Just been watching Location Location in ED, Peckham Rye etc and it reminded me of the horrors of buying our current place...


The psycho vendor (let's call him Jason, that was his name afterall) told us shortly before exchange (and on the same day as my wedding dress fitting, the bastard) that he was taking all the antique doorknobs with him because they had 'sentimental value' for him (aka asset stripping). He very kindly left some B&Q basics brass door handles for us to fit at our leisure when we moved in. Sounds like a small thing, but under wedding stress that was tantamount to spitting in my face.


I've been carrying that for over three years now, perhaps sharing the forum will exorcise the ghost of Jason??

That is nothing compare to my colleague, when he looked around there was wooden flooring throughout the downstairs but the day he moved in it was suddenly laminate! They also discovered a bed sgaped paint line where the previous owner couldn't be bothered to move the bed when he painted a room.


I still refer to the lady we bought our flat off as evil [insert name] for all the lies and crap she put us through. I think home buying is rarely trouble free.

We moved into one house to find not only bare wires where previously there had been light fittings but also holes in the garden where previously there had been roses and other shrubs.


Then, three years later, when we had to sell up to find somewhere we could share with elderly parents [here in ED] we received a letter from the previous owner accusing us of quote "making an excessive profit" on their much loved family home.

My Horrid Mother...



She bought a house from an Archiect, oh & how she crowed about it's loveliness ...



Well until the day she moved in that was, he'd stripped the place bare; handles, towel rails, thermostatic rad valves



He even took the flex from the light fittings...



She was a bit "miffed" to say the least...



( I was " surprisingly "overjoyed & if I ever feel down, that still makes me smile :)) )

PGC has succinctly explained the position in her post.


Offensive or not the correct terminology for the female species of dog is the word "bitch" and if you don't like it, take it up with the producers of the Oxford English dictionary.


I think you have a brass neck to come here with the affrontary, the gaul, the audacity, the irony of a foreign national telling me how I should phrase my native language in my own country, to coin a phrase of another erudite lady forumista "how very dare you".


American Robin stop your bitching, if you do not like what is posted, stop reading it, you surely do not expect to change everyone to adhere to your inaccurate rules of prose.

      Are we now under a flight path?

      In 2016 London City Airport began using concentrated flight paths. When there's a predominantly westerly wind, incoming aircraft approach from East London (north of the River). When there's a predominantly Easterly wind, incoming aircraft approach the airport from the West: circling through Forest Hill, Dulwich, Vauxhall, Tower Hamlets, Docklands. This latter flight path affects many of us in South East London. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/london-city-airport-concentrated-flight-paths The planes going into City are often below 2,000 ft, so very noisy. Sometimes we have incoming Heathrow at the same time, flying higher. The early flights that I hear e.g. 04:30 are incoming to Heathrow. They are scheduled to land at 05:30 but are 'early'. Apparently the government allows a percentage of flights to arrive early and late (but these are now established as regular occurrences, informally part of the schedule). IMHO Londoners are getting very poor political representation on this issue. Incredible that if you want to complain about aircraft noise, you're supposed to contact the airport concerned! Preposterous and designed solely in favour of aviation expansion.

      Yet another recommendation for Jafar. Such a nice guy, really reliable and fair. He fixed a problem with our boiler and then incredibly kindly made two more visits to replace a different part at no extra cost.

      I didn't have any problems with plane noise until city airport started flying planes to and from about 5-8 minutes apart from 5.30 am or  6 am,  and even with ear plugs and double glazing I am woken at about 6 well before I usually would wake  up. I have lived here since 1986 and it is relatively recently that the planes have been flying far too low over East dulwich. I very much doubt that they are headinbg to Heathrow or from Heathrow. As the crow flies we are much , MUCH closer to City Airport than Heathrow or Gatwick. I even saw one flying so low you could see all the windows, when I was in Peckham Rye Park.
