I have no doubt it is. Sorry I was just talking about it as a piece of design. I like it on that level compared to most flags. Implications and connotations aside.

So this thread was about when to put the flag up, but, England flopping out, I've been wondering what the unspoken rules are for taking it down. Do you pull it down post Germany in disgust or keep it flying until the World Cup final in defiance before quietly putting it back under the bed?

Wasn't it originally the symbol of the Swabian League and therefore essentially German?

    • Ah, thanks,  it all comes flooding back. I've actually been to the Hastings shop, I'd forgotten all about it, along with her name! Didn't she (in between?)  take over what  was then The Magnolia, previously The Magdala, now The Lordship, with her then partner? Or is that some figment of my imagination?  In fact, didn't they transform it from The Magdala (much missed) to The Magnolia? With flowery wallpaper covering the front of the bar? Which reminds me of the pub's brief period after The Magnolia  as the ill-conceived and ill-fated The Patch.

    • A belated recommendation for Iain and Paul od Oddbods who came to help me with various jobs before Christmas.  Painting ceiling, renewing silicone around bath, repairing a window sill which was almost beyond repair and hanging a large mirror.   Very happy with their work and they are friendly and very reliable and excellent at communicating.  No hesitation in recommending them.
