Dear all, A warm advance welcome to all those who have been allocated Goose Green primary school for a reception place in September 2011. Congratulations, you are now part of a vibrant, happy and ambitious local school. In due course you will be invited in for a welcome meeting with the teachers, headteacher and PTA but in the meantime if you have any questions that we (the PTA) may be able to answer please feel free to PM or email [email protected]. See you soon GGPTA

Goose Green primary school is an ambitious and rapidly improving school. We have recently been the first school in Southwark to achieve the government recognised "every child matters" award and have also obtained the silver eco schools award. Our SATS results last year were amongst the best locally and our best ever. The school has refurbished the reception playground access and an ambitious programme of building is shortly to commence which will provide us with our own kitchen to prepare fresh healthy lunches on site and work is to start on the development of a green screen of climbing plants along the Grove Vale side of the playground in conjunction with the Centre for Wildlife Gardening. Strong teaching staff and leadership, committed and effective governers and PTA are striving for and achieving excellence for our children. We offer wrap around care 8am-6pm and a wide range of heavily subsidised after school classes; drama, ballet, tae kwondo, football, ICT etc etc. Our music and sports provision is excellent. The headteacher, Sharron Marland, will be conducting a tour of the whole school on Monday 10th January at 9.30am. This will be the last chance to tour the school before the deadline for reception places for September 2011. Given that we are taking a bulge class and will be a 3 form entry we are perhaps the school that many local people are most likely to get in to! The PTA holds a coffee morning on the first monday of every month (late this year because of the bank holiday) and those taking the tour are welcome to join us beforehand in the after school annexe accessed via the playground from about 9.10am. No need to book just turn up at the gates on Tintagel Crescent and the office will buzz you through. If you want to know more about the school but cannot attend the tour, please feel free to PM. Goose Green School - tour 4th October
goosegreenpta replied to goosegreenpta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Dear all, just a quick reminder that this event will take place next Monday. If you can't make it but would like to visit, there are tours/PTA coffee mornings on the first Monday of every month so still chances to visit before deadline for primary applications. We do appreciate that this makes it hard for working parents to come and have a look around but feel that it is important to see the school during its working day. If you can never come on a Monday call the office to enquire about making an alternative appointment or PM me (I'm a mum with 2 children at the school; nursery and year 1) and/or look at our website www.goosegreenprimaryschool.org.uk. In the last couple of years our intake has included children living off Lordship Lane, East Dulwich Grove and Grove Vale as well as The Gardens, Barry Road and Bellenden area. Of course this is only a rough guide, catchment changes every year. GGPTA -
Dear parents, For those making their applications for reception place Sept 2011, looking for a nursery or concerned about their child's current primary school and considering other options, Goose Green primary and nursery school will be holding an open morning on Monday 4th October. There will be a tour of the whole school conducted by the headteacher Mrs Marland after which you are invited to join in the PTA coffee morning and speak to those of us with children already at the school. Goose Green came out of special measures in the last academic year. It is our intention to become an outstanding school and an experienced, dynamic and cohesive teaching staff, strong board of governers, enthusiastic parents and delightful children are working hard to achieve that goal. Last year we had more parents put the school as their No1 choice for a reception place than ever before. The children also achieved the school's best ever SATS results which we understand to be 10th highest in the whole of Southwark. We are very proud of our school and invite you to come and have a look at a school that is well and truly on the up No need to reserve a place, just come to the school gates on Tintagel Crescent about 9.15 and come through to the office. Hope to see you there GGPTA

Goose Green primary and nursery school host an open day on the first Monday of every month for parents to have a look around. July's open day is on Monday 5th and is the last one of the school year. No need to book, just come along to the school entrance on Tintagel Crescent at about 9.15 and the office will buzz you through. The headteacher Sharron Marland, will then conduct a tour of the whole school from nursery to year 6 so you can see the school "in action". Afterwards there will be an opportunity to join the PTA's monthly coffee morning and chat to parents with children already at this lovely, vibrant school. If you cannot make the tour but have questions about the school or nursery that you think a parent may be able to help with then please feel free to PM Regards GGPTA

goosegreenpta replied to goosegreenpta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Just a reminder that this is on Monday. The PTA hold a coffee morning for parents and carers on the first Monday of every month during term time and the Headteacher Sharron Marland also attends for a chat and to answer any questions we may have. She then conducts a tour of the whole school from nursery to Year 6 for parents and carers of prospective pupils - a chance to see the school in action and to ask our Head about any aspect of school life. We welcome those taking the tour to join us before and/or after the tour. See you there GGPTA -
Goose Green School open day - 7th June
goosegreenpta replied to goosegreenpta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yes craigy 5th July. Same time, same place. -
Goose Green school has a tour conducted by the headteacher on the first monday of every month during term time. This coincides with a PTA coffee morning and gives prospective parents the opportunity to have a cuppa and a chat with parents who have children already at the school. We don't put every one of these dates on the forum but the next one on Monday 7th June seems like an ideal chance for those parents whose children have been allocated a place for Sept/Jan reception places to come and have another look around, meet the Head and parents. There is no need to book, just turn up at the entrance gates on Tintagel Crescent at about 9.15am and the lovely ladies in the office will buzz you through. Of course this is not exclusively for new reception starters but anyone who is interested in a school place for their child. We hope to see you there GGPTA

Goose Green Nursery, can you recommend it?
goosegreenpta replied to Steph's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The nursery is on the same site as the school on Tintagel Crescent; if approaching from Goose Green Roundabout, Tintagel is the road right next to the roundabout with charity shop on one corner and estate agent opposite that, if coming from ED station side, turn up Elsie Road and Tintagel is first left. If the school gates are closed just press the buzzer and the office will buzz you in. Go to the office if coming only for the tour or the after school club room for the coffee morning plus the tour (this is in the building to your left as you walk in). -
Goose Green primary school is a vibrant, improving local school. Goose Green School - school tours
goosegreenpta replied to goosegreenpta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Steph, such a shame you couldn't make it and I hope your son is feeling better. There will be other tours on the first monday of December and January (that is after the school returns from the christmas break)which I will advertise here on the forum so keep an eye out or visit the school website. As far as I am aware your son is eligible to start nursery the term after he is 3; i.e January 2010 and then he would (if you applied and he fulfilled the criteria) start reception in September 2011. Give the office a call (after 9.30 is best) and ask Donna whether you have a place; if she can't help ask for the head of the nursery to give you a call. Or call in to the office in person. It's a lovely nursery and very popular so good luck! If he does get a place please feel free to sign onto the pta mailing list to get a flavour of all the good and hard work that is going into improving the school and having some fun. -

Goose Green School - school tours
goosegreenpta replied to goosegreenpta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The lovely ladies in the office tell me that they have lots of people calling up about open day who have seen this post or the posters up around ED. Hopefully lots of you will be able to come along and so even if you have done one of the small tours in the past do think about coming and having another look as it will be an opportunity to meet other parents of prospective pupils and parents of children who are already at the school See you there -
Goose Green is a happy, friendly, vibrant school which is "on the up". Come and see for yourself at our open day on 9th November. There will be three tours through the day conducted by the Headteacher Sharron Marland giving parents and carers the opportunity to see our school in action from Early Years (nursery and reception) through to Year 6. The tours will start at 9.15am, 11am and 1.45pm and last about 45 minutes. Please note that the 11am tour will not include the nursery. After the tour, parents of current pupils will be available for a chat and to answer any additional questions you may have and to provide coffee, tea and biscuits. There is no need to reserve a place; simply turn up at the gates on Tintagel Crescent shortly before your chosen time and make your way to the school office . We look forward to seeing you there.
