Not wanting to make this a competition, but when I lived on Dunstans Road I had the fuel cap on my Jaguar forced off three or four times. Each time it cost me ?20 in parts to fix. The killer bit was it had an 83 litre tank...

Sad to say that it was actually a factor in us moving house.

is this still going on? I sold my car last year but i was targeted twice by these thieves. my neighbor told me that he saw them doin it but didnt want to get involved because he was on his own. He said there were 2 of them with trolleys that elderly people use for shopping (they must have had a small tank in there) but it was to dark to get a description. shocking to read about the lack of interest from the police. I reported it as well but didnt hear anything back from them

if there are a group of people around Overhill / Underhill road - all bike users only (fuel theives need not apply or respond), why don't we hire a southwark garage together. They cost around 20 quid a week and should comfortably hold 6-8 bikes. We can share the cost and should get a few benefits like reduced insurance costs and not having to pay for bike parts and fuel all the time - not to mention the sheer inconvenience of having to trek to buy fuel, go get repairs made etc.

If you're interested, please pm me and if there are enough people, I will try and find one that is well located for everyone.

Costs will be a share of the garage costs and the cost of a key.

We are on Belvoir Road, has happened to our scooter about 5 times now; the only thing we can do to help it is secure the cover tightly looping the lock/chain thru the eyelets in the cover and firming it tight up against the bike, makes them work a little harder at least.

Ild be interested in a communal garage option if there are enough of us and the location is right.

    • My bike (a ELOPS 120 step over classic from Decathlon) was stolen from outside The Belham this afternoon. I locked it up while I collected my kids, then the street was so busy that I left it there while I walked them home. Did a few other things at home, came back about 5.30pm and it was gone. Sharing just in case anyone sees it or finds it anywhere - it’s a few years old and the chain is a bit rusty/makes a clicking sound so maybe there’s a slight chance someone would dump it! Really annoying and just a reminder to be really careful with bikes. The picture shows the bike model from the Decathlon website.
    • Thanks, I didn't know that.  People are even more stupid than I thought then, if they are willing to wait hours in A&E for an ingrown toenail. I presume they don't get put at the front of the queue. Why isn't the 111 service more widely advertised? That puts you in touch with a doctor, who will advise on the phone or visit, and if necessary  you will be advised to go to A&E or they will arrange an ambulance to take you.
    • It hasn't devolved. It's in exactly the same state it was when it started.
    • A&E isn't allowed to turn people away at the triage stage, even people with hiccups and ingrown toenails... the kinds of ailments a GP might be able to advise against seeking emergency care for. https://www.england.nhs.uk/2025/12/aes-under-siege-from-hiccups-and-ingrowing-toenails/
