Baby slings/carriers that are good for breastfeeding

I am making a list of stuff I need before baby no2 arrives end of October and was wondering if anyone can recommend a sling or carrier that would allow me to breastfeed while being hands free. I never had one the first time around except for a BBjorn carrier. I am not sure I would be good with ones that need complicated wrap arounds...

Ring sling or pouch but they are not really recommended for newborns...So I am affraid it will have to be stretchy wrap arounds to start with...

Might be worth looking at the "close" sling (think it's on amazon and john lewis). It's a stretchy/ring sling suitable from birth/5lbs - can't say how good it is as I've another 5wks before bubs arrives, but it seems v easy to use and there is a br/feeding position (don't know for sure if it's hands free though or if I'd want to be hands free early on!).

Kari Me was good and v discrete - I walked from Pimlico to Vauxhall one day with O merrily attached and no one batted an eye. Later on Ergo gets my vote every time, not so much for feeding (although it is possible) but for simply making the heaviest baby seem light and easy to carry.

i've fed in an ergo, although it is a little awkward. i love the carrier on the whole though, and definitely was amazing in the early days with the infant insert to help baby get off to sleep!

My friend runs the sling meets locally and I'd highly recommend attending one to discuss the options. (Or join the forum to ask for advice)... generally the first sling is a stretchy fabric one like the Hugabub (I loved mine and fed in it till my son was 4 months. My friend has also used it and loved it). From then on I used a SleepyNico till he was a year old. I was also able to feed him in this. HTH. x

I had the Kari-Me the first time, but I didn't love it because I found it annoying to tie (there were always long pieces of fabric dangling in puddles when I was trying to tie on the go!) and also my son liked to come in and out and I found I had to re-tie every time.

For the next baby, I have got one called a K'Tan (sp?). It is the same stretchy fabric as a Kari-Me or Hugabub, but it is in two ready-made loops so you don't have so much fabric and tying to contend with. Can't comment on how it will work as I haven't used it yet, but it seems like quite a good design.

I also have the Coorie Fleece pouch sling, which is great for throwing on in a hurry and should work well for feeding. May not be the best choice for long times carrying though, because it is just the one shoulder design.

Agree that your best bet is to go to a Sling Meet and try a few different ones.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that babies under 4 months old not be carried in pouch slings, due to a risk of suffocation.

Deffo worth going to a sling meet to get some advice and have a look at different sling types!!
