I think some pubs should be allowed to be smoking again (or else have a smoking room) as it would then stop people standing outside smoking. It must be very unpleasant for nearby residents and passers-by.

You do sound defensive even if you taking the p***. My attitude towards smoking has changed because I have seen lots of health problems caused (not only to children) by smoking. Lung cancer, emphysema, leg amputations due to circulation problems caused by smoking are a few. I used to live next to a couple who were heavy smokers and the smoke came up through the floorboards into my under-stairs cupboard in my kitchen. It was foul. I could hear them coughing all the time through the walls in the house. The smoke used to waft over the garden fence into my garden. No one thinks a smoking related illness will happen to them. The optimism of youth.
As I've said before, I have a sneaking and growing regard for those mums and dads who stand in the kids bits of the local parks puffing away, apparently oblivious to the obvious and venemous hatred pouring out of the eyes of the parenthood of SE22/21/24

Don't worry, they're probably dead now. That'll learn them.

have you tried calling the police?

Frankly, I think it should be encouraged. People are living too long. The government would save money in the long run by lowering taxes on cigarettes. If people die younger the others will not have to retire later and pension funds would recover.

You judgmental bastard. We disapprove, sniff, roll our eyes and dislike people based solely on appearance in SE15 too, you know.

Good point. Why don't you put it on the new coalition website?

Cate.

How many people contributing to this thread? Most of them parents. Most of them non-smokers (including me, virtually).

Leaving aside your general smoking-related warnings (the nuts and bolts of which everyone I'm sure mostly agrees with and have been well aware of for twenty years.. thanks though..) - leaving that aside - with regards to your specific chastisement of Keef and his discreet smoking.. you're (literally) on your own.

That ought to tell you something.

Thanks for the lecture. I appreciate it.

Fixed that for you.

There's no glory in smoking.

Indeed, if there's one thing I've learned today, it's that even I gave up a quarter of a century ago, all that awaits me is a long, lingering, painful and early death on a Navajo Indian reservation, possibly preceded by the amputation of limbs, with only a premature baby to mourn me.

    • I am an experienced, self-employed gardener and I have been maintaining gardens in East Dulwich and the surrounding area for the last few years.  I am now starting to move away from garden maintenance work in order to specialise in garden consultancy and design. The combination of my design background and love of plants makes this a natural progression for me. I can provide my clients with: Bespoke, on-site garden consultations (one-off or seasonal) - Plant advice e.g. pruning/dividing/training demonstrations, advice on growing problems, what plant where, container gardens. Design - Ideas to revamp an outside space, drawings of new layouts, site specific planting plans. • Thought a bit of balance was useful, for many there are loud disturbances over much of the year. Not sure if several days of noise from  a festival is worse than the asses who regularly use lounge power tools, in particular to cut through steel.  This forum is anything but positive.  I was being a little mischievous.  Yes loud DIY projects and builders working out of hours does get my goat.  But not enough to start a thread of proper rant.
