Not really sure where to put this, but as there's a lot of experienced mums looking at this hopefully you can advise...

I have a six month old baby and I'm still breastfeeding (mainly). My ankles and wrists are really quite sore, especially first thing in the morning. I'm also pretty knackered (even though the boy sleeps pretty well) so taking iron supplements (when I remember to). Anyone else experienced the same thing and found a remedy?

I'm assuming (possibly incorrectly) that this all relates to breastfeeding and that I'm deficient in something or other. Googling has suggested tennis elbow, but I'm not convinced.

I'd Recommend getting your thyroid checked out. Symptoms can include carpel tunnel syndrome and muscle pain. Otherwise I'd say it might just be breastfeeding, particularly the exhaustion and the wrists. Feeding can really take it out of you and I found I used to get very sore wrists from where they were supporting the baby's head during feeds.

I have really sore joints, especially my wrists, every morning too. It's happened with both my girls while breastfeeding. I was diagnosed with carpel tunnel last time and it's recurred this time (youngest daughter is 5 months). If you have pins and needles during the night and a throbbing sensation in your wrists/joints I'd go and see the doc. If it is carpel tunnel then I found that it diminished after I finished bfing. I'm on the waiting list with DMC though for physio - I had the steroid injections last time (which are horrid).

Good luck with it and please PM me if you want to chat more.

It's horrid I know - I think it's something to do with:

- holding baby in one place for lengths of time while bfing

- the elastin leaving our bodies.

Although I'm def not a medical practitioner so it's only an amateur opinion. x

    • Missing Cat! 11 months old/ Our friend, Coco, has gone missing. Last seen evening of 31st October near top of Henslowe rd where it meets Underhill Rd in SE22. We know she has started wandering up Friern Rd and further we guess but we imagine she has been spooked by Halloween / Fireworks goings on. She is a grey Siberian mix with some brown stripes down her, very friendly and likes to eat. Please let us know
    • That said, organised displays could be on Saturday before and after and the actual day, and private ones could just not have the loud ones.  It’s all down to accessibility and people caring/not caring
    • The problem this year is that 5th November falls on a Wednesday. So some places will be bringing their "bonfire night" forward to Saturday 1st and some will be knocking it back to Saturday 8th and there'll probably be a few that just go with Wednesday 5th anyway. If you're doing a public display, having it on a weekend gets more crowds. Which basically means a solid week of fireworks.
