When to stop using an electric steriliser for babies bottles?

Hi there,

I cannot remember when I can stop using the Avent steriliser to sterilise babies bottles? Hubbie thinks 12 months, however not sure.

When did you stop using it?

I think it's 12 mths too

Mine broke when my daughter was 6 months so I stopped then. I figured everything else was going in her mouth so as long as her bottles were cleaned properly there wasn't a need to sterilise.

I stopped first child at 8 months and second child at 6 months. I too thought that as soon as they were able to crawl and put things into their mouth that sterilising a bottle was pointless!

I found myself thinking the same after i offered my 7 month old a sterlised bottle of milk (using boiled water) after he'd just managed to wriggle out of my arms and lick the London-Brighton train window...

Oh phew - I hate the horrid thing. Now little c is just about 7 months I guess it can go to the big sterile palace in the sky.

yep we stopped at 9 months, don't know why bothered for so long considering what all went in his mouth. though they say it's because of the particular nasties you can get in the way of milk bugs I think.

Belle is right, I think - milk is thought to create nastier bugs than even the nastiest stuff your baby might pick up off the floor... 12 months is recommended.

(Having said that, all these guidelines are overly safety-conscious I think...)
