The great thing about these prominently situated stands is it saves the bike thieves and vandals having to trawl the streets looking for likely targets - now they are all in nicely concentrated locations. Just look at the bike stands up by the London Communications College at the Elephant & Castle for a taste of what's to come.
James - Why don't you suggest buying one of the machines I read about not so long ago (maybe even on here, but I think the Times or Telegraph website) - apparently they cost about ?140k but mean that two people can fill a pothole in an hour instead of five people working for two hours or similar.

It so oddly out of place, next a fence on the side of the road where there are no houses or shops. Who would want to lock their bike up there - maybe the one person a year who decides they've had enough of cycling up that hill?

Hi Bono Fido,

Locking bicycles to these Sheffield type of bike parking is about the securest way of bike parking you can get in a publci space.

BUT two good different type of locks should be used. Different as apparently bike theives tend to carry one type of lock breaking kit. Two locks as seperately front wheel and frame should be locked and second lock for back wheel and frame.

Absolutely no evidence that placing sheffield stands results in more bike theft.

Locking bikes to solid items does result in less bike theft.

Many thanks to those involved in getting these all put in.

It's going to keep me busy updating the cycle map for the area - http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=51.46103&lon=-0.07105&zoom=16&layers=00B0FTF

If anyone spots any that are missing, add them here or let me know! http://openstreetbugs.appspot.com/?lon=-0.07140448150621496&lat=51.46178135764238&zoom=15

    • Sorry to be dim, but how would that help if I had a cold? I am not so vulnerable that I need extra protection from the mask itself. Just looked. My masks are from rosimask and  have a load of stuff stamped on them including FFP2.
    • Has anybody on here got any experience of covering a flat roof with sedum trays? We have a GRP (fibreglass) flat roof above our ground floor rear extension that would be suitable for this, but it's immediately below our rear bedroom window, so wondering if we might end being plagued with insects when the window is open in the summer. Also worried it might get damaged by pigeon poo and/or turn into a cat toilet, since there's lots of passing traffic!
    • I can't, but I'm sure ChatGPT could, if you ask it! With Windows 11, you can share documents, eg with work colleagues, via a setting. Probably it's the same with iPads etc and the solicitor has accidentally or deliberately shared it with your friend? I'm sure the solicitor can explain it if asked. Hopefully it wasn't an accident!
