My daughter is almost five and I realise that she hasn't got any proper chores. Has anyone got any original suggestions for regular chores? I'm less interested in the help factor, more interested in something that won't create more work and that we can keep going easily. There's tidying room (daily struggle), water plants (please, no! they will die), take crockery to the sink. Other ideas? We don't have pets and no proper garden.

Setting the table for meals with cutlery. Wiping down table with damp cloth, putting recycled items in the appropriate bin/bag/whatever. Washing up (standing on chair or stool washing up unbreakable items)

Helping to make sandwiches i.e. buttering bread.

One of my daughters loved using the hoover ( she soon grew out of this when became a teenager)

Helping to make shopping lists and getting the things in the shops.

Sorting out the washing into colours/ whites (I did end up with piles all over my floor of colour groups - really sweet!)

Tasks such as 'tidy your room' are too difficult - it needs to be; 'put the books on the shelf, put the socks in the sock drawer' and other specific things - needs to be manageable and clear to understand

    • Another recommendation for Niko. Great communication, top guy, and super reliable and skilled - all at a fair price. Takes a lot of care in what he does and talks you through everything.
    • Some foxes are very tame. The foxes that live near the electricity sub-station thing on the corner of Calton and Woodwarde will happily walk up to you/passed you. They are some of the best looking foxes around so clearly being well-fed - glorious coats and bushy tails but interested in humans and keen to engage/be fed rather than being scared.
