  1. Yes i also agree with many other comments on here, that basic etiquette has gone out the window! its all for oneself these days (you only have to look at our elected representatives and the way they've abuse our hard earned taxpayers money...!). General decency and consideration towards others is all but a nostalgic feeling from a bygone era, maybe someday we can reverse all that, (utopian thinking , i hear you say..).
  2. I got a little gripe....as i'm now getting used to the different buses in the area, i often jump on and off to get to all sorts of places in the borough. What can be really frustrating is some people standing at bus stops, for what can be ages and then when the bus turns up, they start shuffling around in their pockets and handbags looking for their money or buspass...! Please get your tickets ready so no-one has to hang around, especially when its raining...! Anyone else finds this frustrating or similar things get under your skin..?
  3. I'd just like to say that there's a worrying trend on this website, by a few people who seem to think its their exclusive domain to shout others opinions down, giving others short-shrift and hardly adding any wise thoughts or experiences to any debate on here. I myself seem to have been targeted (and a few others) by a small minority of small-minded, 'peep-behind-the-keyboard' types. Sometimes i wonder what they do all day (and night) when they try to pick apart someones opinion. Is'nt that what this site is for? to express one's opinion and not be castigated or ridiculed if someone thinks otherwise. An example being... I'm quite new to this part of town and yet to know all the bus numbers and streets, so accidentally posting a message about and incident i was involved in, adding the wrong bus number, seemed to have been a mortal sin to those few! and does anyone really care what time a posting is uploded onto the site...no! lol!. Its a shame as many others i noticed being bullied and intimidated on here seem to think the same of those few who disrupt and bully others. In fact, my way around that is just not to acknowledge any postings by those few (and we all know who they are....), that seems to really agrravates them into more serial aggressiveness, which i find quite petty and puerile and i actually end up laughing at them thinking the sad, empty lives they must lead!. Also i think the (weak?) Administrator must take a much tougher stance and nip this bullying and insulting of others in the bud, otherwise people will just not longer log on and the site will become a shadow of itself in the future. I enjoy participating in discussions on this site and also like to share with others (in a non-aggressive/open/friendly way) my own thoughts and experiences living in this community and surroundings, so lets keep it that way!. Has anyone got any opinions or experienced similar on this subject?
  4. Thanks for the many messages of support ( and some that were not!). I do actually care about where i choose to live, the people surrounding me, the environment and that if those observations and interactions are posted on here, is'nt that what this site is for? I'm sorry if i sound whiney or matronly to some people but someones got to react to these anti-social behaviour or nothing actually gets done, also to make other people more aware is more important, i got no time for those naysayers and peep behind the curtain type (or should i say peepbehind the p.c keyboard type....). I like to go and challenge people if see wrong doing, i wish i had more courage sometimes as i've also let alot of anti-social things go unchallenged. I thank those people who have commented on here and actually think i was doing the right thing and feel vindicated by your support and wish there were many more people like you, then perhaps the world would be an even better place to live/work/play/bring up your children in.
  5. Since i've only been in the area for a few months now, i tend to notice things (sometimes trivial you may say!) that others may have overlooked or prefer not to notice. One thing i did notice was the amount of dog poo left behind on the streets of Dulwich by dog owners that are unwillng to clean up the mess after their own dogs have pooed on the pavements. I had 2 altercations with dog owners already, one was just this week, when i saw a young man walking his 'status' Mastiff dog on East Dulwich Road, the dog fouled the pavement and the young man did'nt seem in the slightest concerned, i was so incensed at that, that i went up to him and indicated what his dog had just done and told him would'nt it be a sensible thing to clean up after your dog, otherwise don't keep one. Well the abuse that came out of his mouth is unprintable here, calling me a nosey fat c*w and to p*** off was the least expletives of the abuse! I thought to myself, i'm not having that and called the Police and told them what happened, their response was 'You can come and make a report at the local station' - well what use it that? I wanted the young thug to be preosecuted and not allowed to keep a pet if he could'nt look afer it, is;nt that why we have those fines and anti-social behaviour legislation for?. I like to live in a nice, clean and friendly environment, so i think i was doing the right thing to confront those that choose to disregard basic good behaviour, maybe i'm being matronly, am i? i hope not!. I have also many friends who happen to be responsible dog owners, so its really only a few and a minority that seem to think dog fouling is acceptable.

    185

I'm glad i'm not the only one who gets frustrated at numerous buses that display a destination then terminate halfway! Best thing to do is to complain first to driver (although many of the decisions are out of his/her hands), then to the respective bus company and sending a copy to the Mayor's office and TFL. I have'nt had a problem yet with 185 terminating early, as quite new to the area, but in North London where i used to live, there was constant terminations, all of which i made strong complaints about. If one does'nt complain or make a fuss about things, then no-one ver listens and nothing gets done.....so my advice, put pen to paper and complain.
  7. Yes you are right, i should have actually held those litterers to account, but was bit intimidated by them to be honest as they had one of those bull terrier type dogs that looked quite menacing, aswell as the adults themselves!. so no i thought it wise not to say anything just in case they turned on me. In many cases i would'nt have hesitated but i did then and for good reason.
  8. I grimaced when i came across loads of sticky sweets and toffees littering the pavements. I was walking through the East Dulwich Estate and was walking on the pavement side when i trod on a half eaten lollipop, it stuck to the underside of my shoe and i almost went flying when it stuck to the ground like glue! then a few metres away were a trail of sticky strawberry laces. I was intrigued and followed the mess across Dog Kennel Hill and saw a group of young kids and their parents strolling along squabbling about what pic 'n'n mix was best, eating the sweets then spitting them out! I thought that was disgusting and had a good mind to tell off the parents who did'nt seem in the slightest concerned the sticky mess they were leaving behind, littering our environment.
  9. Hey good for you to stick up for yourself on the bus! i did exactly the same and all i got was abuse back but persevered with my complaint to the bus conductor. If more people were bit more braver and reclaim out streets and buses back then a better society we would be. I'm fed-up with the other moaning minnies and P.C crowd whose only reaction is inertia and tut tutting - do something about it if you want results....!
  10. Thanks for all messages of support! I sometimes wonder what the world is coming to when some people seem to accept the behaviour of these kids, no wonder we have so much trouble and storing more up for the future...... I have now thankfully recovered from that experience and do not travel between 3-4 on buses now! especially the 36 and 436...but my ankle has'nt! i'm still hobbling around like a hobo but its on the mend....!
  11. It was yesterday afternoon and i decided to take the number 436 from Camberwell to Peckham for a change of shopping experience, well i got more than i bargained for! i Boared the bus with my trolley and as it was around 3.30pm it was full of schoolkids. I asked one of them sitting downstairs if i could have the seat for the disabled as i had a trolley and a swollen ankle. Well the little blighter turned and said to me 'no chance you old cow' , well i thought to myself charming! i'm in my early 30's but i guess thats old for a 11year old... i said to him that i had a good mind to clip him round his earhole for his abusive language, he retorted back ' try it and i'l have you for GBH you old bag'. Everyone on the bus just looked the other way as if it was normal behaviour. and his fellow schoolkids joined in the abuse. I told him i've never been insulted by a minor in all my life, he just shot back with 'if you don't shutup then i'll insult you even more'!. I then marched up to the bus conductor and demanded the bus be stopped and the cheeky buggers kicked off for abusive language, i was traumatised by the whole episode. The bus conductor just told me to sit down and live with it and it was normal behaviour by the kids at this time of day!. Well i got off the bus next stop and walked (more like hobbled on my bad ankle) to Peckham and thought to myself that'll be the last time i get on that bus at that time again!. Has anyone else had such bad altercations with unruly kids on the bus before?

  13. I'm still trembling after my encounter at Sainsburys! i'm not going shopping there in the night until it gets lighter in the summer. I mentioned it to a few neighbours and friends and it seems that everyone has a rat story to tell...theres more rats then people now apparently and yes i believe one is no more than a few feetaway from a huge one. My friend ad told me a stry of how she got chased by a colony of those huge buggers near the Camden Canal where she went jogging, they chased her for half a mile down the footpath!. I never realised they could grow so big, about the size of a cat some of them, even the cats are frightened of them! i have another friend in Tottenham and along the high street on the green, in full view of shoppers they huge ones emerge from underground and take on the local cats, who come off much worse she told me.
  14. Yes i believe it had something to do with the vice squad and counterfeiting operations, not sure if they were loking for human trafficking of knockoff dvds, but a friend of mine lives nearby and thats what a neighbour had told her.

    chickens

I'd love to get a couple of chickens and keep them as my source of protein, both for their eggs and themselves eventually...but i've only got a small patio and i think they need a bigger space to flap around. My mother-in-law had a whole coop of them in a shed and used to bring one out every sunday for lunch!. I'n not sure if i could ever throttle one for my lunch, i'll leave that to the Hubby!
  16. I had the shock and fright of my life when i went to visit sainsburys last night, i took my trolley from outside and a huge rat lurched towards me, i screamed and fled for my life as it was a nasty big bugger and i looked round thinking it was chasing me, all scruffy and grey with big yellow teeth. If i had been with a small child, it could easily have taken down that child. I'm really concerned now as i know theres a nursery closeby... Have anyone else experienced any rats in the area (the rodent types that is!....)? Poppy
