jollybaby replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Kings- hopefully in a bed or pool rather than the car park! Feeling fine just bored. even though you know first babies are usually late you still half expect them to cone on the due date. Now where's that thread on avoiding induction. . . . -

Any news anyone? Am going slowly crazy here although know I should be making the most of my last few days of peace! -
Have you ever been referred to a neurologist or have you only been seeing your GP? If you haven't seen a neurologist yet it may be worth asking for a referral as they will be able assess whether these are true tension headaches or something else - ie migraine or cluster headaches. (Although most good GPs should be able to do this too ). It's important because there are other types of medication that can be helpful with migraine and cluster headaches - both for prevention and treatment. Hope you feel better soon. http://www.kch.nhs.uk/services/neurosciences/neurology/headache-services/

Is it really bad to stop antibiotics a few days in?
jollybaby replied to Lochie's topic in The Family Room Discussion
As Fuschia says - the risk is that the infection hasn't been completely treated and that any residual bacteria may thrive and ultimately develop resistance. Whilst this isn't great for the community - it can also be bad for the child as any subsequent infections may be with the more resistant bug and therefore may not respond to the standard antibiotics - hence your mum saying 'come back with a vengeance'- though this is by no means guaranteed! The caveats to this though are - did you really need antibiotics in the first place (ie was it viral/ would it have got better anyway) and how long should a full course of antibiotics be - different doctors will prescribe different length courses. -
Good to know - I've just invested in a 'poang' for this purpose. Hopefully will be able to feedback fairly soon.

Dulwich/ Brixton /Battersea area's Equal
jollybaby replied to Ridgley's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
When you say afford to live there - are you talking about price of houses, rent or day to day living ie shops, pubs etc? If it is house prices, you could argue that the 'original' homeowners benefit from gentrification - ie if you sold the house that you inherited from your grandparents you'd probably get quite a nice sum (particularly if you had done so in 2007/8)- much more in relative terms than you would have got 10 or 20 years ago. You'd then have the freedom to decide whether you want to stay in this area or upgrade to a much bigger pad in a cheaper area. As DJKQ said - within cities it's totally normal for areas to become more or less popular over time. It's not just because 'the middle classes' are moving in and making it trendy (whoever they may be). There's lots of driving factors including transport links etc. It works both ways - my dad always gets really upset when he goes back to the area he grew up in and sees how run down it has become. -
How soon after birth do you...
jollybaby replied to Natalie Doula's topic in The Family Room Discussion
There is only a 10 1/2 month gap between my stepsister's children. She didn't find out that she was pregnant with the second until she was 18 weeks or so when she felt the baby move. It was a bit of a surprise! -
Um average wage is just that -average. It isn't really that helpful a figure to quote when talking about adequacy of income. After all it is determined by what people actually earn rather than being a calculated figure over which you can expect to maintain a reasonable standard of living. Income follows a skewed distribution as said above so it is not surprising that there is an imbalance towards 'below average' but that doesn't necessarily mean everyone who is below average should be considered as living in poverty. Sorry to go off topic but this talk of averages is bugging me. Shouldn't we say low income instead?

Where is good for Sunday lunch with kids?
jollybaby replied to Layla's Mum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'd try the mag. The Sunday lunches are pretty good and there are always lots of families there. It's usually pretty easy to get a table too. -
Do you ask for seat on train/bus?
jollybaby replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Gina The fact that people may not offer in case you are a larger woman and not pregnant is all the more reason to ask. I didn't have one person refuse in all my weeks of commuting. More often than not the person next to them would go to stand up too. -

Do you ask for seat on train/bus?
jollybaby replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I always used to ask for a seat on the tube when I was commuting heavily pregnant. The one time I didn't was on one of those really hot days at the end of June - the tube got stuck in a tunnel and I nearly fainted! Someone finally gave me a seat by which time I was in tears and half the carriage were fussing over me giving me water etc. Lesson learnt. What I found really surprising though, was that it was the 30 something women who were worse at giving up their seats. Old ladies and 'hoodies' were the best offerers. -

Many congrats Peppa and Smiler . . . . . I suppose in theory I'm next but am not holding my breath - I think the little one is quite happy where she is! -

Yet another question re: Bugaboo Bee
jollybaby replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
That is the new model - the old model has 'solid' wheels -
I've just completed my NCT classes and have mixed views - I've met a great group of women (and men) but didn't really find the course that informative and half wish that I had attended the free NHS ones instead. There are plenty of other chances to meet new and expectant mothers ie through this forum.

I have no experience of St Giles' Hospital but may be easier to ask to be referred to Guys and St Thomas' - that's where the Ear, Nose and Throat services for the region are based rather than Kings.

You were a troll - never would have guessed! I think quite a lot of people had worked out that you were trolling 'Mr Russell'- although as you are aware this didn't stop the many spirited responses to your posts. Will be interested to see your article and what you made of your time on the forum - though please don't present it like you had completely fooled the idiots of the EDF as your unveiling isn't really that much of a surprise

No all working fine. Looked at 150 (eek) holiday photos of someone I couldn't really stand at uni, admired someone's puppy and am more convinced than ever that my brother in law is totally crazy after reading his hourly status updates
