thinking of moving house - usual story... catchment mare do you know what the distance was for 2013 september applications? would woodwarde road (before dovercourt, but only just!) get in do you think? it's just shy of 500M thanks! also - anyone know dulwich hamlet distance? i'm assuming that would be ok for sure?

I asked him who manufactured it, he didn't know that either... The first thing he said was, 'do you know anyone who's died of breast cancer'. So quite emotive stuff. Ok - that's confirmed - sounds dodgy If anyone hears from him then pls don't give him any cash Eta: the money was to be used for 'research' and to help pay for this drug 'olaporeed'. That's when I started asking him questions. Cos if the drug worked, it would be approved by NICE. If they'd refused, we'd know about it from the press.

I've just had a gentleman knocking on behalf of a breast cancer charity. He told me about a new therapy called 'Olaporeed' but he didn't know how to spell it... He said that it was like chemotherapy but only had headache as a side effect He didn't have a leaflet to give me or anything - he just asked me to look up the therapy on the website 'breastcancer.org'. I can't find it. But perhaps I've spelled it wrong? Has anyone heard of this 'new' therapy? Apparently the government wont pay for it.... Seemed quite late to be knocking on doors - anyway I found the whole thing a little suspect and wondered whehter he'd knocked on anyone else's door and explained himself a little better? or whether i've just been too suspicious?

why isn't there a lollipop lady at this crossing, during this time of day, seeing as it's so close to the school? anyone know?

Pls be careful about saying things like 'bf is natural so get on with it'. It may have worked for you, but it doesn't for all. My son didn't feed properly, became seriously dehyadrated and ended up in special care for seven days. I then had to pump and syringe feed for that whole time, as I wasn't with him, which made things much worse in terms of establishing bf. There was forumla there for my son (thank god) which he desperately needed Good luck Edit to say: if you're struggling with feeding in hospital, pls ask for a bf counsellor. They are fantastic. The midwives are not formally trained about bf and I found the advice I received actually did more harm than good... Advice like 'keep trying, it'll work eventually...'

reading that thread i felt i wouldn't be fit to be a parent if didn't own a car...! takes 6 mins for an ambulance to get to you on average in London, probably less as we're so close to kings *sips*

Is it because say (and these are just ideas rather than what *I* think: 1) Tougher environment to get into schools/universities, fewer job opportunities etc 2) People sacrifice soooo much for their kids these days. Woman (& men) giving up their careers they love/freedom they relish 3) Greater emphasis on financial gain/materialistic gain in life 4) Fewer 'eggs in the basket' as people have fewer children (or is that not true?) thoughts?

We have used a routine right from the start and it has worked really well.

agree I found myself thinking the same after i offered my 7 month old a sterlised bottle of milk (using boiled water) after he'd just managed to wriggle out of my arms and lick the London-Brighton train window... :s

I totally agree, i really don't think this is post natal depression. It's clearly rational reaction to an impossible situation edit to say - if woman keep 'doing it all' are we just going to breed another generation of men who expect that?

I too was told by a doctor that the bcg vaccination was not very effective. I personally chose not to go with this one after weighing up the effectiveness versus threat of acquiring tb Generally however, i am a firm believer in vaccinations

My maternity allowance (self employed) is ?500 a month? and i think stat maternity pay for salaried people is about the same? but one is taxed and the other isn't still not clear as to why but your posts suggest it's because most people on Maternity Allowance are generally worse off in terms of support and so therefore they're exempt from tax i still think it's slightly odd/unfair though

Still not clear on logic in terms of why would one population of woman pay tax and the other not? Self emplyed v salary based I can understand if temp or not earned enough. That makes sense. But the former? Keef - surely a gd thing for mrs keef if it meant she didn't pay tax on her mat pay? Or did they wiggle out of paying her a much better internal company package?

Does anyone understand the logic behind this? Statutory Pay is salary based Maternity Allowance is self employed maternity pay
