Dinner this evening, prepared by yours truly... and this is one you won't find in a recipe book. Take grilled lamb cut into tiny slithers mixed with steamed grated potato, Parmesan and carrot with butter. Served in corn tortilas dressed with mint sauce. Result? Disgusting!!

Come Dine With Me, anyone?

Anyhow, it wasn't my creation. It was offered up by a young serving boy called 'Jason' my staff at Sornoff Castle hired without my knowledge. He's currently languishing in my dungeons awaiting his punishment. Which will be most wrathful, I assure you.

Possibly! Such is my ignorance of all things culinary, that dinner actually seems quite nice!

Brum its just a bit too fussy, keep it simple - ditch the corn tortillas and parmesan and you'd have been fine ;-)

OMG. I never thought there could be a worse cook than me, but I have met my match.

Respect.

When I first met hubby all those years ago, his favourite snack was...urrghhh (*shudders*)...

...a mug of Earl Grey tea (made with condensed milk!)...and to accompany this concoction, a digestive biscuit (the man was indeed discerning: had to be a genuine digestive as opposed to a supermarket brand e.g.) broken in half with a slice of cheddar cheese carefully sandwiched between the two biscuit halves. The biscuit was then dunked into the "tea". Apparently there was a skill attached to getting it spot on: one had to time dunking time to within split-second precision...one milli-second too long an immersion resulted in not only the biscuit collapsing into the liquid but in also causing that liquid to resemble (and presumably taste like) an oil slick. Too short an immersion and the biscuit was too crunchy and the cheese insufficiently warmed.

Tea anyone?

    • Let's not forget this is the lowest level of local politics. If McCash really thought his defection could trash the Labour Party nationally, and it was loaded with invective and exhibitionism, then that's pretty much the definition of a "hissy fit"! Scooping the Green nomination for DaWN constituency is also going to be a lot harder for a Marxist arriviste than you suggest. There may be a wave of new, younger Polanski-ites that have joined the Green Party of E&W recently, but it's the long-standing, often retired members of the Party that tend to participate in candidate interview panels and bother voting in selections...
    • They've had 26 years or so of trading, and if anyone deserves decent retirement... In my view they're going out at the top. It's clearly being sold, assuming it all goes through as a very more more than just a going concern.
    • I had heard this was on the cards a while ago, sad, the end of an era, but well done Rod and Tim for stewarding a beacon of excellence for so many years.
    • Both your hopes will be fine, I think. Our waitress will stay on. The downstairs is getting refurbished, and the bar area enlarged, presumably by removing that awkward little 'lobby' by the loos.
