  1. Anyone know Scott Morrison. Just found his wallet in Dulwich.
  2. I don't think it'll matter what the local councils in London do they will by their half baked ideologies more often than not screw it up. Social media types will by their nature throw a hissy fit what ever decisions are made. Instead of speed bumps and purpose built cycle lanes (which cyclists avoid) that actually increase pollution, our money would have been better spent on speed cameras / cctv on every street in the capital with law enforcement to back it all up.
  3. I went to a local ED newsagents to buy a first class stamp and the woman behind the counter tried selling it to me for ?1. It is meant to be 76 pence. She tried justifying the 30% mark up as it's a Cash & Carry. There doesn't seem to be any law against hiking the price of a postage stamp but what she failed to recognise is she'd have made a bigger profit on the father's day card I was about to purchase if she'd sold it at face value like her associates in that same shop have done in the past. I honestly didn't know a local business was willing to fleece it's previously loyal customer.
  4. Only just came across this, I certainly did not receive any comms from the council on voting. I note only 860 people voted so sounds like it was a bit of a closed shop. Dulwich Healthcare Centre would have made a lot of sense to me, but I suppose if they'd put that on the shortlist then people might have voted for that as the new name..
  5. Bit embarrassing for those caught on camera in Daily Mail as I'm sure their silhouettes are recognisable to their friends and family. There is a general lack of common sense but nothing quite beats the two women I saw outside M&S recently who kept minimum of 2 metres apart BUT both lovingly cuddled the same dog (I'm sure there was also some dog tongue involved as well).
  6. I think that these guys are handling hundreds of bins on their route so it's almost certain some will have the virus passed onto it by the house holder and consequently passed down the chain by the bin man. You should avoid touching the surface of the bins and that's why it is better for the bins to be returned to original position. No one is going to leave their bin on pavement for a few days, whereas they are more likely not to fill bins for a few days (allowing enough time for virus to clear which I understand may up to few days). Either way always wash hands immediately after handling bins. 7. I suspect the council will not have enough people signed up and will then not be able to sustain weekly collection of garden waste as I'd imagine the previous budget for this collection has already been reallocated.
  8. Lucky I saw the option of challenging it online to see the clearer photos otherwise I'd be heading towards ?200 fine. So I'm putting this experience down to saving myself ?135!
  9. I've just gone onto the web site to the challenge it, and the photos are clearer and I've made a mistake. It's on the other corner (the one corner you cannot turn left). I recollect now a few weeks ago driving down Peckham Rye and there was a huge log jam, did a u-turn and took an illegal left turn.. in the other photos you can see a van in front of me has led the way with a left turn as well. Ouch! They must have a made a lot of money that day the council :-(
  10. Nah there is enough in the photo for them to work out it's taking a left turn at the junction from East Dulwich Road onto Peckham Rye.
  11. These are the two photos which prove my innocence. One me taking a left turn from the roadside camera, and the second a photo I took yesterday approaching the junction where it is clearly marked you can take a left turn.
  12. Click on the google link - https://goo.gl/maps/h5YTW4QunvxmEKYr9 I took a left at this junction down Peckham Rye.. and that this is the penalty notice i received
  13. No not bus lane. It was penalty from Southwark council for taking left turn. They attached the photo from a roadside camera of me taking left hand turn at that junction.
  14. I have had a penalty notice for taking a left turn off East Dulwich Road onto Peckham Rye.. anyone received one of these for this particular junction? I have taken a left turn at that spot hundreds of times in the past. In the penalty notice it says I did not follow the arrow on a blue sign which I do not recall ever being.. obviously I know you cannot take a right turn onto Peckham Rye but this is news to me not being able to take a left turn.
  15. I hope these people who come up with these ideas at the council are not getting a pay rise out of this ridiculous add on tax - yes there may be people who don't use garden waste but surely that is already reflected in the council tax bandings where you tend to have a bigger garden the higher the tax banding.
  16. It'll be a relief to me if they put the parking permit on my street, only few days ago I had to park few streets away. So many house conversions, disabled bays, double yellow lines on street corners have made it a nightmare 24x7. Unfortunately the permits are only Mon to Sat 8 am to 6.30 pm (I believe) but hopefully it helps. Clearly not all streets are in need of draconian restrictions but in my neck of the woods west of Melbourne grove it is horrendous especially with the school and hospital soon bringing in extra cars. Why the council are jeopardizing this being approved by lumping in rest of East Dulwich is baffling.
  17. Has anyone got a recommendation for a joiner? Book of work. Probably take 3 or 4 days to complete :- New wooden skirting boards in lounge New wooden skirting boards in kitchen area Fix internal wooden doorway panel Fix back wooden dado rail running downstairs to front door Fix back wooden picture rails in lounge Boxing (wood) horizontal pipes and vertical pipes into boiler Making wooden sink cabinet Plaining down bottom of concertinaed oak doors and internal hardwood door Make good joining between kitchen tile floor and lounge laminated floor Architraves on either side of internal door frame
  18. I'd like to recommend Sam Webb who recently did an excellent job for me, over 3 or 4 weeks, plastering and rendering my house. The plastered finish is very impressive even on high ceilings. He also rendered an external wall (approx 25 foot long by 8 ft high) back to the brick work to a very fine finish. He was very hard working, kept the place clean, and arrived promptly at 8am each day, and was able to sustain his pace and quality from start to finish. You'll probably not find any other EDF recommendations on Sam because he lives in Orpington and was sub contracted by a building firm & insurance company to perform the work and subsequently additional private work at a fair price. He will do private work in East Dulwich. You can reach him on 07950 349264
  19. Curmudgeon "That said, my son managed to get to Kingsdale which is closer to 3 miles by walking, now cycles..and yes from the age of 11" Walking the gauntlet between Camberwell Green / Peckham Road and Southampton Way is not to be confused with a stroll through Dulwich Village imo. Best stick to school designated buses.
  20. TCSED - there is no indication on your plan as to number of carparking space it may accommodate. I understand there is no magic number but I think it's important for the plan to show maximum number of carparking spaces it will be able to accommodate. There is no point finding out after the plan has been implemented that it will only accommodate 30 cars and CPZ has been enforced in surrounding residential area.

In a densely populated area it's not about how far one is able to walk, it's about how many pupils live within a certain radius of the main school gate, on Jarvis road, before it reaches capacity. It maybe that 1600 pupils live within 1000 metres (that would be the catchment area).
  22. I read the Guardian story some time ago so surprised that they have not been consistent in their reasons for their new school - it seems to me that the RPH argument on it not being social segregation can now be dismissed and should be revisited. As a minimum both schools must have same policy. Anyway, "safe walking route" is of course an interpretation, some people might say the unsafe walkway is actually a safer walk than a walk where trucks and buses are hurtling towards you at high speed.
  23. Why are double standards used for pupil allocation rules between the two Charter schools? i.e. safest walk distance versus straight-line distance. The Charter School North Dulwich* - "the distance from each applicant?s home to the designated main entrance of the school by the shortest safe walking distance route in metres" The Charter School East Dulwich** - "The distance from each child?s home to the school ... the finish point is proposed to be sited on the school site boundary closest to Jarvis Road. Distance is measured in meters and on a straight-line basis" * http://www.charter.southwark.sch.uk/attachments/download.asp?file=79&type=pdf ** http://www.charter.southwark.sch.uk/_files/8C9BF13CE2F442A35187158B2F6BD1C5.pdf
  24. I keep reading that the local area is too expensive to live in for those earning school wages and hence staff will be coming from further south and with a poor train service I'd venture the vast majority of school employees will drove to work. It's naive to think that quality teachers, who have a choice of location, would choose a school without a high level of free parking.
