Who owns....(The old wood yard on Barry Road)?
dbboy replied to woofmarkthedog's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Are you suggesting going over the top to get in, retrieve and extricate it? -
It is reported that it closed in 1987. See http://homepage.ntlworld.com/oliver.merrington/lidos/lidos1closed.htm#_Toc2087989

The Kings Arms as it was closed and was redeveloped as the block of flats as it is now. The open air swimming baths was run by Southwark Council who decided to close it, it was filled in and became the green space it is now. The centre of the fountain I think is still there.

James, The whole length of Rye Lane requires attention, it's not just a case of filling in potholes, it requires a FULL resurfacing. If you look at the centre of the road that's where the damage is. No idea what has caused it, it may be the winter, but I can guess at something else. Public funds should be used appropriately and not for what ineffect is a cosmetic job on the Nigel Road junction replacing what seemed to ne a useable road with "pretty" looking bricks to slow down traffic onto a side turning, width restrictions and reshaping the jumction. This causes traffic chaos as a consequence in the morning. PUBLIC funds should be better used for where the needs really exist. Is this work being done as it's the end of the financial year and the Council need to maximise it's spend. The councillors who signed off the work and Council Officers who recommended this to be done should be held to account and then fired on the spot.

Rye Lane could do with urgent resurfacing as it has potholes its entire length in the middle of the road.
-
James, Could you and your fellow councillors investigate the large number of potholes on Rye Lane, for which the road requires re-surfacing. Would be a good investment of funds. with thanks

Have you tried Caravaggio on Camberwell Church Street, Excellent coffee.

ditto Caprini School

Seems you and your councillor chums know how to WASTE money and cause distruption by narrowing the road and slowing down traffic. I thought the purpose of roads was to encourage the flow of traffic. Reminds me of the mess being made to the junction of Nigel Road and Rye Lane, but then never mind about the inconvienience caused to joe public. Sorry for the rant, but can't see the benefits of such changes.

From the descriptions it sounds like in the early 1900's Peckham was quite a prosperous area which might explain why Austin's survived so long?? It is very interesting when all this history comes to light nearly a 100 years later, really fasinacting. I remember the days of Jones and Higgins and have been told that on a Saturday morning the Lane would see the pavements four abreast with shoppers.

Getting to Reading (from East Dulwich)
dbboy replied to Fuschia's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
You could go to Waterloo and take the train direct to Reading, what you loose in time on the journey from Waterloo roughly equates to the length of ot time it takes getting to Paddington. Have had to do this journey several times in 2009 and will need to repeat it a number of more times throughout 2010. -
Witnesses to large pothole at jnct Nigel Rd & Peckham Rye
dbboy replied to TimMac's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Funny that, how the hole got filled in so quickly AFTER the accident. I wonder if the roadworks at the junction of Nigel Road and Peckham Rye were contributary factors? The Council seem to be experts at wasting money on things that don't need doing like changing that particular junction but unable to focus on the key things which need attention. Hope you make a speedy recovery, good luck with your claim and take them for all you can. -
It'll be interesting to see how the Sea Master evolves and if it is an off shoot of teh Se Cow which is expensive in comparison to other chippies. Will certainly create competition for the Dolphin Fish Bar up the road and could actually finish it off), they say fish and chops are thriving in this recession and also great for Forest Hill Road.

Perhaps the councillors can answer this one???????????????but then maybe not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet more road works on Forest Hill Roads
dbboy replied to dbboy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why can't works be scheduled so we don't suffer one set of temporary lights which then are removed and a week later return. Can't it all be done in one go. I thought all works needed a permit from the Council and how comes this afternoon amd evening there were NO workman but a BLOODY big hole dug by Thames Water and that just needed filling in, so the temp lights could go and traffic return to NORMAL. -

When are the "temporary" permanent traffic lights at the junction of Forest Hill Road/Colyton Road going to be removed and the zebra crossing re-introduced which was removed because of the Thames Water works? -

What is concerning and similar to the "Kings Arms" junction, although on a smaller scale is the 4 way traffic signals, with predestrian use not in operation -
If you have not yet had the pleasure and inconvenience today roadworks are in place at the junction with Colyton Road and Forest Hill Road with 4 way traffic signals.

dbboy replied to Laurie Eggleston's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
sfgutmann, tj and vagueman lets wait and see what the outcome of tfl's decision is?? Although you don't like the opinion I'm expressing as it happens to oppose to your own, everyone is entitled to express an opinion, this is a public forum and that's exactly what i'm doing, I won't pipe down as you would like but will continue to state facts. -

63 Bus route extension to Honor Oak Park Station

East Dulwich has a plethora of buses along Lorpship Lane going into town, 37, 484 and there are three railway stations, East, West and North Dulwich railway stations plus Herne Hill and Peckham Rye not far away either. All round a pretty good choice compared to other areas of south east London. P12 from Peckham Rye/Heaton Arms goes to Honor Oak Park although a bit of a longer route. Sometimes you need to crack eggs!!! -

I personally would > like to see the 63 extended and have signed the > petition. Thank you to everyone who has raised > this issue, I hope you succeed. Unlikely to be an issue as if the intention is to travel from Honor Oak Park station as its very probable Oyster PAYG would be used for the forward or return journey. The issue of sorting out traffic issues at cabrini school is not going to work without police intervention. Parents park up both sides of Forest Hill Road, into Honor Oak Road and the sround the bend into Honor Oak Park, on the pavements plus the bottom of Netherby and Canonbie Roads causing traffic chaos especially in term time. This in turn delays both buses and cars trying to proceed along these routes. Adding a further or extending a current bus route will further compound the congestion. The roads were not desighed for this level of traffic. Lets stick with what we've got (which in effect is not a bad service with two bus routes serving this stretch of road. -

All you need to do is walk from Forest Hill Tavern (Forest Hill Road), or the first bus stop in Woodvale to Brenchley Gardens, it takes a few minutes either way even with kids and heavy bags.
