SeanMacGabhann
very good PeckhamGateCrasher - I like that...on a more serious note, I'm glad we got the 3 points yesterday but we were poor and a supposedly weakened Spurs team defended much much better than they have so far this season... in short, we were lucky. And that's ok, teams vying for the title need luck sometimes Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1210-football-focus/page/54/#findComment-64531 Share on other sites
atila the gooner
Good teams make their own luck, Spuds put everyone behind the ball and defended as if their lives depended on it. Saving a penalty takes far more than just luck. Let's see how good they are over two legs in the Worthless cup.;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1210-football-focus/page/54/#findComment-64532 Share on other sites

Annasfield
Our result was pretty good, and was definitely worth spending 6 hours on the train for. :))Not sure what game Pompey were playing, but hopefully we can get maximum points over xmas. atila the gooner
Wenger certainly didn't say we were second best because we weren't, as for being lucky, it takes skill to save a penalty and skill to take one. I'll leave you to decide which of the sides were better at the two skills. ;-) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1210-football-focus/page/54/#findComment-64589 Share on other sites
Keef
I disagree, most goal keepers will tell you they choose where to dive, and hope for the best, it's as simple as that."Spurs were the sharper ones and the better team in the first half". SeanMacGabhann
I heard the dicussions on Sky yesterday and apparently it wasn't just a guess - the Arsenal team had discussed Keane's penalty taking before the game and knew that Keane likes keepers to commit before kicking the ball - that's why Almunia stayed up for so long and chose correctlyThat said the penalty wasn't up to his usual standard and could easily have gone past Almunia had it been better Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1210-football-focus/page/54/#findComment-64620 Share on other sites

And we're still top of the league. Something Spuds will not experience for many moons. You seem to be implying that a goal keepers skill is in some way inferior to that of a penalty taker. As someone who still plays( or tries to at 50 years of age), and has a son who can play as an outfield player or in goal, I can assure you that it is not. As a penalty taker you have to outwit the keeper by scoring. Keane failed to to do so. That is not being smug, but a plain and simple fact. Jah Lush
I thought Spurs performance was pretty good. We defended very well with a makeshift defence. First half was quite dull and fought out in the midfield but I thought for the first 20 minutes or so of the second half we were the better team. Berbatov's well taken goal from an acute angle was pure class. Still, Keane blew it for us by missing the penalty. We lost, the best team won. Simply really. Still bloody hurts though.
