We'll be moving from a flat to a house soon and will need stairgates. Can you recommend a top quality stairgate, ideally one that an adult can open with one hand but that a toddler won't be able to tackle? I don't mind if they're a bit pricey, just want to have some peace of mind when our new baby arrives and I won't always be able to follow our 23 month old everywhere...

Thanks!

We have the pressure ones (think Lindam but it was a long time ago..) and you can get cups that screw into the banister end poles to allow these to work. Have worked well for us. Most toddlers can't open them as they don't have the strength or co-ordination in their hands, but there are varying degree's of difficulty if you try them out.

Someone a while ago mentioned ones that you can open using your foot, much easier if you've got a newborn in your arms they said.....but we just had pressure fitted ones that you open with one hand and they've been OK...manged to fit one downstairs with a round post too and it has been OK.

The thing I dislike about the pressure fit ones is that they have a bar across the bottom which is a bit of a trip hazard, where as the ones you fit to the wall don't have that so they are better, if you can cope with the re-decorating later.

Heard about the bars on pressure fit gates - guess for maximum comfort and minimal redecorating the ideal solution might be a pressure fit one downstairs (where the adult is less likely to trip and if they do, they won't fall down the stairs) and a wall mounted one upstairs... then again, if you're putting wood filler in one banister you might as well do two ;)

    • I’ve been seeing Lisa at goose green clinic for energy work for a year now.  Lisa is kind, caring and hugely supportive. She is wonderfully masterful and trained as a reiki master for 20 plus years. Alongside other energy work.  My time spent with her is like therapy. An emotional safe space for deep conversations and reflection followed by relaxing and energising healing work.  each experience I’ve had has been different, the end result remains the same. Feel lighter, almost euphoric and almost float home. Definitely an experience not to be missed.  https://www.goosegreenclinic.net/therapies/healing-energy-work/
