We live on Everthorpe Road, which lies between Oglander and Copleston Road at the Grove Vale end.

Over the last few days a friendly short-haired black cat has been coming in through our cat flap, trying to adopt us it seems!

They are average size, doesn't look very young, doesn't meow at all, all black, no white patches, and has one white whisker on the right side as you look at him. Can't tell if male or female, but we may take them to a vet to check for a chip, and then check the sex then.

They seem in good health and their coat looks well so i don't think they're a stray but am wondering if they are a local cat whose owners have gone away perhaps as the cat seems keen for company.

Have spoken with local neighbours but they don't know, so maybe they are from further afield.

If you recognise the cat in the attached pictures, please let us know.

Thanks,

Simon.

It is very possible that this is our cat... she loves to wander the gardens between Oxenford and Everthrope and she is very sociable - she used to go in our next door neighbours flat when the neighbour left her back door open and she would sit and watch the neighbour do her washing up in the kitchen and meow at her. She is terribly vocal - she would be doing her best to communicate with you constantly with her meow's so if this cat isn't doing that I don't think it's her! One photo it looked like her but the other not so much .... it could be a black cat that lives somewhere on Marsden Road or Ondine Road .... I was stuck by the Marsden/Ondine black cat's resemblence to ours, except it was abit more stocky.
Are we talking about same poster? As there are posters up re a lost black and white cat, the one I saw was a small poster, all black cat, haven't seen poster anywhere else other than on lampost on corner between Oxenford and copleston. Doesn't give much detail. Good luck with solving who it belongs to.

Raised by Bears - no, our friendly visitor doesn't have a collar. We tried putting a paper collar on with our contact details but they hated that and tore it off quickly.

Turtle - no news yet. We've gone away for a week, so if they're still visiting when we return, we'll take them to the ver to see if they're chipped.

  • 2 weeks later...
Found: one elderly male black and white cat, been regularly seen by skips and bins in Honour Oak Park area for a few weeks and mentioned in local forums. Picked up in Honour Oak Park on Tues 20th Sept, checked over by the lovely folks at CHAT Lewisham but not microchipped unfortunately. Currently being cared for. He is very friendly and has clearly been loved. Please get in touch with a photo or description for verification if anyone thinks he belongs to them. Thanks

    • You can't have zero tolerance unless you live in a fascist/police state.  Sadly it is something you have to accept in a democracy.  There has always been crime, even in North Korea, the Soviet bloc, Nazi Germany, Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge etc.   The discussion point is how big a police force we need and capabilities, punishment, and building communities.  And how much we are prepared to pay in extra taxation. Even in the good (economic) times there is crime.  And crime under both Labour and Tory governments. I do not accept that phone thefts and parcel thefts are just statistics.  Police have to prioritise what they do, we might not agree with it.  And most criminals are multi-tasking, moving to where the best return is considering the risk of being caught. And there has to be a market, someone somewhere needs to buy a stolen product (I never buy off Gumtree). A starting point would be to decriminalise all illegal drugs, but that is definitely for a separate Lounge conversation, interesting discussion paper here: https://kar.kent.ac.uk/105520/1/A. Stevens - In defence of the decriminalisation of drug possession in the uk - PPDF.pdf Did you watch any of the series of Peaky Blinders?  This was a very popular series that glorified gang crime and violence.  Funny (ironic) that may enjoy films and TV that does this.  Although only the first series had any historical accuracy in it,  Criminal gangs were around before and ever since.
    • Ah the oldest cliche in the book   ”I would leave if…”   but you wouldn’t leave if farage was prime minister ?
    • It seems we have to accept a certain level of crime as normal now… phone thefts, car thefts, parcels stolen from doorsteps…. they are just recorded as statistics.  When it’s invasive ( numerous home invasions in my street recently), one reported on the forum recently, Evri delivery had his car stolen, the man attacked in PRP a couple of weeks ago, reports of violent and threatening youths also in PRP… it goes on and on.  And now this poor woman brutally assaulted in daylight on a busy street. NONE of this is acceptable. There should be ZERO tolerance for such criminal acts. There is no denying the police have too much to deal with and not enough resources. It’s disgusting. It’s a misappropriation of public funds. More should be invested on our police force.
