  1. I saw this on Twitter whilst doing a night feed.... Not sure if its in the UK but the idea behind it made me giggle... sorry for the bad language but I think its part of the 'concept'. Anyway, hope it makes you smile.... http://www.amazon.com/Go-F-Sleep-Adam-Mansbach/dp/1617750255
  2. .... for the last 8 years I have been convinced that the meal I was offered on Korean Air was called 'Biff Bam Bong' - admittedly I had had a sleeping tablet and was woken up by the legend of 'omelette, beef or biff bam bong' by the lovely air stewardess... I am sad to see it is called bim bim bap legalalien..... I have been dining out (pardon the pun) on that story for years... I flew with Korean Air before I had children and so it was a regular, 'get on, have a drink and watch a film type affair.' Did exactly what it said on the tin though and was at the time the cheapest on offer. I enjoyed the transfer and the novelty of a different airline. Having done that journey down under a couple of times, with various airlines, the hardest was with my 18 month old to NZ - it was with Cathay Pacific, who were great, but it was stressful as he didn't have a paid for seat, was too big for bassonet (sp?), but on quieter legs we got 4 seats to ourselves. Having own seat is very good! Good luck with the trip and what you decide to do. Enjoy!
  3. Just wanted to add that after I watched the show I spoke online to an ex-student of mine (I teach secondary students. She found herself pregnant at 16 and now has a 5 month old baby girl. She expressed real anger at how teen mums were portrayed. She breastfeeds, gives talks to other teen mums at the local centre and enjoys feeding her baby. She was angry that the programme suggested that if Katie Price did not breastfed then she, as a teenager, would be influenced enough to follow suit. I also spoke to another teen mum who said exactly the same. Both used breastfeeding councillors and groups. I think the main point that came up (I went on the bbc3 forum afterwards) was not getting help, both to carry on or swap to formula successfully. Cherry said if she had spoken out at the time then she would have carried on. I too have had 6 weeks of infections and breastfeeding problems with my second baby (bfeed first baby til 15 months) and without help, I may have stopped. Got help both times from some fab groups in area. I also thought they didn't explore mixed feeding enough - formula saved me from stopping and now I mostly breastfed. (I really like Cherry Healey too btw).
  4. My son is new to the school but I know a lot of parents of children there and they are very happy. As an aside, I have been going to the children's centre there with my new born and the staff are FANTASTIC!!!!!! I think this reflects how much of a community feeling that is there. I have worked in education for years and can honestly say that this is not the norm across the city. I also don't take Ofsted's word as gospel. Best to visit schools and make your own conclusions. I totally agree with Molly's comments. Hope this helps...
  5. Hi there! Just logged on to see how you were - update here is: mastitis gone, bug gone, thrush on way out and had a night of formula last night after a bit of a tiredness melt down. Baby back on boob and mum less frazzled. Also discovered fab mum/baby group. Drop me a pm if you have time x
  6. Just to say that we were burgled on 8 Feb around 4.30am. We were asleep upstairs. We have a UPVC door and I have since read an article in the South London Press about these types of doors being targetted. The burglaries were almost identical to mine. I am mentioning this as a warning to those who have these doors - even if you pull up handle to lock, it would appear they are using something through the letterbox to get in. They took everything downstairs of value, including the keys to my car, which they escaped in. Again, I have been telling friends to keep keys, cards etc upstairs - this was the advice given to me by the police. I have also been double locking door. I was 2 weeks away from giving birth at the time, so the whole incident was extra stressful. Victim support were great, came round with extra locks etc - I know this is a bit 'horse bolted' thing, but it gave me some piece of mind. We live in Nunhead, near the Harris Girls Academy.
  7. So sorry to hear this. I logged on today to report something similiar. We live near Ivydale Road and were burgled early Tuesday morning while we slept. They took tv, cameras, games, purses and car keys, which they used to drive off in our car in! I am heavily pregnant and my four year old was asleep upstairs. Horrible, just horrible. My neighbour said that she had an attempted robbery a few days before. I have been keeping all my stuff upstairs and carrying keys around. Its really effected us all. Keep safe folks - I am so grateful for all the support from my neighbours since the incident.
  8. .. don't normally reply to threads, but this one is close to my heart at the moment. Due to have baby number 2, and at 37 + 5 days am plunging myself into the unknown. Finances have meant that hiring someone is out of the question and I am with the Peckham Way midwives. I would advise Shellbear to go and see Teresa Arias at KIngs or similiar - she was amazing and went through my previous hospital notes with me, took her time, really explained fully what my options were, what happened in the previous homebirth to emergency c-section birth of my son four years ago. I am so so so tempted to have an elective - this has been mostly due to hearing stories from friends who tried for VBACs and ended up with an emergency c. I really do not want to labour for 2 days as I did previously and end up in the same position. On the other side, many friends have had an elective and recommended the benefits that come with that. I also took a refresher NCT course and the teacher was amazing in giving me lots of practical advice. She did not judge me at any time for any choice I might make. I beleive you can ask for scans later on to check position of baby, there are upteen exerices you can do to get that good position, and Teresa showed me how to manage labour if you do need to be monitored. Still rather scared and unsure to be honest, but know that I can ask for help if I need it. Got another appointment next week and will talk about sweeps etc if I go to 40 weeks. Sorry for rambling and bad spelling - got the 'pregnant and not sleeping' thing. A very good friend pointed me in the direction of this link - http://www.becomingmother.co.uk/?cat=67 - I found the stories on it honest and refreshing. Good luck with it all - I shall follow this thread with interest and let you know how I get on when my time comes. Thanks for starting the thread - all the contributions have really helped.
