  1. Forest Hill is a boys school (who wear black) and the Kingsdale uniform is also all black - so it's neither of those. Sounds horrible, please try to identify the uniform and inform the relevant school so that those responsible can be punished.
  2. Aske's (mixed) and Prendergast Hilly Fields (girls) are extremely hard to get into unless they have a sibling there - even if your child is musical, both schools have hundreds of applicants. In the past most children from Fairlawn went to either Sydenham (girls) or Forest Hill Boys. Last September 14 Fairlawn children went to Kingsdale (mixed) and I believe it will be even more popular this year.
  3. My daughter is in year 7 at Kingsdale and is doing very well. They have small tutor groups for English and Maths and she is flourishing. She has played netball for the school and performed in a choir, solo and in ensembles. I do not believe bullying is any more of a problem there than at other secondary schools. I have always witnessed the children arriving and leaving school very sensibly. Their GCSE results continue to improve in leaps and bounds (can be found on the BBC Eduction website).
  4. There is a brownie group which meets at Horniman School but they have a waiting list. Please PM me if you would like contact details for Brown Owl.
  5. There is a small teaching pool which is lovely and warm for little ones, the 25m one is colder but ok. It has quite a large car park where there are usually spaces, you can also park on the road. Adequate changing facilities (though could be a bit cleaner and usually only one or two of the three showers work).

    New Year's Eve

The Thomas More Club normally have a band on new years eve. You don't have to be Irish and it's nice and friendly. Opposite John Barnett shoeshop on Lordship Lane. You don't have to be a member but entrance is usually about ?5.
  7. 2fe means two form entry - two classes of thirty (so a yearly intake of sixty children) 3fe therefore means 90 places for reception children per year.

    Gunrush

I've only just watched this programme starring Timothy Spall - it was on a couple of Sundays ago. Did anyone else notice that the girls school at the beginning was Harris East Dulwich and the supermarket where his daughter was shot was Londis on Lordship Lane (and he'd parked his car in Northcross Road). The estate where the hoodies lived was the Aylesbury and the Heygate.
  9. Hi my daughter will also be going to Kingsdale in September (along with 11 others from Fairlawn). I have seen Kingsdale children waiting at the 363 bus stop on Forest Hill Road - where do they get off? Do they go up to Crystal Palace and then walk down or swop buses near the Harvester. There doesn't seem to be any way of not having a long walk at the other end. I've heard the buses are very full in the mornings - at what time should she leave? Any advice gratefully received.
  10. Loved the fire breathing dragon - how fab was that!
