Hi all

I am 5.5months pregnant and i am a bit confused about ANTENATEL classes, i have sent the form off that i was given by my midewife but have not heard anything back. So i am assuming they are full. If this is the case can anyone recommend any good classes in East Dulwich area? I am also confused about when you are suppose to start these classes.

This is my first baby, so any info will be much appreciated.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

call them to check whether they actually received your form, I got to about 7 months before I called and was told that there was no record of me and the first available course started about a week before I was due and ran for three weeks!

The lady I spoke to took pity on me (I cried) and said we could sit in on the last evening of the one she had running, which we did. My baby was almost 4 weeks early so we never actually made it to our course, and missed out on all of the labour and birth information!

It wasn't the end of the world obviously as nothing can reeeaally prepare you for every eventuality and there is a lot of information available in other places but I do wish I had called earlier...

Best of luck :o)

I ended up calling Kings as I never heard anything back from them, they said they never received my form, but managed to book me in over the phone. I started the classes at 36 weeks, which worked in well as I had just started my maternity leave, so didn't have to take anymore time off work.

My NHS classes started when I was about 35 weeks pg and I did not manage to see the course through either as babay came a bit early. Would not expect to hear anything til about 7 months.

so far as I know the nly alternative is NCT - they have a web site but you have to pay (unless you can show you are on benefits etc I think)

I had to chase Kings after I didn't hear anything from them and they also told me that they never received my form. I was lucky enough to book onto a course over the phone and was about 34 weeks when they started and a lot further than anyone else. Definitely chase Kings, I think I had to keep calling everyday for a week before I got to speak to the correct person.

    • Was that the Hare Krishna place? I can't remember exactly where it was (or maybe still is) but it was somewhere around Oxford Street.
    • The "for sale" section on this forum lets people offer things for free or cheaply. And the "wanted" section let's people ask for things they want or need, for free or cheaply. There are also existing schemes like Freecycle, and also local  food banks. And there is (or was) a local scheme where you can bring things to be repaired free. I think it is/was based in Nunhead. Isn't that simpler than having a barter system? You might have something to give away, but the person who wants it might not have anything you want. Or have I misunderstood how it works? I can see that offering services free might not fit into existing schemes, but depending on what they were, what would happen if things went horribly wrong eg someone wrecked your house? Sorry if the above sounds very negative.
    • I'm wondering why they would do that? Because surely positive reviews could only help them, and if they thought they might get negative reviews, shouldn't they have been addressing the reasons that might be (unless someone had an unwarranted grudge against them)? But in any case, how could they have stopped people posting reviews on here? PS I have corrected your typo! 😃
    • Agreed. Just stating as a historic fact they tried to stiffle reviews.
