I live in a loft with 2 roof windows in living room and bedroom

Went away for holidays and coming back i found on of the 2 double glaze cracked in both windows...

In my bedroom is the internal glass and in the living room is the external one.

Called my insurance but they don t cover broken glass apparently (which i find unbelievable as have be paying for insurance and than when you need them....How can they insurance a window without the glass?? a window is mainly glass..but that s another matter..)

I d like to have them repaired and don t know where to go: Any recommendations???

I need 2 glasses replaced..:(

I would be worried about why they cracked!

..I am worried but to be honest with You I couldn t come up with any ideas..also i have been away 10 days and have been told weather wasn t that cold to justify the crack..

Left the house in perfect condition and put timer to have heating on couple of hrs+ in the eve at minimum just not to find the house too cold when back...

I cannot explain it..any ideas??

Maybe just faulty units? Velux window cracking/shattering is not unheard of.

Personally I'd never put the "head" side of a bed below a Velux window... and when you get them fixed, make sure you ask for laminated safety glass.

Smaller panes from 97-03 are at risk of this. Check your serial code at the above link and you could save some money. We checked ours out on Monday (pane spontaneously smashed in my daughter's nursery) and they are coming to fit a replacement tomorrow.

There are many reasons why glass cracks. I would doubt that your roof window is toughened, therefore a nickel sulfide failure can most likely be ruled out. What do the cracks look like? Do you have a photograph? Could be thermal stress cracks...

yeah thermal stress fractures in glass are not unknown, especially in conservatories and roof lights (both can get pretty hot).
