  1. Keys locked in the glove box? How many people keep their car and house keys seperate and lock the house keys in the glove box? Ask yourself, if the same happened to you, would you call a friend, speak to the police if you were genuinely unable to contact anyone or get into your house, or just start knocking on strangers' windows.

I remember riding an Enfield round India a few years back where I was simply unable to get hold of any riding gear, the bike was 'hired' from the uncle of some bloke running one of the food stalls in town. Cruising round with no helmet was great. I know the risks and it's an informed decision. Usually it's leather jacket, lid, boots and gloves at the very least. Full leathers for long rides and trackdays. Occasionally when it's this hot, I ditch the jacket and flip the lid up. I still wear gloves and boots though.
  3. Was anyone here drinking in the Prince Regent in Herne Hill on Friday night (26th)? Ten of us were out there, and all but one of us became ill on Sunday and had to take Monday off. Symptoms were stomach pain and liquids being lost in unorthodox ways, etc. One poor bloke is still suffering today. Curious to see if any other Friday night drinkers at the Regent got the same. Was it an especially virulent virus, or bad beer from the pub? Cheers.
  4. @PeckhamRose Me too. Record is Lordship Lane to Monument in 17 minutes. Nothing to do with my Rossi-esque riding skills, more luck with the traffic and lights TBH. That's properly door to door too with the bike parking in the garage at work. It is getting a bit warm now though when stationary sat over an engine. H&S goes out the window at times like these... open face lid and shirt sleeves. Feels lovely!
  5. Thanks folks. Must have missed that link on the website.
  6. Does anyone know where the nearest council tip is to ED? I've looked on the Southwark web site but can only find details for recycling centres or streetside collection. Problem is I've got all sorts of bags of rubble and assorted junk from clearing a garage and my experience of streetside collection is they will only take itemised bulky items. Also, if you fill wheelie bins with obvious non domestic waste they tend to leave them. Cheers.
  7. Trainee taxidermists, obviously. ;-)
  8. An hour if the buses time it right, which is out of your control, especially that sodding 149. ;-) In any case, the point stands. It's a long way to hack 10 miles across central London on buses, whatever way you look at it. Stokey's not paritcularly well connected either FWIW. In fact there are some parallels between that place and ED I always thought. Possibly because of the relatively poor transport links which maybe makes residents take more of an interest in their local venues. They both have a similar level of 3 wheel buggy ownership and outrage at crime on their doorstep. Stokey didn't have a suspicious clown though.

Thing is, unless your visitors leave before 11:30 they can't get a train so are looking at an hour and a half journey. Could easily take longer if they have to wait for busses. That's a long journey for a night out by anyone's standards. Granted you can do the journey in 45 mins late at night if you pay ?20+ for a cab. I used to live in Stokey by the way and have done this journey numerous times. While there are many good points about ED, late night public transport is not one of them. Back to the original question, people usually just say 'Where?'.

  11. Back onto the topic in the title: Using other pepoles skips... Firstly, apologies to anyone on our road this morning who witnessed possibly the most incompetent truck driver in London nearly take out our garden wall, a lamp post and a couple of cars while trying to deliver our skip. So f*cking useless it was untrue. He couldn't manoeuvre it into our yard (we've had a skip in there before) and we didn't have a permit for the road so after an hour of bungling he had to take it away! Anyway, I digress. Witness to this shambolic display were the builders stood over the road. They very kindly offered to let us fill the remainder of their skip if we wanted as we don't have a lot to dispose of so wouldn't have filled ours anyway. ?160 saved, lamp post preserved and proof that some people are quie happy for others to use their skip.

Surprised by mundanity of local issues discussed. Was secretly hoping for something more interesting such as celebrity dogging in the area, or somesuch. ;-) Kind of agree though, OP should go to Sainsburys. ...why did I click on a link titled 'Queues in Somerfield' again???? :-S
  13. Thanks for the heads up TMR. Where do you get this info, Met website?

Is this a recent thing following the Barry Road shooting? I live in that area just next to LL and can't say I've noticed an increased police presence. Genuinely curious.
  15. Ah, yes. Whitstable. One place in the SE I have been to a number of times. I think that's mainly just the whole 'nearest bit of coast to London' thing though. Fanatstic seafood! Was more after the nearest Kent contryside an easy train ride away, but thanks anyway.
  16. First post so hello all! :)-D I'm relatively new to ED and was wondering where it's possible to get to just outside of London from ED train station, or do I have to go in to LB and back out? I'm not that familiar with the south east. Main reason is I fancy a bike ride away from the smog on the weekend. Easy transit from ED and scenery are the main requirements, nice country pubs would be a bonus. Cheers.
