former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
keane replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
So will it be removed or not? (dog mess) Re bulge classes - you can't keep expecting already over stretched and small primaries with zero outside space to keep taking bulges. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
keane replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James -how can councillors be saying the demand for primary school places took them by suprise? Primary schools were forced to have bulge classes 3 years ago & the same thing was said then. Heber had one along with the other local primaries the knock on effect is an ever smaller catchment area - it's now tiny & siblings of the 90 strong bulge year come through meaning even less places for new children - why does no one think this through? Bulge classes are short term emergency fixes not long term solutions. That more bulges are happening when a new school was clearly needed years ago is laughable. Will we have the same problem now with our children approaching secondary? We are on the edge of the charter approximate area but my child in year 5 may not get a place even though its our nearest school & he could walk there - so now the whole headache starts again. & on a separate topic - the length of crystal palace road from lordship lane down to Heber road is yet again covered in dog mess, same offenders, same dogs, same locations, fresh poo every day. -
Labelling clothes/items for preschool
keane replied to Katiesa's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just buy an indelible label pen and put the name on the labels that are already in the clothes - much easier than sewing on labels, I've always done this as is quick & I hate sewing! -
Not necessarily maybe they are just going to have a more visible patrol re enforcing dog mess pick up? Or maybe they are going to have a dog free section like in Peckham rye? I don't think it looks like they know - I would assume that is why they trying to do a survey. But I don't hold with conspiracy theories about non dog owners being encouraged to do the survey - it's been on the boards & website & given out & posted on here for anyone to take part in. I saw it on a board outside court lane entrance.
-
None of the state schools round here have playing fields only the private ones. I think Harris did want to use Peckham rye for sport which to me seems like a good idea at certain times of the week - I understood that the reason it hadnt happened was because residents had complained about the school Doing this though this information may be incorrect. I hope it is incorrect as it would seem churlish to not allow a school opposite a field to use it for some PE lessons - and we wouldn't want to discrimate against young people as well as dogs surely?!
-
Er no, it wasnt too 'subtle.' Irrelevant to mention tax -does for example a lower tax payer than you like a teaching assistant or auxiliary nurse or similar have less right to enjoy the parks because they pay less tax than a 'high tax payer?' I think it's crazy if the council can't carry out a survey without people getting hysterical about banning dogs - no one has ever suggested this. Surely the council are just looking at what the problems are for people who use the parks dog owners & non dog owners etc and maybe they will be more visible about enforcing picking up dog mess etc which surely would make everyone happier apart from the minority of dog owners who don't control their dogs or pick up their poo. I don't see that anyone who is responsible has anything to worry about. And, yes I do like dogs.

was Haerton ever a child or did he/she emerge into the world as a fully grown adult therefore skipping being a child?! The notice to take part in the survey was on the boards at all the gates, not just the playground. No one has ever suggested banning dogs. The survey may not be worded very well but the whole thing starts off with 'we welcome dogs in Southwark Parks' doesn't sound like anyone is proposing banning dogs in parks which would be nonsense. Just for all dog owners to pick up poo & keep dogs on lead or off lead in the designated areas?

Hi all - I have the same problem, coupled with fact that our baby is growing out of her rearward facing seat at 10 months but we need to wait to find decent second hand next stage seat & we are driving to Ireland on Friday! If Gooders79 doesn't take you up on mirror borrowing do u think I might be able to borrow it for 10 days? We are back on sep 3rd & we live in east Dulwich, no worries if not I can have a hunt round this week & see if I can find similar, K.

It wasnt just on the forum - this is the wording from Southwarks website see below: & it was on park notice boards. Don't know whether it was also given out etc: Dogs in parks We want you to have your say Southwark Council welcomes responsible dog owners and their dogs to our parks and open spaces. Unfortunately incidents relating to dogs have been reported, and we want to address this. We think that irresponsible dog owners are in the minority, but they are costing the tax payer money spent on clearing up dog fouling, and affecting the enjoyment of some visitors to our parks. Survey 2013 At this year's Friends Conference we asked members of the public what they thought the issues were. We have used their suggestions to create an online survey about dogs in parks. Please fill it in to let us know your views, by the deadline of 16 September 2013. This is your chance to give us your point of view, which we will use to create a report and will influence any action we might take. What the council does now Additional to our park by-laws, we also have dog related by-laws which specify where dogs must be kept on leads and dog prohibited areas The Dog (Fouling of Land) Act 1996 applies to all public areas in the country, and allows councils to issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to owners who do not clean up after their dog. Park Liaison Officers patrol our parks and can issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) for offences, including dog fouling Southwark has two FIDO machines, which clean up dog fouling in all of our parks across the borough. Many of our medium and large parks have designated "no dogs" areas Dog waste bags are free from Southwark?s libraries and park offices. We have 316 dog waste bins, and are spreading the word that dog waste can now be disposed of in litter bins too The council holds some dog events, dog shows and supplies tool kits. At some events we also offer free microchipping. You can find information on our website about responsible dog ownership We have a Dog Action Group, who meet regularly and work with the Police, Battersea Dogs Home and the RSPCA A Dog Control Order (DCO) is in place at One Tree Hill. Due to issues with people taking large numbers of dogs into this nature reserve, handlers are now limited to four dogs at one time. Continue reading for more information about DCOs Dog Control Orders (DCOs) There are four different types of DCO that can be introduced: Dogs must be placed on a lead when asked to by an authorised officer Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times Dogs are not allowed in a specified area at any time Restriction on number of dogs in a specified area DCOs give authorised council officers the power to issue Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to an owner who does not comply with the rules of the DCO The council cannot introduce a DCO without extensive consultation, as set out by the government Dog fouling and health risk Dog fouling is not just unpleasent, it can also be dangerous. Accidental contact with dog faeces can make you unwell. Toxocara canis (Roundworm) is carried by infected dogs and can cause blindness in humans. The infection is most common in small children, who are more likely to touch dog faeces while playing. What happens next? We will analyse the results of the survey, and produce a report with recommendations of what actions should be taken. Please make sure you are on our mailing list to receive updates on this project. To join the project mailing list, if you have any questions, or if you would like a paper copy of the survey, please contact [email protected] Bookmark this page Google Delicious

Would you travel with 6 month old baby to Africa?
keane replied to aqua-anya's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I think I would be worried about the risk with 6 month old babies as they are still so tiny & have immature immune systems. I think I would see if any of the relatives could come here as I think I would be stressing & also they can't tell us how they feel. Good luck with whatever u decide! K -
I use dulwich park daily, I don't have a dog. I like dogs and wouldn't want to see them banned. However,I do find dog fouling in dulwich park a problem and have often gone to lay out a picnic blanket on grass and discoverd dog poo which should have been picked up. I do think that dogs should be on the lead in the designated areas in the last week alone I was sitting in a 'dog on lead area' (on the grass, not near the dog excercise area) with my 9 month old baby sitting on a blanket and a quite large dog came bounding over and knocked her over and was on top of her - she was terrified and so was I as I didn't know if the dog was going to bite her. I shooed the dog off and picked her up as fast as I could and the owner came walking over smiling & saying "he's only a puppy" - maybe, but he should have been on a lead and shouldn't be allowed to run and jump on sitting babies. You only have to walk around the park and look down to see there is a lot of dog mess that shouldn't be there (not fox poo I know the difference) I have filled out the survey as I saw it on the notice board and I haven't said that I think dogs should be banned as that is ludicrous, I have just said I think they need to be on lead where it says and off where it doesn't and that poo needs to be picked up/enforced. I do think the small dog free area works well in Peckham rye for those with small children who want to sit away from dogs or possible dog mess - but not sure if this is an option for dulwich park?

What about when you are a pedestrian crossing on the green man at a busy junction and a cyclist completely ignores the red light and whizzes through nearly knocking you and your children over as you try and follow the rules and cross the road safely. This has happened to me a lot.

Scam not scan!
-
I can vouch for this - report it no matter how pointless it may seem at the time - we got ripped off by a scan merchant earlier in the year for Justin Beiber tickets for my 9 year olds b day to the tune of ?300, spent ages reporting it to police & fraud line etc & felt angry & frustrated then the other day out of blue got a call from police who have had other reports about similar scam and they think they have matched up details to one bank acc and may have a suspect - so further down the line there is a SLIM chance we may get our money back or at least see the toe rag caught...

With my first baby my partner said afterwards that he hadnt believed it was possible for a human to produce such extreme sounds unlike anything he had heard before or since (I had been in labour 27 hours and think I was doing some kind of bellowing cow noise,) then in one of my lowest moments the midwife cheerfully told him that my anus was 'flowering' nothing has ever sounded so distressing! After an emergency forceps & traumatic final delivery of a 10lb 4 baby (yes really) I knew that any future births would be by c-section and my other two certainly were!!

Eczema, Skin Allergies, Hydroxyzine & Toddlers
keane replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I am wondering if it might be worth asking your Gp if they can get u an urgent appointment with dr Higgins at Kings? She has been there for years & I found her very helpful with my son when he was bad. Or you could phone kings dermatology dept & see if she does any private work & pay for a one off consultation but then try and get put back on her nhs list? Might be worth a go. -
Eczema, Skin Allergies, Hydroxyzine & Toddlers
keane replied to GinaG3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
My eldest had severe eczema as a baby until about 4 then he gradually outgrew it which was lucky for him tho recently at age 9 it has started to come back a bit. I remember when he was smaller the constant cycle of scratching and discomfort and creams then starting all over again - and trying to find the 'reason' was so tiring. I found dr Elizabeth Higgins the head of the dermatology unit at kings very helpful u can get a referral to her through your Gp. I ended up on a regime of low dose steroid and epaderm or pure potion which u can get online from a little company in Brighton & seemed to work well. Currently I'm using the dermalex cream from chemist on northcross rd which seems better than most of the other emollients I've tried but comes in a tube rather than a tub so doesn't last as long. I also did dairy free for a while with him as he was worse when having lots of dairy but obviously that's different for everyone - hope it improves soon -the heat must be difficult at the moment.. -

Stolen handbag in The Bishop Saturday 8th June
keane replied to stephanieod15's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There was also a pickpocket in the new Gails bakery the other day he sat down next to a woman & her daughter and got his hand into the mothers handbag & was in the process of removing the bag or wallet bit the daughter yelled & he ran out of the shop & dropped it. The staff were reluctant to phone the police but the woman whose bag it was insisted that they call them to at least give a description. will all have to be extra careful as seems like a little spate of bag/pick pocketing going on at the mo.
