  1. No I cannot guarantee that Muley. There'd probably always be one noisy dog who'd cause a nuisance to the neighbours at kennel time... with that in mind we should not just roll over and cater for the needs of the dog owner :-)
  2. Sue, isn't that the same argument for dog owners? Should dog owners not be able to demand dog kennels on the street?
  3. Some people are lighter sleepers than others Jeremy, so yes people faffing around with bike locks, closing bike hanger door late at night or early morning is not a win-win situation for all neighbours whose bedrooms overlook the contraption. Now it all depends on how considerate the users of the bike shed are but what if they're the same bunch who don't give a damn about pedestrians on London Bridge each morning, are they going to give a hoot?
  4. I'd rather see the street lined with aesthetically pleasing German cars than this heap of bike shed junk - why can't they just put in the docking stations like with the Boris bikes. The proposed bike shed design really is an eyesore, okay maybe it looks good on an allotment garden but on the street please, do me a favour!
  5. Yes correct DulwichFox, there are about 35,000 people living in East Dulwich, and so far only a handful of people have shown support for bike sheds on their doorstep but it is somehow assumed that the rest of us are doing cartwheels over the idea of these pieces of metal junk lining our streets. Would it not be better to plant a tree at each of these proposed sites?
  6. Absolutely LadyDeliah :-) As you say, cyclists have a right to have their needs catered for... dog walkers, sunbathers, and those wanting a good night sleep are not currently in vogue :-(
  7. We are talking about the bike shed mate not the bike... i.e. any banging from the opening and closing of the overhanging metal door rather than the rotation of the bicycle wheels lol
  8. LadyDeliah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- "Not as ugly as oil spills, air pollution, emphysema and asthma. " ..and not as ugly as planting a new tree or a bed of roses in those proposed bike shed spots "unless you don?t consider cyclists as legitimate road users/tax payers/people with a right to have their needs catered for too." What about the rights of people wanting to use the bus - what about the ridiculous idea of a bus stop on every street? "Bikes run on fat and save you money, cars cost you money and make you fat" Cyclists will lose even more fat if they have a 10 minute walk to bike lockers at Peckham Common or East Dulwich train station :-)
  9. Just based on my opinion and that of my neighbour - not so much the appearance of it but what I think is the inevitable noise disturbance which I'd expect a potential buyer to factor into their property valuation. Maybe give estate agent a ring, if you're concerned, for their view. I think if it was uncovered like you see with motorbike parking then okay not a huge deal, just an eyesore, but does it look like a contraption that isn't going to be a noise problem occasionally late at night or in early morning when someone accidently or lazily bangs it shut?
  10. I'm not surprised some residents have not received a questionnaire on their views when it has so much potential to cause noise disturbance during sleeping hours as people come and go faffing around locking/unlocking their bike, and then occasionally let it slam shut. Bang. Hello graffiti. Bad idea. Devalues properties in immediate area. This is what it looks like. I'm opposing it.
  11. I complained to one member of station staff a few weeks ago, and politely asked why my train was late. She shrugged her shoulders and sipped her hot drink by the turnstile heater whilst I shivered in the cold. I then asked her to get the station manager. She said no, I asked why not, she shrugged her shoulders, smiled and carried on sipping her drink. The daily problems are not acts of God.
  12. Judging by the station staff slumped at the barriers we can assume they don't give a damn. Six months of excuses. Its a simple enough exercise but for those that have to execute it every day it is probably for them too complex.
  13. That's to be expected I think with more contention on the tracks leading into LB. What I did not expect however was trains departing East Dulwich each morning earlier than the advertised departure time. If 8:40 on the platform clock means 8:39 then either change the clock or the timetable. This happens on the 8.30 as well. It would be nice to know the logic - and if it is indeed logic, then why did we had an illogical system for so many years (or rather trains leaving at time advertised).
  14. On the whole they seem to be a happier bunch in there than you usually come across who are working in London.
  15. Putting heavier items in the bottom draws may help stability.
  16. Why don't you ring up Worcester / Bosch itself, and find out how much they charge for their engineer to visit and repair - as I know to come out and repair a Bosch Gas Hob that Bosch charge ?99 so maybe also competitive for one of their own Bosch Boilers vs Plumber.
  17. A Spanish friend of mine Yoli, who lives with her husband in Borough, is renting her fully furnished apartment in Spain during July and August for 750 Euros per week (approx ?610). The apartment is situated in San Vicente which is 5km from Alicante. It is a family friendly, modern and nice apartment block in a quiet and sunny position - including shared swimming pool and paddling pool, with own car parking space. Apartment is air conditioned and has large lounge, kitchen, bathroom, terrace and 3 double bedrooms. This is the youtube video they have done showcasing their apartment (the payment/deposit details are towards end of video in Spanish, English & French from the 6m 39s mark) You can reach Yoli by email: layoli81@hotmail.es
  18. I am all for better quality food being on our doorstep - secondly when you buy / rent a home near a high street or rail track (which incidentally is reflected in the price) don't expect the immediate area to be rolled back into countryside.. this is economic progress. Flip a coin, M&S or 24 hr McDonald's Drive-Thru..
  19. Read my post, understand it then make your judgement - not the other way round :)
  20. On a cold day with no Rooney, Ronaldo, Nani or Gary Neville bad boy Evra was always going to kop it for managing to walk away scot-free from the Suarez bust-up in October. It seems that Evra making derogatory remarks about Suarez's origin (and his own racial abuse of Chelsea players) is something that those on their high horses would prefer to ignore.
  21. It's a while since I made a post on this thread but having been logged in just wanted to make a few comments. Obviously there has been bit of a witch hunt in the media recently and it's not really a surprise. However Suarez did make a racial remark to Evra that is rightly regarded an offensive in the UK, I'd like to think the UK still leads the way in that respect between right and wrong. However what grates with Liverpool fans, or it does with me at least, is the apparent double standards not just with Patrice Evra but also John Terry. We know Ferguson will be wincing at the draw for the FA Cup and probably regretting his belittling of peace talks that Liverpool wanted with United to try and calm down the hostility between the Clubs. It's certainly a big fixture and I am sure it will be blown out of all proportion by the mindless hackers in the media but at the end of the day it's gonna be one hell of a football match!
  22. The Guardian.. do me a favour. What is needed is a crack down, and to hose this scum off the streets.
  23. Most NOTW readers may find it too challenging to paint by numbers so I won't recommend that to take it's place
  24. I wonder whether the super injunction was motivated by needing to keep a lid on the follow up story that has transpired because that is far more explosive than the Imogen affair.
  25. Few headlines this morning that Phil Jones move to United is in tatters. Apparently United thought they'd only have to pay the ?16.5m release clause - but are reportedly having to now offer nearer to the ?22m Liverpool have now put on the table to complete deal. Seems a bit odd as Rovers had already allowed him to speak with United and take a medical. As for Ryan Giggs well (Steven Gerrard was also under the spotlight on these same pages when he was innocent of carrying on with his sister-in-law) it strikes me that there is a rotten culture at United. Whether Fergie will drum the player out of Old Trafford is questionable - but it's a shame his otherwise clean image has well and truly been destroyed. I think it's fair to say that over the last 20 years, of United players, it was Ryan Giggs who was held in high regard by opposition fans across the country. How he will now react to hostile crowds I don't know. He will certainly be amongst people who themselves have first hand experience, but how will this effect his game. Is it time for Giggs to now do the honourable thing and quit football so he brings no further disgrace upon the image of Manchester United?
