  3. We want to get a special cake for an artist friend's 50th birthday which as well as tasting good, should look great as well. We want something really original - any suggestions?
  4. thank, Sman I'd planned to save them to Dropbox if I have no luck with iphoto but not sure how I will resolve the latest problem of iphoto not recognising photos it has already imported...
  5. I need to print some business cards (standard size) with an image of a painting in full colour on one side, and texton the back - ideally, I'd like to get a set with several different images on them but only need a small run. I may also need postcards or greetings cards. Any recommendations?
  6. I've always imported photos from my iphone with no problems until last week., When I got back from a week's holiday, iphoto would only import photos from the last day, even though all photos were taken in the same way on the iphone (it's a 5S). I've tried several times, then yesterday I took about 30 photos which it imported normally, but then when I connected it again later, it tried to import those same 30 photos again, even though they were already on iphoto. this happened twice. I have restarted the computer and iphone but no luck. I am using iphoto '09 version 8.1.2 (424) on my ancient Mac OS X version 10.6.8 - old, but has always been reliable up til now. Any suggestions?
  7. I am going to Marseille for a week over Easter as it will be a good base for getting around that area of Provence by train and bus. If anyone knows or has been to Marseille recently, I'd be interested to hear recommendations for the best areas of the city to stay in, etc. I plan to book an apartment rather than hotel. Also any other travel tips would be good, especially on art galleries, local villages accessible by public transport etc. Thanks.
  8. Thanks for all the good suggestions which I will bear in mind for the next trip. I've ended up booking a direct train from London to Marseille - it's only 6 and a bit hours and as well as the city itself, will be a good base for day trips to Aix, Arles, Nimes and coastal villages. If anyone has been to Marseille or the local area recently, I'd be interested to hear recommendations for the best areas of the city to stay in, etc. I plan to book an apartment rather than hotel.
  9. I did a brief evening class on 'setting up a simple website' for my paintings/ photography using Wordpress but have now forgotten half the things we were taught- and cannot get the images I've uploaded into a gallery / portfolio format. I'm looking for a bit of inexpensive help- might suit student- Can anyone assist?
  10. I'm planning to go away to Europe for a few days around Easter and want to go by train- any recommendations on less well known cities with good modern art galleries which are fairly easily accessible from London? I love Amsterdam, Paris, Venice, Nice etc but want to find somewhere new. happy to travel for several hours to get there, or to break the journey en route....
  11. Hello, local residents with cats,or anyone know knows a cat owner in the area, You may have already heard about this, but there is a really sick person/people who mutilating and killing cats ? over 50 around Croydon and Thornton heath and now 2 have been found in Pellatt road SE22. They are suggesting keeping your cats inside at night at least. Please pass the message on to anyone you know who also has a cat, thanks. Here is the info ? it is pretty horrific. http://www.southwarknews.co.uk/news/cat-ripper-strikes-in-dulwich-as-two-pets-found-mutilated/ And here is the link to the petition to get the police to take the matter seriously - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/889/712/106/urge-the-south-london-police-to-take-urgent-action-to-stop-a-cat-killer/?taf_id=17792598&cid=fb_na
  12. We need to replace all our sash windows and need the new ones to be double glazed, sealed, ready painted. Recommendations for good companies wanted. P.S just realised there is already a good thread on this subject http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1052558,1629814#msg-1629814 so I'll check all those recommendations out
  13. We showed music photography a couple of years ago and had a lot of visitors and several quite high priced sales. Prints were limited and around A3 in size, framed. It helped that we had a website listed in the booklet so people could see what was going to be on show. We also publicised it via social media prior to the weekends when it was open. We always made time to chat to anyone who wanted to find out more but did not pester people who just wanted to browse. I'm always surprised by how many artists/hosts do not seem to show any interest in their visitors and continue chatting to their friends! Hope that helps and that you also get some replies from painters, as it sounds like that is what you specialise in.
  14. good - hope you enjoy the programme, ArthurE ! I'm just interested as a long term resident of East Dulwich, wanting to keep our area with its lovely independent shops safe from the chains....
  15. A programme on BBC2 BBC 2 ON WEDNESDAY 20th January called 'The Town That Took on the Taxman' should be of interest to our local independent shop keepers in and around East Dulwich. The local traders of Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons are embarking on a mission to copy the techniques used by their multinational rivals, and to set up a DIY tax avoidance scheme of their very own to help their small independent shops going. lots more info here:- http://fairtaxtown.com/
  16. thanks, Lollipop. I like the way the cursor turns into a little mouse on their website!
  17. Recommendations for pest controller with extra long ladder for access to a 3rd floor gutter/roof cavity needed please. We have a squirrel which is making loads of scratching noise in the cavity and is about to get into our house so we need someone to come and get it out and block up the entrance.
  18. Don't worry, Mason - I've answered my own question - Spacehive looks suitable, and was also recommded by our PR firm. https://www.spacehive.com/Home/HowItWorks
  19. We are looking into the idea of crowdfunding for the next stage of an infrastructure design development to take it to the planning stage - does anyone have any experience of using crowdfunding in relation to building projects etc? Any suggestions of where to start would be really helpful, thanks.
  20. thanks so much to everyone who has taken time to add their recommendations, some of which we already knew and some which are new to us. Hopefully this thread will also be useful to other people too.
  21. Thanks for the latest suggestions. Any more restaurant recommendations?
  22. thanks for the suggestions so far. We love Shakespeare and co (hope it hasn't changed in the past few years?) and also Sainte Chapelle - the other suggestions are new to us and all are good ideas, thanks - keep suggestions coming in!
  23. 6 of us are going to Paris this coming Wednesday til Sunday and although we have stayed in the city countless times, haven?t been for about the last 4 years so we are out of touch with nice restaurants / new places to go etc. We are staying in Ave Parmentier, 11th arrondissement but will be going all over the place. 2 of our group have been travelling for the last year and this will be their first stop back in Europe, so we'd be interested in anything uniquely French, too. We are interested in art/design/markets/restaurants etc - looking for anything that would appeal to which would appeal to textile artists, painters and architects eg lesser known galleries, good new markets/shops/areas?? Also any recommendations for restaurants - nothing too expensive or swanky unless it is really special - we would prefer more interesting / off the wall!!
  24. My printer has broken beyond repair - any recommendations of an A4 (or A3) printer which will print good photo quality and art/graphics images? I always used to use Epsom, then the one which just broke was a Brother MFC J591 0DW.
  25. We are 3 x couples going to Paris in October for 4 nights withut the kids, looking for a mid range priced hotel with character (no chains, nothing bland!! We like quirky/ arty/ contemporary design) ideally in either the Latin quarter or Marais. I've always stayed in budget ones in those areas before but we are splashing out this time- any recommendations, anyone?
