking if they could move some bins they'd blocked part of my road with - "coz we's avin a delivery init". :( Also, builders/delivery people parking anywhere using their hazard lights to make it ok. It's not ok, they are not fifth emergency service and it will cause an accident someday. The gift shops are awful and quite funny all at once. Their stock is absurd and makes me ashamed to be human. Such a waste of resources goes into this pointless tat. Evil. The LL stationery shop. Poorly stocked and quite unhelpful - can't lean a bike against his window whilst in his shop and won't accept card payments. Yes, I know they guys who can't speak English are friendly but that's not why I need a stationery shop. 4x4s. Not strictly an ED problem but our roads are pretty narrow (what with all the other cars parked on 'em) so they often get stuck. I love the contradiction between the ads for these pieces of do-do in which we witness them traversing deserts and icefields, then I look outside at mum x with her two very small children in the back driving to the shops. Sad and irresponsible. Awful pub colour schemes (CPT, Magdela, Upland etc). Why and how does this happen? A genetic deficiency in publicans maybe? Phew.
  18. I'm looking for truly great trees to photograph for a design project related to this site - all shall be revealed soon. Said tree has to be in East Dulwich and accessible, preferably with some space around it. If there's a story which goes with the liking of a tree then all the better. :)
  19. I love the Herne being so child friendly but it is certainly not the relaxing experience I'd previously come to associate with going to a pub. But having two U5's I've adapted my idea of what a good pub should be and appreciate that having a place to meet with friends and have a pint or some food on a weekend afternoon is great. As for griping about the changes made to the pub, having been in there a few times before the make-over there's simply no comparison. If shambles prefers moody staff watching TV all day serving crap lager and sub-standard food in an empty pub then there are still boozers like that - maybe try Lewisham?
  20. Hello, I could do you a lovely logo, please a look at my site for examples http://www.oneanother.ltd.uk The site was designed by me and built by BeatNic. If you're interested we should meet for a chat before any making happens. Regards, Paul
