FM Mangal- really great

FM Mangal was on my list for a while and finally got to try it a few months back..

Totally underwhelmed.. Did not like the complinentary cold garlic onions.. Bread was really salty..

Lamb Kofte was gritty and gristly.. and a small piece of Turkish Delight took out a filling.. ?52.00 to fix.

I went on a Sunday afternoon and was the only diner in there. apart from the manager and friends?? having

a meeting with lots of shouting arguing. On my return to E.D. Hisar was rammed..

Will not be going back..

It's not just you: it's also so smokey that at the wrong table your eyes will water and you'll leave smelling like a bonfire. So maybe you go for take-away: they do a good range (I love any menu that includes Iskender kebab) but I agree the food has become greasier and grislier in the last few years. The wait time is longer than they expect it will be and they have forgotten my phone order more than once.

It's a shame. The complimentary tea and Turkish delight while you wait used to be a nice touch. (Maybe not if you lose a filling!) They stopped offering me the free tea after I went in with a friend who had a fit of the clumsies and broke the cup!

Meanwhile round the corner at the Vineyard, really excellent Cypriot food and good value too. I highly recommend.

The Art Deli 16 Coldharbour Lane, has not long been open and really deserves a try. Small and friendly with really great food and craft beer. The breakfast menu is fantastic. If you fancy stepping out of your comfort zone then come along to the Art Club for grown ups there on the last weds each month.

And nobody has mentioned Van Hing, is it because it looks like a crappy cafe ? Try the Noodle soup and swoon !

    • Hi - a friend sent me this link…   The car is neither abandoned nor stolen! (Nor ever has been, so not sure why that has been suggested). It is mine, I collected it from service (and MOT as identified by some on here) on Friday, driving home it had a bit of a hissy fit and broke down! AA attended on Friday, could not recover it until this morning. Spoken to the nice people inside Westminster carpet on Friday who couldn’t have been kinder, I moved the car back from the doors of the property as best I could without blocking more parking spaces. Recovery should be here imminently. Apologies for any inconvenience.
    • That's very odd if they won't answer. Do they just say "no, we won't tell you that"? I can understand they wouldn't want you to get the bread direct from their source instead of from them, but why not just say that? If they baked it themselves, I imagine they would be only too happy to let people know.
    • Possibly one of the other local garage owners may know? Also, it's possible if the owners and staff are still in the area that they might see your post. They didn't post on here themselves (to the best of my knowledge) but they must have known that I did, as a couple of times the lady who worked in reception phoned me to ask me if I could  post in the "Lost" section when something dropped in Hansler Road had been handed in to them. Unfortunately I only have their office landline  number, which presumably disappeared when they closed. Good luck! Hopefully your service manual may turn up in an unexpected place.
    • Well, that was my initial thought too, but having re-read the thread, it seems that the car was left outside Westminster Carpets. Maybe even middle-aged Lotharios can't ignore the low, low prices in their 'Remnants, Offcuts & Roll-End Sale'.   Do you know anyone with a second generation Fiat Punto (1999-2010)? Because 5 to 1, the key will fit.  I'm out of the country, watching the cricket, just now but if you can get it down to the Catford/Sydenham borders in the next couple of hours, I've got a mate who can 'look after' it. It'll be at Tilbury docks by 6 o'clock. Have you ever driven a car with an F1 style, flappy paddle gearbox before?
