  1. @ Penguin68 That would be Rumsey The Chemist. Very dark inside and smelled exactly as a Chemist's shop should. Next door but one to Arthur Nutley's Barber Shop. He used to provide "pudding basin" haircuts to small boys, such as I was at the time for a couple of old pennies. @ Computedshorty Thanks for triggering the memory of being on a tram with my Gran. It lost power under the bridge at Lordship Lane Station It's brakes did not hold and it rolled back to the Grove Tavern before coming to a stop. Quite exciting at the time!
  2. Happy to reasure all EDFamites worried about crime stats and house prices, AC lives on the other side of the border in Forest Hill. Oh the shame!
  3. Does this count as positive (+) or a negative (-) news? :-S
  4. Hi Veejay, I also know the area well and was a neighbour of yours at the time (1945 to 1966). I vaguely recall 57 Underhill Road and well remember the lane from Belvoir Road ending at a large old house. There was a serious fire at that house one night, in which I believe an elderly lady unfortunately lost her life. There was a wonderful woodland space at the back of the gardens on that side of the road, ours included, in which to roam. This has now been built over. I do recall seeing a photograph which must have been taken from about where your house was, looking up Underhill Road, uphill in the direction of the cemetery. I think I saw the photograph on the wall in North Cross Road by the market not long ago, so it must be available from the Southwark archives. It is dated C1905. Good luck in your quest!
