I've been saving up (yes, I know that makes me sound 10) for a Micralite Fastfold for ages, and now I have the cash they've gone and brought out a new model - the Super-lite.

The main differences I can see is that it reclines further, and comes in new colours. And it only weighs 6kg. It's not out for another few weeks though and I'm getting impatient.

If you've got a Fastfold, would you see the need for an even lighter one or should I stick to the original model? It's for a not-light baby who's nearly one.

The fast fold is very light so I wouldn't bother too much about it being lighter. In fact, it tips over quite easily if you have some shopping on the handles and take the baby out before taking the shopping off. Reclining a bit further could be useful as my little one's head lolls forward when she sleeps due to the lack of recline. Other than that, it's great although it's a bit annoying how the front of it is quite wide. It is very easy to fold which is handy for travelling and storage
Oooh BUGGYS. So much more fun than my miserable day of sleep and naps traumas (shopping is my therapy!). So - verds as you know I briefly had a slightly older fastfold and I really love the look of them more than any other buggys and the bouncy back wheels (but did sometimes find I kicked the back wheel as v narrow).....But - KBN - I have to say I am loving my new maclaren quest more. Although a bit clattery (?word?!?), better recline, looks like he may fit in it beyond his first birthday and really easy to fold up even with cosytoes.

Yeah, come on, let's talk shopping!

Eek, I hadn't even thought about a Maclaren - I was just going for he Micralite because it's gorgeous. Perhaps I need a test drive. But then the new Superlite is available in a nice blue, which'll probably swing it for me. Does anyone with a baby over one use their original pram or is it all about the stroller from now on?

I put my little one in the Micralite around 4 months and ditched the cumbersome Mamas and Papas Pliko pram that I couldn't stand as it was so bulky and difficult to maneouvre. You are welcome to come try out the Micralite Fastfold (the old one, not the new one)

Hmmmm, had a Micralite (one of the originals), generally liked it but found I was forever getting the front wheels caught on stuff because they stick out more than you 'think' so you tend to misjudge your width.

It was good for random off road moments as easy to tilt back just onto the back wheels, but that gets tiring if you are on rough ground for long...and lethal for tipping backwards if you put shopping on the handles - did this with and without DD1 in it!

Have a look at the new Mountain Buggy Swift too.....it is only 8/9kg (can't recall exactly), 3 wheels so narrower at front than back and both mine (1 and nearly 6) fit in it, even though it is the width of a Mclaren. Fully reclines and front wheel swivels for shopping but locks for off roading (important as we do lots of muddy walks etc).

I have tried a LOT of buggys and have to say it is my last, and best all rounder - finally a buggy that does it all for me (hard to believe). It does what a Mclaren does, but with big wheels which is the one reason I have never, ever wanted a Mclaren.

H - I ended up with both the maclaren and the microlite - I will bring both along next time and you can text drive both otherwise I can pop over to you tomorrow sometime if you want?

mircolite - super nifty as its sooo light and easy to steer (with one hand steering and the other hand holding a shopping basket!) but i agree that it can tip easily. the back wheels are not plastic so i find i can bash it around more and S is ok (ie, up and down stairs at the train station)

maclaren - lies flat and seems to be more sturdier

I went to Nunhead Cemetery Open Day when 6 months pregnant and spent most of the time watching prams/pushchairs go past. It really helped to see all the different makes in action. A friend did similar but in Toys R Us. As a heavy public transport user I really should have paid more attention on the bus though, have got the M&P Pliko Pramette which I do like but is much more cumbersome than I was expecting. Now coveting Mountain buggy, after moving on from Bugaboo envy and boring my pregnant sister about her pram choice!

Molly - I think your idea of a "buggy meet" is brilliant! Buying a pram was the thing we spent the most time agonising over, only to be somewhat disappointed with our Fastfold. When I was pregnant I used to actually stop women with prams in the street to ask them if they liked the one they were using! I definitely would have attended a buggy meet!

    • What "stricter" consequences could there be for shoplifting (or any other crime) than being put into jail, do you think? Though our prisons are of course full enough already, without more people being shoehorned  into them.
    • Returning to the original question, I had my jabs at Tessa Jowell yesterday. I was early and I was  seen on time, and it was a lovely pharmacist who did them, but the admin beforehand (not by her) was a bit iffy. I was given forms to fill in but not told what to do with them afterwards, so I  presumed I had to take them into the consulting room, as the rest was supposed to be filled in by a clinician, but no! After some time had elapsed and I had found a seat (there was no information on where to sit either, so people were sitting in two separate areas, neither of which had many seats) my name was called and  the forms were taken behind the counter. Be aware if you don't have an appointment - even in the relatively short time I was there, three people turned up without appointments having been sent there by a GP (I presume) or having  previously been  asked by the pharmacy to come  back at a different time, and they were all sent away again because the pharmacy didn't have enough flu vaccine until the following day. I have no idea if this was due to a misunderstanding on the people's side, their GP's or the pharmacy's, but none of them were very happy, and one lady said she "couldn't keep coming back" 😭  At least one of them didn't seem to understand what he was being told, possibly due to a language issue. I felt quite sorry for the pharmacist, who was giving jabs all day on top of her usual workload but still managing to stay cheerful! Though she wasn't the one dealing with the unhappy people! I have a sore arm from the Covid jab (I chose to have the jabs in different arms), but no other ill effects so far, touch wood.
    • Line speed and the strength of your Wi-Fi signal are two separate things.  The first is determined by the type of connection (fibre/copper etc) to the outside world and the second is the connection between the device (printer/TV/laptop/tablet etc) and the router. If you are connecting a device to the router using cables (as Alec1 is) then this is will give the best possible connection but isn't practical for many without a degree of upheaval and even then not all devices (tablets for example) will allow a wired connection. So you relying on the quality of the Wi-Fi signal from the router to the device and this will depend on the quality of the router, the type of Wi-Fi connection (the frequency), line of sight etc - many different things.  This is why some people opt for a "mesh" type setup which is supposed to give a solid quality of Wi-Fi signal around the house with little or no blackspots.  It's expensive though and still requires the devices that send and receive the signal (like the plug-ins you have) to be wired to the router.
    • We have had a few cat flaps over the years but none have been electronic. They just have a small clip that you turn to lock or open.  Some come with a magnet and a matching magnet that the cat wears on its collar  This prevents other cats entering.  I've not used these as I don't like the idea of a cat wearing a collar. Cats do like to be out at night and you need to encourage yours to return after a late evening sortie. Calling, rustling treat wrappers worked for ours but he seems to have now got into the habit of coming back about 9pm. without this.
