  5. Feel free and good luck. The noticeboard hasn't been properly used since it was maintained by the lovely woman in Health Matters.
  6. James Barber is an amazing human being. Caring and got things done.
  7. Dulwich Cake Co on Instagram or Friddles are great local small businesses. Or Sweet Carolina also good, I think based a little further but deliver locally.
  8. Really unhelpful post. I can only assume you don't have to do a school run and get to and from work on a daily basis. Of course I'm not using the logic you claim I'm using. Ridiculous point for the sake of a point and yes we all know certain works are necessary (pavements being widened and made more cyclist friendly that's another debate). I was simply saying PLANNED works (as these all are to my knowledge) should be staggered wherever possible; not be planned in simultaneously. I've just seen a sign saying yet more roadworks on Barry Road. Sigh. You don't seem to need to travel in rush hour, plus nobody expects the same traffic issues on Fridays generally as lots now work from home. Issue is early morning and early evening Mon to Thurs on the whole. Rush hour for commuters and those doing school runs or trying to get to hospital appointments etc.
  9. Yawn.. as I and others suspected the noticeboard is already looking shabby, has the details of local councillors who in my experience are of very limited help with anything at all (e.g. noticeboard took several years of writing to get back in working order and now isn't being kept up to date with any useful local info about food banks or any services as promised). So nothing at all in left hand side. Pointless and a real shame as could benefit so many small businesses.. and no I don't own a small business I just believe in supporting shopping locally where possible and know they often have little to no marketing budget.
  10. All I want is for local service providers to be more joined up in their thinking and when they plan in works to consider the impact on those using buses to get to work or hospital appointments etc if they plan in simultaneous upgrade works on each of the major roads to East Dulwich (and Denmark Hill), Forest Hill and Peckham Rye - as at present all the main roads near the stations have roadworks and temporary traffic lights, with some bus stops closed too. Ellie wrote to the council and they replied to say they had thought because the works were quite a distance from each other there wouldn't be a huge impact, so I've written to ask that they consider the impact on traffic to and from each station when planning in future works. So to answer your question, I wasnt expecting the earth.. just common sense to be applied when people in companies plan these works. Hope that makes sense to everyone locally, especially in light of LTNs also affecting traffic on main roads (whether for or against everyone surely must agree they've led to more traffic on the main roads, as that's simply what happens by introducing a low traffic neighbourhood (see separate thread for LTNs). Or indeed those planning without common sense!
  11. Well said. All the roadworks up and down East Dulwich could have been far better planned in, so as to avoid 3-4 sets of roadworks happening at once around ED station, on Lordship Lane towards Forest Hill and on Peckham Rye. This means there isn't one route you can get a bus to a train station at anything other than snail pace. I've written to our MP Ellie Reeves as it seems never ending... yes we agree they're vital works but there is minimal communication with residents and having closed roads to create LTNs the buses many of us rely on (especially if our morning and evening involves a nursery or school run) are impossibly slow. Infuriating and so stressful as it affects work too for those who have to go into the office regularly. Cycling and walking not always options.
  12. We used Tom King recently to repair two light switches and have used him in the past for moving a plug socket. He's a lovely guy as well as the utmost professional. Very reliable and helpful, talks you through what's needed with a repair and charges reasonable rates, especially as some electricians charge the earth in this area now. Highly recommended!
  13. https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/south-london-council-raked-in-1-million-from-illegal-low-traffic-zone-b1227062.html Fantastic news re the win against Lambeth local authority.. let's hope we can get some LTNs removed in East Dulwich, tho I suspect the new road and "square" near ED station further cements the permanent LTN on Melbourne Grove sadly.

  15. They also collect near Bond Street station near Oxford Circus. Always same guys.
  16. The Plough has very good traditional food...
  17. Yes I got an email from Ellie Reeves local MP today, saying Lordship Lane post office will stay but become a franchise. So good news for those who still use post offices!
  18. Many are enduring the cost of living crisis. Whilst I feel for single people living alone, the point is many families also feel squeezed financially so you saying it's fairer for larger households to pay more for water consumption is a bit mean spirited. There are many many situations people find themselves in and one could also argue that single people living alone in 3 bedroom houses are disadvantaging families by taking up more space than needed. The discussion could go right down a rabbit hole. The basic point is water should be free. It was until privatisation and now it feels like yet another tax on working families. I'm using the term hardworking families because we've been hard hit by many increasing bills. That isn't to take away from single people or those without kids. Obviously everything (well most things) are choices. Everyone is entitled to free speech last time I checked. Why does the term hardworking families bother you so much?! Jeez...
  19. Pavement widening is ongoing just moving up Grove Vale I think... The LTNs don't reduce pollution aside from on the roads they've closed. Minority benefit whilst majority suffer from slower moving traffic on Lordship Lane as an example. I don't drive, we don't own a car but the buses crawl down the main road since the implementation of LTNs and residents were not properly consulted before they came about.
  20. Have you seen the size of those lorries? Lorries that deliver (or collect?) from Jewsons hardly squeeze down Railway Rise near the tyre shop and crash into the first floor corner flat at least once a year...
  21. I am about to tomorrow. I only just realised after asking some neighbours today. Agreed that smaller households should of course pay less, like discounted council tax bills for those on benefits for example. However as our bills have gone up astronomically generally in the last few years, I do feel hardworking families are being penalised... also avid gardeners will be penalised in the summer when gardens are watered no doubt.
  22. We had a meter installed last year. This wasn't requested and I assumed they would fit them for everyone on our road. However, it appears not everyone has a meter. Our bills have increased so I wanted advice. Everything I've read online suggests TW are legally entitled to fit water meters. However, surely they have to do this fairly and for all residents on one road, working through the area? Can't believe our bills are going to increase so astronomically. Surely this is penalising families or larger households.
