  1. Thanks very much for all your thoughts - I agree with most of them! At the moment we're very much at the ideas stage still which is why I was after opinions from the people who are most likely to use the place before we decide on a scheme. We've certainly been looking at comfort, wood and Farrow and Ball options as well as some wacky ones for the garden area you'll be pleased to hear but you'll have to wait and see... I wouldn't worry about drunken behaviour etc. - the alcohol licence is only til 10.30pm at present so you'd have to work quickly! (That's not a challenge btw). Ellie
  2. I've been asked to help the owner of Mon Petit Chou on Lordship Lane to come up with some suggestions for redesigning Mon Petit Chou now that it has been granted an A3 restaurant and alcohol license. I'm very interested to hear the opinions of locals as to how it could improve or what you would like to see on Lordship Lane in the way of eateries. I think it's a fantastic coffee shop, but how do we turn that into a great evening venue? What would make you come for a coffee or a glass of wine if you don't already do so? All views are welcome! 4. The Herne because it's my local and I might actually turn up this time
  5. Me too and I tried to buy the house next door. Let's hope the same fate doesn't befall East Dulwich Grove as befell Peckham Lodge which was demolished (due to subsidence??????!!!) to make way for flats more suitable to the Costa Del Sol than lovely Piermont Green
  6. As a former estate agent, with former (greedy) colleagues who defected to join Foxtons, I absolutely deplore their aggressive, bully-boy tactics. They clearly intend to push some of the smaller agents out of business locally purely by virtue of their flashy ways, cars, flower arrangements, limestone flooring etc etc. Personally, I resent being sent no less than 7 letters urging me to sell my home (incorrectly addressed and titled) for 0%. I hope once this once in a lifetime offer expires the good people of East Dulwich boycott Foxtons and force them to return to SW London where they belong taking their garish furniture with them. Still anyone who dares describe Dulwich Village as SE15 can't be all bad...
  7. I always liked it when I lived in Peckham. I would recommend booking at peak times as it does get very packed at weekends. We nicknamed it the "rom-com" restaurant as it's perfect for holding hands accross a very intimately small table!
  8. I think a much better location is the area of wasteland just south of the "circus" formally planted section of the park then we could look out and admire the new school to be built opposite! But I guess it's too late now. It looks, in style, pretty much like the cafe at Peckham Pulse - PLEASE lets hope it's not run by those people!

    Great bookshop

Not quite as phallic as the life sized self-sculptures he's deposited all around the Hayward Gallery (the one on Waterloo Bridge is pretty detailed and well worth a second look!) Bellenden Road certainly rocks and Review is a great bookshop
  10. I can't understand why they've built the new cafe next to the car park and the recycling area? It's almost as though they went out of their way to find the most unattractive spot in the whole park!
  11. Well I'm glad you didn't suggest we wear name badges cos I'm certainly not wandering around Dulwich Park with Dungdag stuck to my chest! think I need to change my signin...
  12. Sounds like a great plan - but how do we recognise one another a forumites?
  13. Thanks TimJM. perhaps I couldn't get my emails through because Sothwark's inboxes were full of complaints. It's good to hear they've extended the deadline and I agree with your comments.
  14. I've lived in and around East Dulwich for 20 years since I came to study at Goldsmiths' College. In that time I've seen East Dulwich, Peckham and Camberwell go up, down and up again. I don't really think East Dulwich is any more poncey than is was in 1987 - I lived on Upland Road just round the corner from a fabulous deli that later closed down and became something like Premiere Plant Hire. Marks and Spensers had a store on Rye Lane in those days and now we've begging for a Simply Food to come to LL. We used to hang out in the Magdala and the Palmerston before they became very run down and then gentrified once again. The only significant changes I've noticed are house prices (I could have bought a flat in Peckham for ?30k in 1987), traffic which is now almost unbearable, but on a more positive note Sainsburys and that North Peckham has changed massively for the better due to huge amounts of government regeneration.
  15. I live very new the proposed school and i've checked out the scheme via the edge campaign. I spent a long time drawing up an offical objection to the plans on the basis of overcrowing and amenity issues but my email bounced three times. Basically, I am very concerned because the deadline for objecting is now past and it was almost as though Southwark Council was refusing to accept any criticism. Before you say I used the wrong email address I tried several including the one on the edge campaign website.
  16. Yes Sean I've never seen Steven Frost look so clean! Actually I almost didn't recognise him because his trademark black eyebrows are turning white like the rest of his hair. Jenny E was shrieking with delight at the opening of the new Sainsbs and definitely not in Oz (yesterday)
  17. Complain to Karolina tomorrow then - in case you didn't know she's the gorgeous blonde. Goodie bag had Starbies mug complete with ribbon, a book on Starbies coffees, a bar of white chocolate (not my fave unfortunately), and some free coffee beans >:D<
  18. In my experience gorgeous guys work behind the counters of different sorts of drinking establishments - namely coffee shops! That's why I frequented Starbucks everyday for 18 months until James left...
  19. Well I saw Steven Frost AND Jenny Eclair TODAY! and I got chatting to Jeremy Bowen in the East Dulwich Deli recently... I wouldn't know what Desree looked like if I fell over her in Champion Grove but I'll never forget that lyric: "I wouldn't like to see a ghost, I'd rather eat a piece of toast" Genius
  20. Hurrah! Sainsburys is open again. I never thought I'd say that. I've refused to shop there since Starbucks closed and have discovered a whole new world of small independent traders out there in East Dulwich. The food market in Northcross Road on Saturday has revolutionised my cooking - I never knew a roast could taste that good. We now have organic fruit and veg delivered by Pretty Trad and I can't remeber how life was without SMBS, East Dulwich Deli, the Cheese block etc. That was until today when curiosity lead me into the new Sainsbs store. Marvelling at the airiness of the sleek new Starbucks, I was immediately drawn in for a soya latte, feeling disloyal and unfaithful to Mon Petit Chou. But I was there solely for research purposes of course until I was spotted by Karolina who came rushing over, kissed me and handed me a presentation goodie bag for returning to the store! That was it - all my good intentions ran away, faster than my shopping trolley span around the shiny new aisles. The guilt, the guilt! I know I shouldn't love Sainsburys but I do. Confession over.
  21. The only thing I dislike about BMC is that you can't move for Mummies and their oversized buggies in there!
  22. Apologies for the smoothie - don't like them myself - will have a word with Kos!
  23. Would love to know if Anterior Trading is available for rent -I'm still thinking about opening up a toy shop for all those mummies wih their oversized buggies. To go back to the original subject of this thread - I can't believe no-one has pointed out that Mon Petit Chou is the best coffee shop in the area (and possibly in the whole of London). Can't get enough of that place. Soya Latte is second to none and the pastries.....completely delicious.
  24. When you have a moment Bill I'd really appreciate it if you could come and have a look at my eco-site at the bottom of Peckham Rye. The plot is exactly the same size as yours and we're planning two eco houses.
  25. Always hated the Plough - inde pub with or without gastro food and prices gets my vote. Oh - and don't dis the music at the Bishop!
