Just had a long chat with a friend who is having problems with The Charter - feel a little concerned as she is such a positive person who has always supported our local state schools - has anyone else had issues with the school? - should state that I don't have a child there and have no personal issue, just appalled with their approach to pastoral care and lack of communication

I really think it depends what you are comparing it with. Communication falls away naturally at secondary school and state schools are not so well resourced as private schools. We did not get into Charter school, but from speaking with friends there i wouold say its communication is better than some other state secondaries by quite abit- although the student can be the breakdown in communication sometimes.

Hi hilili,

Obviously I can only comment on my own experience but my son is in year 7 at Charter and I have no problems at all, Infact I am very impressed with the comunication from the school, We quite often get texts and letters in the post regarding various matters and always feel very 'in the loop' so to speak.

In my experience the communication was very good about general matters but not so with individual student problems. I have no children there at the moment but will be starting again with year 7 in September. I have reservations about going back to Charter but I have heard from current parents that things have improved.

    • Is it possible for someone to change the heading, because it is not clear that this "fatality" has not just happened. I'm not sure that the OP still posts on here. Admin?
    • A couple of updates to this terrible event:   1) In 2021, two cousins (one from Penge and one from Streatham) were convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 23 years in prison. • The Commons Public Accounts Committee questioned both the CEO and MD of Capita yesterday, at their last meeting before the recess:  https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25889/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/.  In October they'd already expressed concern that Capita might not  be able to efficiently retake over responsibility for the administration within the timescale. Given the joint statement recently issued by Capita and the Cabinet Office I'm not sure that contacting an MP is going to add much, other than venting what I think most of us can probably appreciate of what those affected are likely  to be thinking and feeling; unless perhaps, and I hope it's not needed, to report on deficiencies in the immediate rescue actions.
    • She's responded, but I'm sure I read something in the Guardian consumer advice column. Might be some pointers if you're stuck
