  1. I was dismayed to find my post on my trip to see the damage caused in Lordship Lane this morning deleted by the Administrator! Is this some sort of censorship, where only the Administrator can post comments about the disturbances in East Dulwich? I had a few valid points to make about what i saw and some safety advise for the community also. So i would like to know if you are restricting local residents from talking about what is genuinely happening in their area and ultimately safe advise for people to heed.
  2. I'm totally devastated this morning as i walked the dog along Lordship Lane and other parts of Dulwich/Peckham. The scene looks like something out of a war zone! Tesco Metro looted and ransacked and set alight as well as shops along Lordship Lane heading to East Dulwich Station, the station has been closed. All buses suspended. I saw on television that its rioting over London indiscriminately. Leafy suburbs of Hampstead, Ealing, Richmond, Clapham, Camden, Kingston, Croydon all devastated and ablaze. No Police to be seen anywhere. I just raced home with tears in my eyes, as our communities are being trashed, looted and pillaged and any Authority seems to be impotent and lacking. I pray no-one gets fatally injured. Please all be aware and take care coming home from work in the night.
  3. Thankyou for the post and alerting everyone. Hope you are o.k, as it is not a nice experience to be mugged - you should report all details to the police,so they have a record incase the thief turns up again. Well unfortunately our streets are slowly becoming muggers paradise, badly lit, no police presence. Everyone must be vigilant especially outside Train Stations.
  4. Has anybody been watching the Channel 4 programme '24 hours in A&E'? It follows the daily life at Kings College A&E department over 24 hours. I could'nt believe the sort of dregs of the erath people that are treated there, byt that i mean, drug addicts, alcoholics, hooligans. All of them wasting NHS funds - OUR taxpayers funds.... i really felt sorry for those dedicated Doctors/Nurses/Porters that have to deal with all those low-life scum everyday. There really is a case for all these self-inflicted ailments they come in with (dragged in with, by the Police mostly...)- should be made to pay for the medical treatment given - if its possible!. The abuse and violent threats the Staff have to put up with there on a daily basis is very sad and unfortunately symptomatic of some parts of our society. Unfortunately Kings Hospital is the main reception point for certain areas all around East Dulwich/Dulwich Central/Village, which have higher crime figures, especially when it comes to stabbings. It receives the highest stabbing victims of any Hospital in Europe apparently! That was a shocking and sad fact. Now i know where some of our NHS funds are wasted on..!
  5. Thats a terrible thing to happen, but alas, not uncommon. If i was a 6ft man, sprint runner and martial arts expert , i would hesitate at taking on some of these hooded thugs wandering around! I'm a 5ft dumpy round disabled woman, so no use in giving chase....! I see those young hooded boys (and girls) on bikes observing potential victims walking across parks/streets , especially at night time. They have no morals, parental guidance, sense of community - the ones caught commiting crime should be thrown into boot camp - American style, then paraded around their local area with a signboard attached to them. Of course thats not going to happen, because we have too many lily-livered do-gooders around, politicians/magistrates who say we should respect their human rights....the thing is , they are'nt human!. Stay safe and keep eyes peeled at all times.
  6. Thanks for all the tips! I might just try out some of them, i did'nt even realise they done a moth spray.
  7. Does anyone know of an effective way of getting rid of clothes moths - they've eaten a lovely cardigan of mine (again) and now there seems to be a plague of them flying all over the house!
  8. I'm not sure what was wrong with her,but she was in the dairy aisle holding a pot of yogurt - maybe Sainsburys did'nt stock what she was after, but she was'nt very happy bunny!
  9. I was contemplating a lovely day out on Saturday, but first decided to pop into Sainsburys on Dog Kennel Hill in the morning to stock up on provisions. When i got there there was a lot of shouting and screaming from this one woman, who was screaming abuse at anyone who was near her, the poor shop assistants did'nt know what to do, and everyone else did'nt know where to look, finally the Manager (i think) came and with security and escorted her out the store. Did anyone know what was her problem or had any similar incidents like that?
  10. I saw an accident on Friday involving a cyclist and lorry driver - the cyclist, poor thing was knocked aside by this huge skip lorry racing along. Luckily it was non-fatal. I seem to be encountering more and more accidents involving pedestrians/cyclists/motorists and wondering whether its just our roads getting busier every year or people just becoming more blase' about safety these days?
  11. I woke up this morning to find that my big planter pot outside my front door had disappeared! it was big and heavy, filled up with a Yucca plant and did'nt seem like something anyone would want to steal - but they did....they must have ahad a van or large car to have taken it in, unless they lived locally. I'm now wondering whether i should nail and chain down everything in my small front garden! So everyone beware of plant thieves...
  12. I've had door knocking and bell ringing on my door before,it happened over a space of a month then stopped suddenly...I did did found out that it was a bunch of pesky little scoolkids playing 'knock down ginger' n peoples doors, as they done the same tomy neighbour and she spotted them. I live along a route that people pass through so i guess can expect things like that to happen - but next time i'll be ready and waiting....!
  13. Just a warning to everyone to be very careful when you buy second hand furniture. A few weeks a go i bought a leather sofabed and a victorian cast iron bed base (without mattress, all bought inexpensively secondhand and good quality. Had it delivered and setup etc. I spent the first few nights on my itching and scratching, in the mornings i'd wake up with red bite marks across my neck and legs. I did'nt realise what the cause could be until it clicked that i'd just got a bed/sofa. To cut a long (nightmarish) story short, i called in the Pest Control experts and they confirmed it was a infestation of bedbugs! i was totally shocked and very upset. They treated the sofa/bed and the whole bedroom by sealing and steaming the whole room to 70 degrees!.I had to leave the house for a week and move in with a friend till it was finished being treated, in all the total cost was ?750.... So what i thought was a bargain secondhand furniture, ended up costing me hundreds of pounds in the end! so to everyone, just be careful and check before you buy (if one can), as to avoid the 2weeks nightmare i just experienced.
  14. Well i found out that in Australia they are treated as pests but largely left alone, same goes for the yellow-crested cockatoo and other parrots that are considered a nuisance there!. I would swap lovely multi-colored parrots flying around for pigeons anyday...: )
  15. I had no ides that Rhododendrons were considered a plague in Scotland! - they are so majestic and the blooms are wonderful, i can understand Knotweed, as that just takes over a garden once established. I know they are starting to cull Grey Squirrels as i saw it on the news a little while back. Its any wonder how these exotic species survive our harsh winter climate.
  16. Yes thats right Canada Geese are all over the place, they grow quite large and heavy (its any wonder they can fly....!) also very noisy, but make excellent intruder alarms and grass cutters : )
  17. I did'nt realise they were regarded as pests, they look and fly so beautifully its a shame they are thinking of culling them. I wonder if there are any other exotic type birds breeding here in London?
  18. I had a pleasant surprise walking home from work the other day, when i heard and saw, noisy squawking green parrot-like birds flying overhead in that lovely little park near Sainsburys in Dog Kennel Hill. They were gorgeous to look at, bright emerald green colour with a rose-red beak and they landed in one of the trees. I was talking to a neighbour and she told me they were ring necked green Parakeets and are now breeding in flocks around the suburbs, including Dulwich and Peckham Rye Parks. Has anyone else seen them in their gardens or area?
  19. I too have had altercations with errant dog owners. Some of them can be quite rude too! i remember a while back seeing a young lad in a jogging outfit with a hoodie on walking a staffordshire bull terrier, he knowingly let the dog foul the pavement near Goose Green school, i asked him to pick it up and he just gave me a stare and a verbal abuse -not detered i pursued him down the street (hoping a police car would come by). He had enough of me heckling him and ran off with his dog! I did report the incident to the council, so atleast it was logged down.
  20. Thanks for the warning, i had no idea the council would actually come down and fine you for sticking up a poster for a yard sale! even more so for lost dogs and cats, local charity jumble sales... i think they been a bit harsh and should have just warned/explained you without a fine - you should point out all those other illegal posters to them and ask them their success rate at imposing fines. If they refuse then request it under the Freedom of Information Act,which they have to reply to within 14 days.
  21. Yes i've seen her too, she also goes into central stations and begs for money with a sob story - once i saw her at London Bridge station and i sat and observed her from a distance, she goes to people her boyfriend beat her up ans she needs money to get home! - i actually waited till she had enough and followed her a short while afterwards , where sge met up with this scraggly looking drug addict 'boyfriend' . No doubt sharing out any proceeds they received from well intentioned commuters!.
  22. I've also had an ongoing problem with those little clothes and rug eating blighters! I tried all sorts of things to get rid of them, mothballs etc - i'm now trying Lavender sprigs tied to rail in wardrobe - hope that works!.
  23. One thing we do know and that is that the Police are not held to account when things go wrong. Its all well saying how many officers have died on duty, but you can balance that with how many people have died in police custody, under questionable circumstances..... and no-one yet has been prosecuted or taken to account for these suspicious deaths. Jean Charles Menezes was a glaringly obvious point, where no-one was deemed responsible for his innocent death, including the Police Commander who gave the order to shoot him, or the Officers that pulled the trigger, or the Intelligence services..... It makes you wonder if we live in a blameless society now, where no-one takes responsibility. Police Officers take on the responsibility of enforcing the law, in some situations they are putting themselves at risk - thats why they are highly paid and they know the risks involved, so its a personal choice. As for kettling, it is a text book tactic that Law enforcement agencies use across the world to 'contain' demonstrators in a specific area so 'civil disobedience' does'nt spread further, it works and i don't think the police are going to abandon it altogether, no-one is saying they have an easy job, they don't.But i think there is a few elements of the police force that are corrupt, unaccountable and unnecessary in this day and age, they are the ones that should be rooted out and thrown out, to make the police more representative of society would also be a good idea, more women and people of other cultures encouraged also. They should also be made to attend charm school....! Hopefully we will reach some sort of a balance and the G20 protests will be some sort of a water shed in Police relations (they did say the same after the Stephen Lawrence enquiry....). But i sadly see this dragging on for a long while yet.
  24. The more i read about the expenses claimed by our governing classes, the more incensed and disgust i become. They now seem to think that 'coming clean' and repaying part of each MP's expenses is going to remedy the situation, it won't and has'nt.... Here i am, a lowly paid part-time worker, having to scrimp and scrap for everything i need ( i have a disability, so theres certain things i'm unable to do). Having to watch while my hard-earned N.I contributions and Income Tax get splashed on multi-milionaire's MP's moats and swimming pools, gardens, second homes and the rest. I wish i could claim expenses for even my travel ticket, but i can't! I really do believe that what our MP's have been doing, knowing fully well that it is truly amoral, they should all be investigated for fraudulent claims. I have already written to our MP Tessa Jowell (the one who did'nt know her husband had paid off her own mortgage with dodgy money....)telling her of my utter disgust at our elected representatives and i urge you all to do so aswell, she cannot ignore her own constituents anger, although alot of them seem to be impervious and oblivious to many things....
  25. I totally agree with all the comments made about our elected representatives swindling us, their voters, out of our hard earned money. What gets me is the cheek of the MP's to call in the Police to investigate the apparent 'leak' - forget about investigating the fraudulent claims of our MP's, our money spent on their lavish lifestyles, lets just find the 'leak'! its incredulous, no wonder people are so disenchanted with the system, and by that i mean from the very top...Our privileged and over pampered Monarchy to out snouts in the trough MP's, our Poilce force (who are servants of the people, and paid for us) who end up beating us up and killing us! its just unbelievable and very sad state of affairs. Sometimes i just feel like packing up and running off to a deserted island! (probably not many left that are habitable!).
