Top ten worst foods to eat........apparently!
david_carnell replied to DJKillaQueen's topic in The Lounge
I've been to Oban - in fact for a "holiday" my parents once forced me to stay a week in cottage there. Bleak doesn't come close. And as MrBen aptly demonstrates it is a culinary desert. I knew this at 14 before I'd even tasted pesto! Are there worse places in Britain for food than Oban? Nominations with descriptions please.... -

Surely lit eyes are a wasted opportunity Bob. Given a gibbon's bulbous posterior I would suggest an illuminted derriere would be more entertaining to the brain-dead masses incapable of appreciating old-style taxidermy.

Oh! For the love of God women - let it rest. That thread was long enough as it was without you trying to drag it up again here. And whilst this sort of regrettable incident does happen, it's pretty rare. So let's clamber of our high horse shall we and enjoy the objectivity at ground level. I think you'd struggle to find a safer park in London.

Bleedin' pinko, lefty, liberal journalist tossurs etc
david_carnell replied to ????'s topic in The Lounge
And... Is your problem that it's left-wing or that you help fund it? By it's very nature a public-service broadcaster making TV for reasons other than profit, viewer numbers or at the behest of global megacorp sponsors, is going to be more left of centre than right. But considering it was a BBC journalist and his boss who lost their jobs over the Iraq war rather than anyone from News International, you'll have a hard time convincing me of anything other than staunch impartiality. Or a better model for funding. Or that every other country in the world wishes their public service broadcasters were as good (or as independent) as the BBC. You want Fox instead? You need your head looking at! -
Except that you're all missing the point. No-one cares (or at least they shouldn't) whether Hague is gay or not. Except for Ffion, maybe. What is a problem is that the Foreign Secretary has hired someone palpably unqualified for the job as a Special Adviser. Now if he did this as an act of nepotism because the boy gave good head then it's a clear breach of both parliamentary rules and morality. Hague can sleep with animal, mineral or vegetable, I don't care as long as he's good at his job. But he's shown a stunning lack of judgement in this appointment and the idea that a prominent member of the opposition, a married millionaire, would "share" a room with his aide merely reinforces this lack of judgement. If his aide was female everyone would be on him like a flash - why not now? Number 10 have quelled the flames by making Hague issue a statement, and his personal bereavements are undoubtably tragic, but it doesn't excuse hiring a 25 year old, who's experience amounts to being a driver, as a political adviser on foreign relations.

Whilst I like the Gowlett, that article was nonsense. It listed St John Brwead and Wine as a cheap eat. Now, I love that too but no way would you call it cheap or bracket it in the same price range as the Gowlett. Bizarre.

Although wikipedia is only a self-editing encyclopedia - it could just as easily be Huguenot's opinion. And I, for one, agree with him. Whilst some vegetarian food, just as non-vegetarian food, can be superb; ignoring vast swathes of consumables based on an ethical conviction would strike me as a particularly non-gastronomic attitude.

Are bbq's permitted in the arboretum Peckham Rye?
david_carnell replied to kristymac1's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Nor on the Rye itself. I've been approached by a warden and chastised for doing just that. Fair enough - my disposable killed a hefty portion of grass. Whoops. -

Not a chance - I know how good you are at this betting malarky. Although I do fancy some chocolate cake now. If I should make some, I'll give you a piece, and then we could send some to Blowers as well. Get our names on TMS. Trott/Broad looking like a very important partnership at the moment.
-
Well, we've passed the 130 mark so that's a small mercy. Let's hope Anderson exploits the cloud and moisture as much as Asif has. And PGC, Blowers is lovely. Has he spotted any pigeons today? Or been sent any cake by listeners?
-
130, best I can work out from this.

What's our record low score against Pakistan?

Oh. Dear. This could be bad. 4 down.

Not as much as I do after reading that blog. Sheesh.

Really?! Don't be an arse. Eating squirrel is absolutely fine. Want to have a debate about the morals of meat eating? Fine, but do it properly not hiding behind the guise of scare mongering in some sub-tabloid manner. Most unbecoming.

Alas they were not merely hidden but deleted permanently. And as such are irretrievable. Again my apologies. "Breaking cover" - I like that though, implies I'm some sort of undercover agent. Nor was I trying to edit the thread by the way - there are many options available and it was a simple error of carelessness. I shall now lock the thread though, as per your instructions.

From a culinary pov, I'd recommend roasting your tomatoes with herbs and garlic and olive oil before turning them into a sauce, passata, soup etc. The roasting itensifies the flavour much more than boiling.

Hold an "open nets" session where members of the public could come down and have a bash at batting or bowling whilst coaching staff from the club offer helpful advice. Lacks the pressure of turning up to a training session where you don't know anyone and have to perform. Run it as a sort of "improve your cricket" idea. And it gives you a chance to look out for the next Graeme Swann or Alistair Cook. And if you threw in some refreshments as PGC suggests it might get a few more sluggers and chuckers along, myself included.

Ah. Many apologies my latinate friends. 'Twas nothing to do with content. Merely a moderator with fat fingers and a careless brain. Please forgive me. ROMANES EUNT DOMUS

ED pubs not selling traditional bar snacks
david_carnell replied to Louisa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For those on a health kick, your humble pork scratching being made up of skin is packed full of collagen and thus protein. Perfect for your post-gym pint and snack combo. It may also contain fat and salt though so don't blame me if you turn into a fat bastard. -
Beer + curry = vomit looking the same. QED.
