Recommendation for catering for a party
hellose5 replied to Bumpkin's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
suzanne james - she catered for vegan, veg, meat and GF all tasty -
She will have a good time because you already show you care about her having a good time. Loads of free things to do - as a couple they will probably want to get round on their own but you can supply some additional ideas - free London guided walks, all the museums in South Ken, street entertainments eg in Covent Garden, hotel Christmas lobbies decorated with trees, Borough market, walk along the South Bank, the markets Portobello, Camden, Spitalfields et al, free music concerts and lunchtime talks in many churches St Martins in the Fields for example, and art galleries and the list goes on... Bloomberg Connect is a good app for museums, check out the Londonist, the Nudge, all the blogs on tips for London

the companies issue a phone click on qr code to give you guide price - however, they seem to work more on an algorithim of what works for them, so after a few books, they suddenly go 'no' until they get one they absolutely want - they buy for pence - so you need a lot of books, then they go through them and subjectively tell you the ones which are not up to scratch, but having bought also from the same company, they do not necessarily send out 'good' stock - you must pack them, they give the labels and then they collect. I think there is room for a more honest competitor, but I am sure it is a difficult business, built on inventory and algorithims rather than buying 'books'. Would be interested in hearing in more detail about the venture.

Miranda Sawyer of the (once) Observer has done a piece on festival on Insta which might be of-interest. Councils are private companies, imo. They make money for themselves, imo. I do not think by law that they have to follow anything brought up by a consultation, this is for 'face' only - hence, LTNs and everything else.

New Shops in East Dulwich and Nearby - 2025 Edition
hellose5 replied to Joe's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
let's support local, especially when it's good -
maybe ask Southwark Council as this would help prompt them to see what people are interested in and they should have a map somewhere, or ask Dulwich Picture Gallery, or Dulwich Diverter. There's the Peckham Sculpture Trail on insta.

The London Book Fair, Olympia - is it worth visiting for new authors?
hellose5 replied to Naiada's topic in The Lounge
of course, go for it -
On one of the bike hangar spaces (we have four hardly used in our road as not safe, dirty and people with expensive bikes take them indoors or into their gardens) Southwark Council inadvertently sent us paperwork which declared the space was worth 1million in terms of cash. Another neighbour told us that Councils do not need to consult which is why they just carry on. Legalalien - maybe you might be able to research this by your moniker? Is this true? Can this be changed through Ombudsmen? Ealing Council's fight to say that actually ambulances and fire need access - helped - go to one of the fora for Ealing - Lib Dem I think to see a sound, cogent, article. We need balance on the road, clogging them up causes more polution not less (especially round schools - but Council does not want to be sued). Lithium is fire hazard, Chinese-led, enslaved children etc etc, no lasting power. So EV short-term measure and is not the way. Maybe gas-powered cars are? R4 might be good to contact, LBC etc.

What's the best utility provider in the area?
hellose5 replied to lexibean33's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hey and yes welcome and happy moving in. Another 'yeh' to Octopus. So, British Gas is one of the worst that I have had the displeasure of dealing with - even Ofgem wrote to me to say that BG is the one which they have the most trouble with . . . -

Lime bikes (and other hire companies) left in middle of pavement
hellose5 replied to first mate's topic in Roads & Transport
email for lime bikes is: [email protected] sadie khan would be a good person to email but don't know his email people have no consideration and just park anywhere on pavement and anyhow - I always move them but they are heavy to move -
gas is still cheaper than electric - we use slow cooker and a bit of gas - consumer commentators have recently said it wasn't cheaper particularly compared to microwave etc
