  1. The hype says it's the new generation in search engines but most commentators say although useful it won't replace Google yet. I see they've taken it down now pending tonight's official launch in the US. The link gives some more info and there's a introductory tutorial at www.wolframalpha.com http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23692654-details/Is+Wolfram+Alpha+the+new+answer+to+Google/article.do
  2. Have tried it but got some weird responses. Maybe I'm too used to Google.
  3. Is this code for dogging? Fresh meat... put my hands on anything... Turkish
  4. No comment on any of the above
  5. Sorry to moan but isn't this two sentences Mikecg?
  6. Don't normally like to recommend hotels etc because it can be subjective. However have a look at the Hotel de Vigny by the Arc de Triomphe/Champs-Elysees. Part of the Relais & Chateaux group which guarantees excellent food. Not cheap but ideal for a special occasion http://www.hoteldevigny.com/
  7. Let's keep a sense of proportion here. As I understand it any virus or bacterium can mutate with dire consequences. However as the BBC reports (midnight May 5): "There are now 23 cases in England and four in Scotland, the DoH said. The tally in London has reached 13, according to NHS London." Twenty seven cases in a population of 60 million or more is not a pandemic. My daughter has more cases of nits in her classroom than this on a monthly basis.

Yes, schools and public places will rightly close as a precaution. Interesting though that all schools named so far are fee-paying. If you accept the King's Shilling ...

Hello all. I'm the one that Sean reacted to yesterday. It's me who should be apologising. It was my first post (although I've registered previously and not specifically for that thread) and my intention was to have some fun. It was a wind up. I'm sorry it's caused this fuss. Thanks for your concern as to my welcome forumites. Fortunately I'm old enough and ugly enough to take a bit of stick. I'll try to keep future posts more constructive but will find it hard not to do the odd bit of leg pulling. Cheers Silverfox

It's fin de siecle (excuse missing accent) = end of century (esp 19th). Hardly appropriate at the beginning of the 21st century. However, it's late and I'm being pedantic. You're half excused for your witty attempt.

Might be an idea to take a 'meaty' tome with you as well - Tolstoy's War and Peace perhaps

That may explain why some idiot had the bright idea of having onion sellers outside WR a while back to further exacerbate the obstructive queuing. Thinking about it though, it may have been another marketing idea of WR to entertain the long-suffering customers in the queue.
  13. Oh dear, sorry if I've hit a raw nerve SeanMacGabhann. My point was the queue at William Rose could be reduced by opening a second door on the side street. If I have a problem it's that I think people like you who queue outside William Rose looking miserable on a Saturday cause more of an obstruction than buggies. A second door would allow you to queue up on the side road rather than all try to huddle under the little awning and free up the main road for people like me who've got better things to do than queue up for hours for a couple of pork chops. Ask yourself why this obvious solution hasn't been taken up by William Rose and who's the real f@*%wit here.
  14. Betsy555 - the problem with a crowded William Rose is not the buggies and children but the fact that they haven't opened a second doorway onto the side road to improve ease of access and egress. I suspect it is deliberate on their part to keep the foolish customers queuing up on Lordship Lane in all weathers. Excellent marketing William Rose I take my hat off to you. East Dulwich is awash with marketing fodder prepared to queue for ages as unpaid advertisers for your business.
