Just a quick (and probably stupid...) one; I seem to be rather ill (temperature, vomiting, stomach cramps) and I'm not sure if it's okay to nurse my son whilst I am feeling so dodgy. I suspect if he is going to get my virus, it'll happen anyway through close contact but one of the nurses at Kings yesterday told me I couldn't breastfeed him?

Also, he's with a family member today 'till 6 oclock so obviously won't be nursing him in the day, but I can't express either. Am I going to totally lose my milk supply?

Thanks all!

I dont see how you can transmit a virus through your breastmilk especially if you express and have someone else feed your baby. But in any case if you are worried about milk supply express when you would do a feed and that way you will keep up milk production

You'll be fine breastfeeding him, (Well, you'll feel like rubbish, but he'll be fine.) and I don't know how old he is but if you've been breastfeeding for months and months then your supply will be well enough established to be able to take the odd slow day. Feed him as soon as he gets home and his usual evening/night feeds and he'll be fine on formula for when he's not with you.

I know lots of people who have gone back to work at 4/5/6 months. They manage to swtich fine between formula duing the day on workdays and then full time breastmilk at the weekends.

I have had a vomiting bug two times, with stomach cramps etc and I still breastfed my son, he didn't get ill as I believe my breast milk gave him immunity because as I was fighting the bug, it would have been passed to him. I have been told that even when I am ill, I can still breastfeed unless I take medication that is not safe for baby.

    • that is one cliche-ridden post headnun    it doesn’t mean a sack of beans in the real world  “old fashioned voters” meaning the ones dragging the country down this last 15 years just to laugh at the libs tears. Well done all  I’m not looking back at all. This is not a post Europe world in any sense. There are forces bigger than Europe but uk would be better aligning with Europe against, say, china, the pretending we live in some post Europe world.    and in case you hadn’t noticed, whoever you vote for, there are a LOT of ignorant racists feeling very happy with their resurgence - I would fight against them if I were you
    • No they aren't. You're coming across as a smug, superior liberal, and that's what old fashioned voters (labour, Cons and now Reform) hate. That 'the deplorables' 'they're all ignorant racists' line is what's driving people away from the traditional parties and towards Reform.  You're as guilty of looking back as Labour. This is a new, post-europe world and we all need to come to terms with that, make do with what we have, and move forward.
    • I have sympathy with any voter, anyone, who having witnessed the last 14 years and then Labour in the last year and wonders just how can things be this bad  unless a) they voted for brexit b) voted Tory after 2010 c) is thinking of voting reform  because anyone who thinks reform won’t make things a thousand times worse after voting for the previous?  It is they who are the problem.  They are the reason the country is in the doldrums with an embarrassingly-timid Labour government  Specifically Chris mason - a not very bright right leaning stooge - large part of why bbc news has become grok-level slop
    • In what way? Maybe it just felt more intelligent and considered coming directly after Question Time, which was a barely watchable bun fight.
