no I just thought that if le piaf is not to be a restaurant( steak house) then a more upmarket all encompassing farbic/upholstery shop would be good. What about one of those south american style steak/rib houses. wouldn't that be great?Huge juicy sirloins and rump and rib eye - may be a bit of surf and turf?? and a bottle or red and some chips................

Gaucho - I'd be amazed, but it would be great. Cheap chain more likely I'm afraid, which is a pity for the Village as it need a good restaurant.

Chez Gerard is obviously much better than cafe rouge but i suspect its too close nonetheless.

Its like ED hoping for Waitrose and getting Coop. I'm sure someone msut know what it is going to be though.

It was a "London Steak House" not "Dulwich Steak House" - part of a small city-wide chain before beef prices went through the roof and red meat got a bad name. Various cuts of steak served with frozen chips and frozen veg and expensive rubbish wine. Quite popular though as then, as now, the good burghers of the Village were all tightrwads where paying for decent scran were concerned. So it will be another chain.

Sean... SimonM is talking about the London Steak House which was situated where Cafe Rouge is now., La Piaf on the other hand was previously another crappy restaurant whose name I can't remember but I do remember before that it was an off licence and I was a regular customer.

    • Hello! We are relocating abroad and so will be withdrawing our two children (ages 4 and 6) from St Dunstan’s College (Catford). If any family is considering enrolling children of a similar age, now would be an excellent opportunity—we’re required to pay full‑term fees unless the places are taken. Please get in touch if you’re interested or know someone who might be. Thank you!

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
