Watchmaker recommendation needed

My Tag Heuer watch needs its strap fixed, the bezel reattached, and a new battery. Through official Tag Heuer channels I have been quoted the ludicrous price of nearly ?2,000 to have these repairs done. Can anyone recommend a good local watchmaker/ jeweller who may be able to carry out this work?

I don't know about locally to East Dulwich, but there's a watch repairer in the concourse of Piccadilly Circus tube station who I've used for minor repairs, and is good. If your problems with the bezel and strap are straightforward then he should be able to sort it all out for you. The battery change is a very simple thing. Though, depending on the age of your watch, he may want to change the seals on it at the same time (again, not complicated).

If your watch is at all valuable, then I would recommend you contact Duncan at Genesis Watchmaking and send it to him. He will do a first class job and should be a lot more reasonable that going through Tag Heuer:

There's a small watch stall in the covered market on Rye Lane in Peckham that's really good (sorry I don't know the name). I took my Rado there which I have had been having trouble with for years (has been sent back to the manufacturers three times - each time for 3 months!). I was so fed up with Rado I decided to get it done else where. The next time it stopped I took it around to the market (about three years ago) - they fixed it and I've not had a problem with it since.

    • Massive thank you to Stephen. Painted our whole house - and got lots of other bits sorted, too. Nothing was too much trouble, everything looks great and all came in on quote. Fantastic. Liverpool fan, but don’t hold that against him. Will 100% use again.
    • We worked with Eliot recently to get two sets of shelves built. He was excellent! Really high quality craftsmanship, communicative and lovely - I’d recommend Langley Carpentry in a heartbeat.
    • How about trying the upstairs of some local pubs like EDT? They prob won't stay open until wee small hours but worth a try... or night at Rivoli Ballroom Catford (too old?!) or somewhere up in town for drinks rather than hiring somewhere.
    • Sadly crime does seem to be going up in terms of opportunists and street crime / bike thefts etc. Lack of CCTV in this area means it's more of a target than some neighbouring areas according to police (when they sent victim support round after our car had its catalytic converter stolen twice in 6 months by organised gang complete with balaclavas, iron bars and a chainsaw.. driving a 4x4). Crime still relatively low by some parts of London standards but a worrying trend if burglars are trying their luck when people are actually home. Wonder what local police/ MP thoughts are in terms of whether they could organise more community policing patrols. I read a woman was punched in the face on/near Lordship Lane in an unprovoked attack a week or two ago. Terrifying.
