My take is - places moved from shut to takeaway only and at that point became disposable only. Once a "rule" is in place it tends to stick, even if original reason is less valid. -

My understanding is the British Heart foundation are more accepting of electrical goods. We bought a DVD Player from their bromley branch, and named them British SCART foundation (groan). -
