Some advice.

If you are about to renew your passport please take care with your photographs.

The Identity and Passport Service are now very particular with photos specifications.

I was fortunate to use the CO-OP Chemist on Lordship Lane for ours.Various photos were rejected twice and the CO-OP did them again at no charge. But the delays caused by the rejected applications due to the photos was becoming a concern.

It sounds simple but approach with caution.

If you are renewing your passport I would recommend using the Post Office Check & Send service that costs ?8 in addition to the ?77.50 Passport fee.The Post Office will advise you on the spot regarding your photograph rather than the delays with IPS rejecting it.

The ?8 is money well spent to avoid the frustration of rejections.

If you are applying direct to IPS for a first time passport or for a child under 16 please ensure you have plenty of time prior to your intended departure date.

My passport expired in December.

Can I still renew it, or do I have to make a completely fresh application?

Also, if I can renew it, can I wait till I'm actually going abroad or is there a time limit within which you have to renew?

Anyone know?

Edited to say: Gobsmacked at the fee :-S

At least you shouldn't have to go for an interview. I did last month, adds 4 weeks at least to getting one. At least the London office is at Elephant

    • If you can use it exclusively for yourself for 12 years it might become yours by default under squatters rights? Maybe whack a bench on it and plant some flowers and then a little hedge around the perimeter to keep people out? I'm not sure if any of this is legal but it might be fun finding out?

    • Dear all, Bit of a random ask but in such a supportive and accepting community, I thought I'd see if anyone had time to help 🙂 I'm conducting research for my MSc Psychology dissertation, using a brief anonymous survey to explore romantic and polyamorous relationships and how/if attitudes around this interact with factors such a family history and family making. The survey should take no longer than 10-15 mins and has been approved by the University of Roehampton. I'm hoping to circulate the survey widely enough that the data gathered is representational of the diversity in modern society across various aspects that constitutes personal identity. Some of the questions are of a personal nature and others could be considered a bit 'spicy', but just to reiterate, this is an anonymous survey.
