  1. Just phoned Thames Water, there's a burst water main on Lordship Lane and they're working on it now. I guess that we'll all just have to drink booze for the time-being....
  2. ..anyone else having problems too - just a trickle coming out of the taps? Cheers, Lee
  3. The exact same thing has happened to us and its a nightmare not being able to do my usual 2 washes a day for my 7 month old! I actually went back to basics and took a couple of essential loads over to the laundrette for a service wash. We used the one on Grove Vale which is open from 8am-830pm. Cost a tenner for 2 loads of light and dark, which were washed, tumbled and folded by the nice lady who runs it. Still can't wait for the new machine to arrive on Sat though!
  4. Hi there, We stayed in the New Forest over the New Year period with our six month old baby and some friends who have a one year old. We stayed in a lovely cottage owned by the Penny Farthing Hotel in Lyndhurst (the 'capital of the New Forest). They couldn't have been more helpful, highchairs and cots were provided and we would recommend The Trusty Servant (10 mins drive away) for a lovely family-friendly pub lunch. http://www.pennyfarthinghotel.co.uk/ Marie
  5. From my really angry wife: Louisa I must say i think your post is an absolute load of bollocks and instead of telling you to stick your spring rolls where the sun don't shine would like to provide a rational response to your ignorant post. I have recently become a mum, am from good Northern working class stock and have travelled to some pretty hardcore places myself. The way you are pigeonholing us 'yummys' merely for spending our hard-earned money in keeping small businesses in ED alive in a recession is unbelievably shortsighted for someone who by your posts appears to be a 'woman of the world'. All the mummy friends I have in ED are normal, lovely ladies - a far cry from the ignorant, more-money-than sense sloane rangers you are describing here - indeed many of them aren't even receiving maternity pay from their employers - so what if they want to nurse a cup of tea for the afternoon - motherhood (contrary to ill-informed belief) is hard bloody work and can be quite lonely so why shouldn't we be allowed to get out and about in the local community? A final point: I would say the majority of people in ED are tolerant, top people who I would like to think do not share your view.
  6. Today was an actual happy Monday. Still buzzing off of yesterday! On the spinners debate - Monty's got 10 wickets at 76 a piece this season, Swanny's been our most consistent bowler for the last year. Monty will come again but needs some time back at Northants.
  7. Very sad to hear this. Jed was a lovely dog. I hope that your dad is alright Karen, he's a lovely man.

Indeed, but would you be able to cook this after 5 pints t the same high standard? There is a niche there that our esteemed Indian / Bangladeshi / Pakistani bredren are and have filled for a number of years. Coconut rice btw...Oooh look at you pushing the boundaries.

The one with the syrup? Great value, if only to speculate how much longer the glue's got before the inevitable turning up of the sideburns and fringe.'
  10. Tremendous. At this rate I look forward to the review from AA Gill of the Jaflong in tomorrow's Sunday Times. Can I suggest an equally made up letter to this esteemed establishment from "Punch" challenging them on the quotes leading their leaflet?
  11. Hi, Just to say that apparently my house on Elsie Road is built on the site of a house that was bombed during the war. The garden's full of debris that the builders in the 60's threw a load of top soil over. Also, my nan used to tell me stories of walking back to her mum's house in Crystal Palace after being at the cinema during blackouts with the searchlights being pointed into the skies to pick out the bombers.
  12. Had the same at Drury Lane the other week, with my 7 months pregnant wife. I agree with the advice of getting in the cab first if you can (Not always possible though!) Addison Lee are, in my experience, terrific.
  13. I don't know about that Andystar, but chalk is cheap when it comes to community affairs. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
  14. Evening all, After the rave reviews me and the Mrs just visited Il Mirto and I can only agree with all of the other positive comments on here. I had the Antipasti (didn't look much, tasted lovely) and the House pizza which was immense. The lovely Mrs B had Caprese and a ?4 (!) margherita which was likewise tremendous. The service was a bit slow as there were only the 2 gents working, but everything was made fresh. In my opinion this is exactly the type of place we've needed around here, (proper Italian food) and we will definitely be going back (if we can get a table). The younger fella seemed chuffed when we told him about the reviews on here.
  15. Two weekends ago we had a heron on top of our shed being attacked by a murde of crows. Sinister stuff.(6)
